I chose my name Platinum Pete years ago when i first tried online gaming.

Basically it was when i though online gaming was a bit sad (my girlfreind likes to remind me it still is) I logged onto gamespy arcade and realised that there were a few other pete's around. i put my name into a name generator and i thought i would choose the most pathetic sounding name.

I did and its stuck!!

I still think it sounds very corny but i kind of like feeling corny now.

and thats the end of my highly emotional name story

I believe the new forcefeedback effects for rfactor are supplied on a separate plug-in. It only works on the cars that have been designed around it though.

OK I'll tell you what i can about the setting at the moment.

I installed the drivers that came with the wheel but dont use the profiler.

I have settings in windows set to 100% overall effects. 0% for spring and damper and center spring turned off. the rotation is set to 270 for comparison with the momo.

nothing has been changed in LFS except for mappings but it just doesnt feel right somehow.

Dont get me wrong the wheel is good- it feels heaps better in fractor- it just doesnt seem to be to my liking in LFS- perhaps i just need to get used to the new feel??
G25 just doesnt feel good in LFS

As title says-I have tried many settings with the wheel but it just isnt as good as momo was in terms of direct feel on ffb. i think its because of the non existant feel on the deadzone area due to two motors etc etc blah blah technical noncence. fact is if i pay more for a wheel i expect it to be at least as good. and i dont think it is- let me know if your experiences are different and share your ideas on how to make mine better

tarrah

Possibly not the most exciting but it was a total feel good moment: racing in fox at s01 and i was closely following the leading pair. on lap 3 i get close to the back of them before the straight and find a tow. p2 also finds a tow and moves to the side to overtake leaving just enough of a gap through the middle for my car. I had a quick thought that it would be pretty risky but went slungshot inbetween then anyway and came out in the lead at the end of the straight we were 3 abrest for the next 3 corners which was a bit dicey as you can see.

It was one of those races where you just knew that you could trust the the people you were racing with to the nearest inch and that always gives me a warm glow- its a kind of psycological connection but some how linked by the internet- amazing.

I personally dont think that the drivers will cause crashes like you described.

you still havent told us what your gpu temps are at load or at idle, that would be a start. I personally experieced artifacts and crashes at anything over 90c, check the temps if you want help

Green dots..... I'd RMA it if it keeps happening. sounds like the card is faulty and believe me it is quite likely to be the case, probably overheating. (i have had 3 6600gts and all have been faulty in some way.) i now have a 6800gs and its fine.

what is the cards idle temp? have you tried the card with any other games yet?

Quote from tristancliffe :watch some failed racing driver do two miserable burnouts in a Sauber F1 car (Andy Priloux?)

Didnt see the original thread and dont want to go off topic but.... Do you even knows who that is?- think World Touring Car champion- hardly failed racing driver.

Quote from BWX232 :I play both... I like both..

I actually spend enough time with rF and LFS BOTH to tweak them so they are both fun..

People that just play LFS or rF with default settings for an hour and decide that either sucks are the people missing out.

Both games can be very fun, both have very strong points and both have some very weak points.. Anyone who says otherwise is closed minded or just plain ignorant.

I agree with you entirely

Quote from Viper93 :Give NK time, it will have the same problem of wreckers and bad drivers as LFS. LFS is alot older than NK in terms sim age and I think that has alot to do it. You get into the right server and you will have full grids of good players, well almost full. There is also league races that do not have these problems. I do agree though that more people could be courtious, maybe there could be training missions to help in this, haha like people that are crashers use the training missions anyways

I was talking about rfactor which has been around for a while- but i agree with you anyway. I have been playing LFS religously since S1 was released and never experienced problems with lack of talent/ awareness/ etiquette (from other racers). like seems to be the problem now, but as you say im sure this is a product of growing popularity.

Maybe i should join a league, now that i have some more spare time (completed uni ). that'll really make the gf laugh. she already thinks its funny how long i sit at my wheel by my PC. imagine how she'll react when i tell her that i have to be home and at my wheel at a specific time!!

Quote from tristancliffe :Partly helped by the fac there is rarely more than 10 people on public servers in the entire rFactor world.

maybe so but thats 10 people at 100% courtious against 100s of people with 50% courtious.

don't get me wrong i love LFS and am happy with the racing if there are good courtious drivers on the public servers. the point is this situation is rarely happening for me anymore and its getting very frustrating to the point where i'm starting to look else where for my racing fix.

