I'm definitely in this camp. I must confess I have not loaded up LFS for a long time but I got my S3 licence as soon as I noticed it was available to support the developers. I got much more value out of this sim than the cost to me. Many fond memories, the kind of which I have not been able to adequately replace with any sim since, even though there are sims at this moment that occupy my spare time that LFS used to. It is always on my harddrive although not often up to date, but I do now and then check in here to see what's going on :-)
Really looking forward to seeing ongoing work coming to fruition.
Edit: Just an FYI I am here because of the reddit post and gave it an immediate updoot for visibility.
Gave Automobilista a chance and a decent amount of hours. Uninstalled all of my other sims apart from rFactor 2 and Dirt Rally for those that will accept it as a sim (I know plenty won't). AMS has ruined others for me, unfortunately. It feels fantastic to drive!
Oooh a protest. Yes, absolutely genius. Vote for an absolute moron as a protest. It'll be a real win for the people if he becomes president. Definitely. You really think Trump will change the current system in the US? It works in his favour. Sanders is far more likely to change the system. To seriously suggest Trump will want to change things and restore 'democracy' to the US, is so naive, it's loopy.
From what I've seen the people aren't bright enough to realise who is more likely to change the system if they get behind them. People think that because Trump owns a lot of assets and runs businesses (despite being in mountains of debt himself), the economy will be in safer hands. This is incredibly stupid. A country's economy is completely different to running a business or a household budget.
I totally agree. The systems aren't exactly the same, but so similar it makes little difference and has the same effect, just at a slower pace. It still has the same detrimental effect on the majority of us.
This is exactly the point I was trying to make though. The one candidate named in the post I was replying to, that will not prioritise the interests of the bankers, the banks, the major global corporations depleting common resources at an unsustainable level and the elite that are 'too big to fail', is made out to be unelectable because he will increase national debt.
Too many people are easily brainwashed by sound bites when they don't actually understand how things work to any meaningful degree. This is being proven by the backing Trump is getting and also by the working class in this country that voted Conservative buying into the hugely biased right wing media that they're more 'fiscally responsible' than Labour, simply because they were unfortunate enough to be governing through the global financial crisis. They actually managed to convince a large enough percentage of this country that the Labour government caused the global financial crisis. It's scary how people just believe it and then when they're ask to justify why they think this, they regurgitate the same sound bites you read from these biased sources or from misleading politicians who want power. So many people blindly accept what they read when it's either misleading or simply not true.
To be honest, the US economic system in which you create cash through your federal reserve is so retarded that anyone in power would increase your national debt, so really there isn't any point naming a certain individual. Your system is set up to be that way.
It's totally unsustainable and it really doesn't make any sense. There are 3rd world countries that are literally in a fraction of the debt that you're in, yet they are still massively underdeveloped. What a strange world we live in.
No worries buddy, it was just some playing around I did whilst trying out Rockingham for the first time. I remember back when I was active I had a go playing around with the exhaust pulse wav file but it sounded awful. It's still very tricky to create a wav file that works without sounding like your speakers are going to explode or too weak. It can only be 0.090 seconds in mono channel with a sample rate of 44100Hz. I guess this is what we have to work with, shame it's not much and so difficult to make right.
Another thing that irks me that didn't bother me so much back then is that the tyre squeal doesn't change depending on tyre type. I remember making some nice high pitched tyre squeal sounds that were great with a car on street tyres drifting and whatnot, but racing on slicks it sounded ridiculous.
I made another BF1 sound with a different edited exhaust pulse file to reduce clipping and I created a couple of sounds for the FZR with 2 different new exhaust pulse file and a new gear whine sound that doesn't loop like the default. One is louder than the other but the louder may clip when driving near walls, but not very badly and isn't really noticeable unless you have the sound editor running at the time.
I've attached the BF1 sound with the new exhaust pulse for people to try. If I remember correctly I didn't play with any of the tone or volume sliders at all, the only change is the tiny sound clip that represents 1 explosion in the engine.
To tell you the truth I am surprised so many people like the sounds made in this thread. They might improve slightly on the default sounds to some, but at the end of the day it is the same, weak and outdated system. I hope some day the devs either take the issue of sounds seriously or bust everything wide open to modders when they're finally finished so that a new sound system might be implemented by coders in their spare time. Truthfully I would pay for realistic, immersive sounds. It really makes a huge difference for me and I'm sure many others.
Well I have been back playing a bit this evening on a fresh download of LFS. Couldn't help but immediately start creating and editing sound files to see how they turn out in LFS sound editor. It's really hard to create wav files that don't noticeably loop. The default gear whine sound in the game noticeably loops and it REALLY bugs me. More than it should. I spent hours just making a wav file that doesn't loop. It sounds a lot better now but I still wish LFS gave us more realistic sounds. It's too limited.
I've been playing around with exhaust pulse sounds clips too. This is quite tricky, it needs to be a sound clip no longer than 0.09 seconds that is just the right volume and pitch. I've had a go at it and some cars sound better with my own exhaust pulse, others sound better with the default. The BF1 sounds better with the new exhaust pulse without even tweaking any of the tone and volume sliders, which is cool. From what I understand LFS creates the car engine sound by using that tiny 0.09 second sound clip as if it was an explosion from the engine, so that tiny clip is played very quickly over and over, like in a real car your little explosions force the pistons down and causes the noise the car. Very clever, but not possible to create realistic and immersive sounds with it unfortunately. I wish the dev team implemented a better system and got themselves a dedicated sound guy. Sounds are so important. LFS feels amazing but with such unrealistic sounds I feel kind of distracted sometimes from how amazing it feels.
Just upgraded to s3. I am a little tight for money but pay day is getting closer and for all the good times you 3 (ScaViEr) have given me in the past, you deserve at the very least the extra 12 GBP. Other sims may look more up to date and sound(!) much more immersive, but none have given me the huge amount of hours of enjoyment that yours has. From a selfish point of view I hope we do get some fantastic new content but in all honesty, 36 quid total is a bargain for the hours of fun put into this title compared to the cost of others out there. /me looks disapprovingly towards iRenting
All the best in your trial and errors in coding and content creating, and the frequent headaches I'm sure they must cause.
A bit late here now that most of the talk is to do with bugs and fixes, but it's great to see LFS is still alive and kicking. So many fun filled hours spent in this game, it would be great to see some proper progress and re-gain the popularity it once had in the sim world.
Keep grinding away Scawen, you'll definitely have my money with any future paid content that gets released
