I'm watching this thread here for a while and am sometimes amused what's going on here. I'm one of the old LFS veterans and therefor I notice how the game has changed over the years. In the beginning there was a real hype which I can't see the last years, that's simply no real new stuff has come out for a year or two, I just could read excuses.
The LFS veterans are leaving LFS frequently because nowadays we see that there a lots of other simulations that are developed more rapidly.
One question is: what do the customers expect from a one man show?
I just can read rumors here, because the most important question is not allowed here in the forum and will not be answered: How is the development going on?
We are customers and are not told what will be the future of this simulation. That is the reason, why so many old customers are leaving and propably will never come back. And that is a very sad story.
Let's talk about facts. We don't have big new content for more than a year. We are waiting for the "real" patch for too long and it's getting boring. The good thing is, that we don't have to pay for next patch, but I don't care too much about the money in that case.
For me, I have to say waiting has a limit and I will have some fun with other simulations (iRacing and so on). There is more development going on there. That doesn't mean I will stop playing LFS, but I don't know what will be in the future.
I have two questions about the new physics to Scawen:
1. Will the right height being mesured and shown in programs like F1PerfView?
2. Will we have ground effect, that means will the air streaming und the bottom of the car have effects on downforce especially on formula cars?
I see it a bit different. First of all I have to say that I like LFS. You have to see it from two point of views. First there is the development side. The devs want to make a simulation that is as close to reality as possible and that takes some time. From the beginning of LFS there is an advantage in netcode and stability compared to other race simulations. But nearly all other simulations do have more manpower to develop things in a shorter period of time. So other simulations will close the gap very rapidly. Maybe I'm wrong with that but future will tell us...
The other side are the users (or should i say customers?). People like us want to race with "heroes" and want to reach the same level. I hope that the development of LFS is fast enough to keep those (best) drivers away from getting bored with LFS. If those drivers (and even some of those) will quit playing LFS and race other simulations a lot of normal race drivers will follow them immediately. And here I see the biggest problem, because I think this has allready begun. Hopefully future will proove me wrong...
Here is something to think about: I couldn't see any post of Scawen in this forum for the last three weeks or so. So could it be he is still on holidays...
Bob, what are your plans about updating your VHPA?
Will there just be an update to let your program run with patch y or do you want a make a complete new one with data that are new since patch y?
Your VHPA did help me a lot, sadly it doesn't work with patch y anymore. And I know what effort you take in presenting us such a great tool. I hope you find some time in updating your program....
Thxs a lot in advance....
Bob, please keep us informed when you will update your nice program. In my opinion you did a fantastic job so far and I hope you will do so in future....
Thxs a lot for that.
Hey, Bob.
All other settings were set to neutral. That's what I discovererd myself, your tool showed me that all other settings were in the right direction. Just the antiroll settings and just on FOX seemed at least 20-25% wrong. I have a neutral balanced FOX when antiroll settings are a few percent higher on rears.
I think I can't be wrong that much (a bit is possible).
What I mentioned is just a thing to think of no criticism from me.
Hey Bob,
you did a great job in progaming such a powerful tool. I'm normally driving open wheel cars.
A question about the FOX. When I look in your suspension setting I can see that a Antiroll setting of 50 kN/m rear and ~30 kN/m front (100% rear / 60% front) would give me a neutral balanced car. When I use this on a track the car is oversteering quite a lot.
So is my car feeling so bad or are you sure you have the right data collected for that diagram. With FO8 everything seems to be fine and I'm now understanding much more about car setups. So again it's a brilliant job you did.
I allready tried to inspire people to collect all data that produce low frame rate or disconnections because of bad pingtimes.
I can read here in this forum at least 1 new thread each day about that problems. What a waste of time, when you have a similar problem and want to read all this. Or do it like everybody else and open a new thread....
We need a checklist to help other people so they can find a solution without reading hundreds of threads.
Again, what I want to have is simple. I want to have something like a checklist (or database or whatever you want to call it) to see where my problem could be. But we need the feedback of people who solved their problems.
