Good idea, Gil. Just don't forget to practice against those other drivers.

The scism between the two camps already exists and I doubt if it will ever go away. As I've written several times already, this was just a possible solution to the ongoing 'tribalism' that already exists; in retrospect, I agree that segragation may not be the answer.

It would be nice if there wasn't so much antagonism between the two groups, but then it would be nice if money grew on trees and ice cream was good for you.

So is the solution to discourage drifters from participating in activities here? Or to punish racers who 'dis' the drifters who have 'invaded' a racers forum?

Human nature being what it is, I don't see this problem fixing itself.

Quote from Sternendaal :You managed to spell my nick correctly in 1 try

Have no idea what your talking about tho

Apples and Oranges is an American (?) phrase that means unrelated topics

I assume since you like the GTR class, you are a racer as opposed to a drifter (unless you like both).

I am offering a solution to the racer/drifter animosity that so easily flares up on this forum. It's not just to provide a sub-forum for a special group of people because they are special, but to hopefully reduce some of the tensions between two apparently diametrically opposed groups.

Apples = racers (and racers who may or may not want their own class subforums)

Oranges = drifters, with a subforum separate from the racers

Cheers

Quote from Jakg :LFSTorque.net not good enough now?

Is LFSTorque.net an available link on the front page or readily available without asking? No...

Go back and read my initial post. I'm offering a solution for this site, to deal with the issues that seem to constantly be a source of irritation for both camps.

And, that solution was primarily directed to the ones with the keys to this place.

Thanks for playing.

So in this Racing community, there are quite a few Drift fans...this is not uncommon in many motorsports related site.

There seems to be a lot of acrimony between the two groups, with fault found on both sides.

How about a Drifting in LFS subforum?

The Drifters would have a place of their own, where they would have to suffer the abuse of "RICEBOYZ" shouters, and the Racers wouldn't feel compelled to moan and whine about "another drift thread"

Personally, I'm a racer. I'm not interested in drifting either as a participant or spectator. To each, their own, I say.

But all the whining and tension that exists between the two groups has gotten...tedious. And boring.

Drifting in LFS subforum. Think about it, please (directed at Devs/Admins/Mods)

I just don't understand why people can't be direct in their statements instead of resorting to homophobic euphamisms to indicate their scorn.

I just don't understand the whining that goes on sometimes.

Oh jeeze...another drift thread.

Oh crap...another "How much?" thread

OH NOES!!...another More Tracks thread.

Do you have a TV set? If you see a show you don't like do you watch it? No! You change the channel.

See a thread you don't like? Don't click into it!

This isn't rocket science, folks.

You should really carefully consider your remarks when addressing people you disagree with, especially when you are new to a community. Name calling is juvenile and unnecessary.

Indeed. Forum Moderators are basically glorified Janitors (no offense to the LFS Mods; BTDT), cleaning up the vomit and trash strewn about by noobs, trolls, and members...

Quote from Gimpster :
My personal take on this is that the blue flag is nothing more then an indication to a driver that lapping traffic is approaching, drive in a predicible manner and leave room. With that definition the lapping driver then is responcible to safely passing the laped car when safe to do so. Now under a system like this I would define the rule that if the laped driver blocks or un-nessasarily delays the lapping driver then they should recieve a black flag resulting on a drive through penalty.

This is how it should be. Why drivers who are overtaking a lapped driver thinks that a blue flag means they have complete right of way over anything else is an indication to me how self absorbed some people are.

Hey, if you're fast enough to be lapping folks, good for you. Don't think it gives you the right-of-way to the point that overtaken drivers have to bail off track for you.

And for those of you that shout BLUE FLAG! BLUE FLAG! and blow your horn maniacally, let me suggest to you where you can stuff that blue flag, wrapped around that horn.

Quote from SamH :...occasionally people will drive cars they really can't control because of damage. This can be unsporting if, while they're hobbling back to the pits, they're causing a hazard to other cars on the track. I don't think there's a hard and fast rule here, but consideration for and responsibility towards other cars must always be a primary factor in deciding whether or not to make the drive back to the pits.

Oh absolutely! One has to take into account the effects of trying to get back to the pits without interfering with the race. In those cases, exit to spectator is warrented.

I took XCNuse's advice and have been doing some racing on STCC1a. Generally, seems to be a little less mayhem, but today a few things stuck out:

1) If you wreck, but are still mobile, why not soldier on back to the pits, get repaired, and rejoin instead of exiting to the pits. When you exit to the Pits, your lap count resets and you essentially become a driving spectator. Very annoying. Not to mention it rather degrades the point potential for the drivers who continue. The only time I ever exit out is when I've rolled onto the roof, then I exit to spectator and wait for the next race.

2) If you do exit to pit and then go back onto the track, why are you pressuring a driver who is still in the running? Rude, rude behavior.

3) The ubiquitous horn. You know, you could probably drive better and gain a bit more respect from other drivers if you stuck that thing where the sun don't shine.

4) "Hollering" Blue Flag! Let me pass! For one, I thought general chat during a race was prohibited, not to mention how unsporting it is. For another thing, as long as the overtaken driver is not intentionally blocking you, it's your responsibility to pass the slower car, cleanly.

There were several very gentlemen-like racers that I had the pleasure of racing against this afternoon. It's too bad the good times have to be spoiled by a few who seem to have no class.

BTW, Becky, I was so mad I exited out and forgot to save replays, so we'll chalk another session up to experience. Overall, I am enjoying my time on the STCC servers...just needed to rant a little.

Personally, I'd rather see black flags for people that:

A) Blow their freakin' horns because they want to get by

Hey Homer! It's up to you to get around, and you better be clean about it!

B) Shout "BLUE FLAG! BLUE FLAG!", like it's some kind of incantation that will magically make a runoff lane for a driver being overtaken.

Whatever happened to skill on the track instead of asstardness?

Welcome Jay/deepscuba. Awesome first post. You obviously aren't a noob to car/racing forums.

As said by others, check out the League and Team action here. There are some superb drivers who are also a decent group of folks to race with.

See you on track!
