Not the best in the world but since i'm in uni halls I can't thump sound out that loud anyway as most of us of doing our final year! Not a bad buy as they were about £28 when I got them. Can at least listen to music/tv at near cd quality from my laptop now!
The only real flaw is that the plug is the size of a brick. You could start swinging it for home defense! It pretty much covers 2 sockets on a multi socket which is enough to stop you putting in another normal uk sized plug next to it at last. Wall sockets are ok though.
Top one is Win XP with Ubuntu Human theme and the quick launch put to the top of the screen.
2nd is Kubuntu with Silicon theme with some standard desktop widgets and the Ubuntu Human icon theme.
I've not bothered posting win 7 as that's just standard 7 & my Ubuntu install is standard looking Ubuntu Human.
I think Kubuntu is almost on par with 7 on the looks department. Shame the software/hardware support is not totally up there. Case in point, my Java program needs win to run. Sucks. Might try and get it to work with Linux when i've handed it in. But i'm not going get points for making it run cross platform from my tutors though!
A huge screen is pointless for gaming without the rest being good else u'll simply have a big fuzzy image or you will hav to run the games at lower settings. Just a thought.
Thought i'd put some pics of mine up since I did the spec before. It's not as pretty as most peoples.
It's looking a bit delapedated.
I need to replace that crappy red sata cable too as every time I put the side on it gets nocked out as it has no clip on it.
It's missing the front panel, side panel and side rails that run along the top of the case as some plastic bit broke last time I got it out the car and it nearly became a casualty on the street.
It works fairly well though, that's the main thing. Just clear the fans and heat sink now and again.
recent addition is a 500gb hard drive to replace the 150gb that was stading up in the case.
Switched back to ubuntu as my main os on the pc, laptop runs the windows 7.
That is about how old mine is. I think the original spec was 512mb ram, geforce 7200(i think), 160gb hard disk, standard dvd burner.
I think the only option if you really want to play lfs is to throw some money at your machine.
I have put together my suggestions in a list. Pure speculation and intended as a guide not a 'you must do' Don't blame me if it makes no difference. But these types of things have allways worked for me in the past.
I would:
1) Make sure you have the latest graphics card drivers installed. :google:
2) First make sure your ram that is installed is working (if its got 2x512mb then take one out and test the difference. It does break sometimes. I've had it break and not notice, appart from some random reboots) If you have a 1gb stick then go to part 3.
3) Add 1gb ram
4) If the ram makes a difference then good! It should have made your whole machine generally a bit faster and will enable you to have more stuff open. Example. I had a rubbish graphics card and loaded battlefield 2 with 1gb ram and it ran like crap, stuttery, low fps. Added 1gb ram an suddenly smooth on low settings.
5) Assuming that did something then you can then think about upgrading your graphics card. Something average should do. I would not spend a massive amount.
6) If it's still rubbish after all this then it is probably going to be your cpu, this is an expensive upgrade(I think) and hardley worth it unless you have money to throw at your machine.
7) Failing all that I would save up for a new pc or laptop as this may work out the best economically. Lfs will still be here in 3 years.
The only thing I thought is that it lookes like a nuke has gone off in the background and the while light has engulfed behind the trees and is coming to destroy the race track.
Appart from that it's fairly ok. Better than what I could do anyway
I quite enjoy the racing withthe custom layouts, so it's a bit more extreme version of touring cars.
I esp love the ufr vs xfr, jumps are ok but the bl1 track I used to win that all the time with a jump set
A lot of the fun ppl who do destruction derby were banned from cad for silly things
but cad is a bit spaz. Rather the ppl who play it sometimes still 'dont get it'. I spun this dude near the start and sure enough 'ban kingston he's a crasher' lol
EDIT: Tried this layout quicksilver and it's pretty fun. I think 1 lap on this would be enough and I was not expecting the sharp stop at the end of the straight even after i drove it once in a slow car which was cool, can imagine lots of people crashing there and the bit where it doubles back on its self was cool. Took about 3 min in the rac and over 4 min in the xfg as it practically stops in the sand parts.
it's ok. Why is it funny colours? I agree with the music, fast paced so and clips/action that is relativley slow in comparison. Driving was nice though.
