Just a thought, but could it just be that the setup that you are using has been designed to have a max break pressure so that you can't lock the wheels. Most of the sets I use are set this way yet if you increase the max break pressure in the setup options you will easily look wheels.

I have tried to run softth with only 2 monitors but it gives me an error saying it can't find the right screen (because it doesn't exist!) as a result it won't let me play LFS.

You mentioned above about disabling the right screen. How do you do this as I can't see anything in the CFG file.

Thanks.

Thanks for that both of you. I will try it out, didn't realise it would work like that.

Question - two 17" and one 19" widescreen

Hi all,

I was thinking of getting a third monitor for LFS. I currently have a 19" widescreen and a 17" 5:4 monitor so obviously I would go for another 17" 5:4. However, my 19" widescreen is slightly shorter (about 2 cm) than the 17" screens. How does SoftTH deal with this, will it cause there to be distortion between the screens because the middle one is shorter or can it adjust so that you just see a bit more on the side screens?

Also, will I have to set one vertical resolution across all three screens so if my centre screen is 1440 by 900 my side screens will also need to be 900 pixels high? Or will I be able to use the full res of all screens, i.e. 1280 x 1024 on the side screens.

Any help is appreciated.

Triple Monitor without SLI or TH2G

Hi All,

Does anyone know if there is a way to get a triple monitor set up without needing an SLI motherboard or needing to pay for Triple Head to Go.

My understanding was that SoftTH needs an SLI motherboard with 2 cards to attach the 3rd screen to? Is this correct and is there any way around this?

I dont have the cash to pay for TH2G but could stretch to another 17" LCD as I already have 1 17" and 1 19" widescreen but I dont have an SLI motherboard.

Thanks.

Does LFS support 3 controllers

Hello all,

I have just built an FF shifter and am now looking to buy the act labs RS 2006 pedal set (anyone got any experience of them?).

I just wanted to check that LFS can support three controllers all plugged in seperately and still register all of the axes etc. I will have MOMO racing wheel, act labs pedals and logitech force 3d joystick (shifter).

Could someone assure me that this will work! Also anyone know if this setup will work with rFactor too.

Thanks.

Thanks all for your help. The problem was when you select shifter LFS assumes you don't want to use auto clutch and wont let you change gear without it. As I don't have a clutch pedal (yet) it wouldnt let me change gear. I have turned auto clutch back on and the problem is solved.

Thanks.

H Shifter Help
dave81983

Hello All,

Hopefully someone can help me. I have just built and H-shifter (using a wingman ffb joystick) and am trying to make it work in LFS. I have it working in rFactor so all of the basics are there. I have selected the shifter option in LFS and have configured the keys that I want to use to register keystorkes, the problem is LFS is not recognising it. It is not a problem with the FF shifter programmer either because even when I press the keys on my keyboard LFS does not shift into the correct gear and just stays in neutral.

Can anyon help?

In short, I have checked the shifter option in controls and configured my keyboard keys, however when I press those LFS does not change gear?

Thanks.

Just Buy The Damn Game!!!
dave81983

Maybe I am missing something? Why don't you just buy the game rather than being a cheap skate and racing the demo?

It's only £24!!!! The Devs can choose to give you whatever part of the game they want as the demo, afterall they are giving it away for free!!!!

Is it me or is this the most ridiculous thread ever?

Im not understanding this then.

Im getting these ridiculous pings only in LFS - D/L rates are fine. All other online games work fine.

Anyone have any idea what this might be??
What wrong with the master server??

Hi,

I seem to be having problems with the master server at the moment. All the pings im recieving from servers are between 300-400 and I often wont connect to servers because I cant connect to the master server. I have a 2mb broadband connection and nothing running in the background. Pings on other games are fine.

Is anyone else experiencing this at the moment. I noticed it yesterday and its still there today.

Any Dev response on this, can we expect fairer shifting in the future?

Quote from Forbin :
If all you play is LFS then my guess is a 9700 Pro will do fine. If you play anything else, though, I'd reccommend something a bit more powerful, such as a 6600GT. It's not much more expensive and it's about twice as fast in anything except LFS, althouh I can guarantee you'll be able to run full AA and AF with the 6600GT with no drop in framerate. I'm not so sure about the 9700 Pro.

Erm, Ive had both the 6600gt and the 9700 pro and I can tell you that they are almost comparable for speed. Infact in LFS I got a slightly (3-4 frames) better fps with the 9700 pro. In all honesty if all you play is LFS then either will do. If you want to play anything thats gonna come out in the next year at a reasonable fps then forget it with either.

All the info on FF shifters and the FF shifter programme are here.

http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=214673

Any proper (i.e. not rumble) FF joystick will work. The one I use is the Logitech wingman force. Its cheap and the one that the programme is developed for. Although I dont think they make them anymore but there are always new ones on Ebay.

To the guy asking about the H-plate. It really is better with one otherwise you can go from 1 to 3 just by moving the stick right. Its not that much effort to build a box around your joystick and put an h plate on top.

Quote from RoCkBiGdAvE :Beings its on the drag strip, set the clutch to be your brake pedal? You can use the handbrake to stop once you cross the line!

I was only using the drag strip as an example, I dont do any drag racing, so using the brake as a clutch isnt really a solution.

Just wondering why we get those two "blips" on the clutch - I think that that is where the problem is.
To anyone who uses a shifter.

Hi,

I have recently started using a force feedback shifter for LFS. I think its great, but theres one thing that bothers me - Its slower. In the LX4 im a 10th of a second slower on the drag strip.

I can understand that when shifting I'm in neutral for a split second which will slow me down a bit. However the main loss in time appears to come from the auto clutch (I dont have 3 pedals). When I shift the clutch blips twice instead of just once when I use sequential shifting. Ive tried turning off "throttle blip on down shift" and it still blips twice. Is there any way to combat this problem.

Any chance of a dev answer too (I know im pushing my luck as you replied to my other thread ), perhaps you could explain what the auto clutch is doing? Perhaps with the massive increase in people using shifters (after ghostve's FF shifter) it may be worth looking into how to making the time penalty a bit less.

Thx for replies guys - especially Scawen (I love the interactivity of this dev team).

Anyway, just to clarify, by saying what my car could i wasnt suggesting that the UF1 should only be able to do 18 Mph in 1st I was just a bit suprised at the defference thats all.
dave81983

So are we saying that 43 MPh in 1st hear as the optimum for racing (it must be becaues flotches set uses it) is realistic or is not?
UF1 first gear 43 MPH- Unrealistic???
dave81983
S2 licensed
Hey,

I just noticed in the UF1 I can do 43 Mph before the shift indicator comes on, I use a flotch setup and its quick. This seems a bit unrealistic to me. In my peugeot 306 diesel I can get to about 18 Mph before I have to change to second.

Also it seems to me that in all of the cars (except the race ones) you can got too quick in first gear. What is going on here?

Does anyone agree with me?

Quote from S14 DRIFT :Surely you couldnt get GT4 working on a pc, the amount of memory and cpu required would be, well , fairly high

They did a feature on video game realism a while back where clarkson drove the honda NSX around laguna seca on gran turismo 4 and then in real life. However he was using a game pad and we all know that GT4 isnt exactly the "sim" of choice.

Someone should set him up with a DFP wheel, actlabs shifter and some VPP pedals and get him on LFS with a 3 screen setup using matrox's triple head2go, then we'd see what he really thought.

Would be cool to see.

This is still an issue. All the XFGTI servers arent running XRGT. Why not??

I just cant see the logic behind this. Theres loads of us that want to drive the XRGT but we dont get a chance.

Please update your servers.