Example: Some days ago I started LFS in hotlapping mode and I just had 10 fps (for me >70 fps is standard). I installed some software befor that and really didn't know where my fps were gone. In this community there will be others who had the same problem, the same hard- and software. They want to help others because they found the reason for their problem but don't see how they could do it without opening a new thread. And so nothing is done to help others. I found the reason for my fps drop, but again: I won't open a new thread for that and so I can help nobody else......
In my opinion Flo is right. If you have a problem with LFS you want to have an answer quick without searching all the threads for your problem. If everybody would do so it's a big waste of time. But all data must be collected somewhere so that you find it without loosing too much time. If you want to spend all your free time searching it's up to you. I want to have a solution as quick as possible. And if all guides to find a quick help is mentioned in the lfs wiki that be even better. But for now I don't find all answers there. The most important thing is that the users find a place where they can sent their solutions so that others don't have to do all that searching again and again.
An example: I have graphic driver xx, chipset driver xx and use software xx and so on and I don't know why my FPS in LFS are so low. There might be another user with exact the same combination who had the same problem. He changed driver xx to another version and the problem is gone for him. If he would know where to sent his solution he would do so to help others. And exactly all this data must be collected to help others.
English is not my mother language but I hope you understand what I want to say.
I think it would be a good idea to add a data bank where you can find solutions to solve problems with hardware or software that are known to produce conflicts with LFS. Many users seems to have certain problems with FPS loss or LFS crashing ( or whatelse) that have their origin in hardware incompatibilities (for example RAM failure) or driver related problems.
Most users find the solution to solve their problems but don't report it. So it would be a big help for others if they can have a checklist what to look for when they have a certain problem. That could also simplify Scawen's work developing the sim when he doesn't get all the mislead posts about incompatibilies where there are none.
It could be collected in a single thread, where users report their solutions.
I hope this series will be continued, though I was crashed in the first chicane and my race was done. As I asked before the race jumping into pits with shift+s was not allowed in the first lap. That's something that should be thought about when you are uninnocent involved in an accident. Race can be over in the first turn. Anyway, I've seen close fair racing here also with much slower racers taking part and that's the most important thing. I hope we will see again on track.....
I wish we would have something like the BTCC in Germany. Best racing what I have ever seen for long. A bit of colour exchange all the way but not too much fouls. In DTM or Formula 1 there is just an awful lot of money that is wasted, no wheel to wheel racing, nothing for the spectators.
In my opinion BTCC is best racing league of the world, really.....
That's why I like this game. Constant development all the time. Scawen reads what the users want and (if it is possible) implement it. I can't see this mentality in other games. Nice job....
Another thing is important. The jpg-file shouldn't be bigger than 400 KB.
Otherwise the skin will be compressed and the result is normally worse than you can do yourself. You can change compression in photoshop etc.
Thanks Scawen. That really works well for me now.
I just changed rear arb in 5 steps at once. arb_r.zip
That's why I like this game and the devs. If you have an improvement suggestion they read what their customers want and if it is possible they help immediately. That's not usual but seems to be a normal thing here.
That's why I will also preorder S3. This game maybe developed step by step but the users have big influence on how it is developed. I hope this will also be the fact in future.....
I normally drive GTRs. Is there a way of changing arb (I just want to change rear) without pressing F11?
As it is explained, this is only possible in single seater.
Does this work?
Save "/press f11, down, down, right, f11" as a text key and assign it to a button on the steering wheel.
Thanks Cue-Ball. Thats exactly what I want to have. Sorry if I didn't explain it that way. I want to change rear antiroll bars with the buttons on my steering wheel without having to press any keys on the keyboard.
That would be a big relief. To check that everything is accepted one time pressing F11 is ok. I don't have 4 buttons free to implement this, 2 buttons should be enough to do this.
Does anybody know if its possible to change antiroll bars (normally in multiplayer mode made by F11) with the switches on the steering wheel while driving?
I use a Momo Racing and in new test patches it could be possibly done. The configuration file "cfg.txt" is the one I expect.
But I don't know how.