That's about the only thing that truly sucks in lfs is the crash physics. Fine, I know we are not going to get body panels being ripped off but fixing the way the cars ping off each other and when you hit a barrier it's a pain, but it's been asked a million times so... hmpf.
Cheers for the comments though
I think I underestimated how much people hate the text in a vid. It's never realy clicked as an issue to me when making a vid. But next time I try one i'll try and iron that out.
Wish I had a better pc too but I brought a laptop instead :P. max I can record in is 800x600 with widescreen effect then windows media player scews it down to a different rez and then it ends up widescreen on yt. Odd.
Think i'd been on Forgotten Hope 2 a bit much when choosing that backing music.
Assuming global warming, a mass virus or freak of mother nature does not kill uss in the next 10 years then:
1)What do you think Technology will be like in 10 years (any tech you want to speculate on or talk about how you think it might change our lives)
I saw for example on bbc click that they have been working on HD tv for about 25 years.
I think we will be connected to the web even more than we are now, potentially computing might go the way of google crome such as that you have say your main pc and then a small, cheap, portable, lightweight computer that is connected to the internet all the time
I also think we may have a star wars type projection system where we do away with screens alltogether for doing our msn and such while gaming may potentially become fully 3d and fully immersive - maybe not in 10 years.
2)Do we really need all this technology (the good and bad?)
I've played games like world of warcraft that taken into context are essentially online communitys where people go to create a virtual self and then pretend to be something while socially interacting with the other players, perhaps they are not good communicators in the 'real world' but they can socialise with ease in this virtual space, whether killing them or doing quests together. I think (partially based on bbc click) that these things will become more populair. It's still social interaction yet it's hardley in my veiw the most healthy of things (a reason why I stopped playing), potentially living your life as Plextor! Mighty king of azaroth! is perhaps not as healthy as living your life as Bob! the dentist! and socially interacting with physical people. Sure the person behind plextor king of azaroth is still real and your potentially meeting someone from thousands of miles away, there was even 6 members of the guild I was in who met up in real life as they found out they were fairly close which is great!
Humans are social beings, I think computers are in some ways bad. I'll leave it as that, you could write an essay on this topic.
However I've also used the net to meet people with the same interests as me. When I had a car I joined a ford owners club and in the end only went to one of the meetings as I ended up selling the car when I went back to uni, but there were 20 of uss, we went go carting, showed off our crappy cars and had a good laugh.
Perhaps we will get an xmas pack with christmas lights, tinsel, snow on the buildings around the track and some xmas trees in the garage with a secret santa that randomly spawns around the track.
They could have randomly spawning black santa, white santa, asian santa, midget santa, bin laden santa. Might be fun
The game looked a bit iffy, not that bad but I think it simply looks like lfs vs being a credible lfs replacement.
And the guy with the antivirus. Some trojans are not harmful. I used to play this crappy game once called ummm... oh.. lineage 2 and that always came up as a trojan but in actuality it was not. Conicidentally that game also sucked. It's probably just telling you the game is rubbish.
I'm guessing it's either cpu speed or the amount of ram in your pc or you need to make sure you have got rid of the old gfx card drivers and have the newest up to date ones.
I was having quite short attention span. Perhaps as it's nearly 3:00am and I should be asleep like a normal person but whatever. It gives a rough idea/something to work from.
Using playstation 2 controller.
Ky3r I think - i'm not that good at this track but it has been on a few times... I seem to sometimes fair better on hot tires so also some tips on normal tires, better line, go faster, concentrate more, etc?
Using a set off the forum called. drifty-drift, oh right. i'll attatch that too save you looking for it
I also find i often do well in say an autocross track of a track the first lap then then enxt laps for say 5 or 6 I try to emulate the first and end up over doing it like I dunno going to fast into a corner that i've done right a hundred times before or turning too early or something.
Going to sleep now. V tired
From my veiw:
I need to concentrate more
Be smoother/less jerky. But could be because i'm really tired.
Know the track or follow racing line.
spin less
Other tips welcome
two replay files. total of 8 laps. (the 2nd spr is the 4th/5th lap)