Lately i've started to care less which is the best sim and more for where i can have the best racing, and i have to say from what i've seen on public servers at the moment rfactor wins this hands down. far too many noobs who dont give regard to racing rules on LFS at the mo

I like the idea- it would certainly give people an incentive to finish long races and keep their game up. i do think that it would have to be organised heavily though

Quote from Pain-less :rFactor runs sweet on my machine. I didn't have to re-configure anything, and what your talking about above is "Frames Rendered Ahead" which by default Nvidia sets to 3 but can cause stutters in some applications, so Nvidia advises setting this to 2 or even 0. This can be set by installing and running Coolbits, which is a little app that lets you OC your Nvidia card. As for rFactor, it took me away from LFS. I got tired of low speed corner spinning that LFS was known for. Although I will say this, after patch U, I have NOT experienced it and have been running LFS a little more, but I'm stuck on the McLarens in rFactor.

you are more accurate than i was in explaining that, thats for sure.

the point i was trying to make was that before i did the frame renders ahead thingy i had some serious control lag and general unresponsiveness with Rfactor. the change made it far more controllable and it now feels infinitely better. dont know why this is but its fact in my case

Quote from rabidmaddog :Precisely. So should I really tweak my BIOS and other settings to possibly make Rfactor happy and likely screw up the flawless performance of 30 of my other games and applications? I don't think so. As I said, I think Rfactor needs more testing and more work. I am not saying it won't work on a different machine. I hope it does work well for others. It simply was a nightmare for me and many others.

if you did want to try it again the way that i sorted out the "goofy" steering was to reduce the graphics draw ahead to 0 (using riva tuner or equivelant). i think because controller inputs relate directly to the graphics engine or something odd like that!? this made the sim far more responsive for me and didnt adversely affect any other games as far as i know.

Just an FYI

I have had Rfactor since it came out and didnt play it that much- although when i did it was OK but not much more. some of the early mods were great tho- and all of the tracks you can get.

recently i downloaded the RWS megane trophy mod and i have to say that i am having as much fun with this as i did with LFS It just ticks all the right boxes. LFS is still better overall but that new mod just shows that the rfactor engine is capable of great things.

The major let down of Rfactor in my opinion is that on my system i had to seriously re-configure my hardware to get it to run properly and responsively. this includes graphics latency settings and appeture settings along with a few others. in my opinion customers shouldnt have to do this.

Quote from Tweaker :It didn't affect the FOX much (dunno why the pics show the FOX), but affected the GTR cars and the FO8 mostly. It was annoying, and yes, if it helps for close racing now, we should have A LOT better races.

I thought it affected the FOX more than any car!? especially when on the limit behind another car at say: exit of second chicane Blackwood.

then again ive probably driven the FOX more and closer than the other aero cars.

Quote from SamH :Ouch!

If there are problems on our servers, we do our best to sort them out. We're currently running 12 LFS servers in total on our dedi server in a Docklands datacentre, hosting both Demo and S2. At present, 40% of our bandwidth usage is given over to LFS. We don't have enough manpower to admin them all, all of the time.

We try to do as much as we can but at the moment, many of our team members are simply too busy with other commitments and so we're dedicated to simply keeping the servers online and running so everyone ELSE can get some good use out of them. We've got Aston, Kyoto and South City configurations. We even have a Beginners server for you to send your noobs to, in an attempt to give newcomers a step up. When we DO have to restart the servers, we don't even kill them. We go in and let people know BEFOREHAND, and we wait until races end, and THEN restart.

We love LFS, and we're completely in awe of the community. It's a community we're proud to be a part of and are committed to contributing to, so forgive me for taking issue with you slamming us. I think you're out of order.

Sorry it wasnt intended to be a comment on the owner(s) of the server just the people and type of incedent that i have endured within ONE of your servers.

for the record i dont mind if meople occasionally cause accidents, and im willing to smile and be pleasant if i get crashed out by accident (even by those im lapping) provided those people recognise their errors and are appologetic. Its just that for a while in your S0 classic FOX server the trend was quite different to this and hense i now avoid going there.

sorry if i have insulted you

Two threads about the same server. That place is a disaster area. Completely full of people that dont understand the rules of this game and seem to have no intention of learning.

I say your better off not being able to go there to be honest.

ive had this problem for ages- doesnt really bother me too much really because as soon as you apply full lock again it resets itself.

the one thing that is a problem however is when it actually goes off centre- if going round a fast bend the car will suddenly understeer, this has caused a few big wrecks for me. it feels like something is slipping inside the ffb mechanism. does momo have belts?

Quote from FPVaaron :Assumed most people dind't have a clutch pedal for their wheels, My mistake.

you'd have been better off saying right pedal for accel

Now get on your knees and beg for forgiveness!!

On a serious note I dont post here often but browse regually- alot of people seem to get flamed here for making reasonably small mistakes- its like a lot of you regular forum members are just waiting around until someone makes a booboo and then you jump on them wielding big heavy implements of hate. Seems that people get alot of pleasure out of humiliating others. Last time i was at primary school i think the teachers called this bullying
