I've never advertised our server, so let's do it now.

Quote :It seems to me that if you want to drive anything except single seaters or low power FWD you aren't racing, your drifting or cruising.

We at Dead Men Racing drive one combo for one week and change it after having 1h race at thursday night. I don't know any drifters or cruisers after being an active member for about a year now. Check our latest combos: http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=248

Quote :The few racing servers I have found are full of ppl who cause a crash in the first 100 meters.

Rarely happens at our server.

Check our official introduction:

"Our Server

Our server is public and it's busiest between 8pm and 10pm GMT.
Just look for 'Dead Men Racing' on the server browser."

I use 22" 1680x1050 in the middle and two 15" 1024x768 on sides. It seems that SoftTH draws three 1680x1050 images and then just fits the original image to the lower resolution. It's not perfect, but I don't care, because the most important thing is to get a wider view to see the other racer in a tight situation.

I think you should use the original screen resolution for each monitor and just tell SoftTH which resolution each monitor has, and it will then fit images accordingly.

Excellent. Thanks a lot Scawen.

I tried it first with my work PC (XP, 3GB ram, E2180, 945G integrated graphics) which has worked ok with replays before. FPS was about 0.1.

But it works great with my gaming PC. Now watching 1H race replays is fun.

Is this the quality that can be expected with 8800GT and with the settings on the post #1? This is anyways what I get, and honestly I think it's terrible. Especially lamp and flag poles do look bad, they are flickering like there was no AA at all.

http://www.mediafire.com/?uea1loh09nz
It is a 17MB video file, about 30 seconds, 1680x1050.

I've had a HD3850 card, and there the quality was very smooth. ATI is good with adaptive and temporal AA. With this 8800GT I can get it nearly as good looking if I put heavy Supersampling AA, but then the performance is too bad. I've used drivers from 169.xx to 174.74.

Quote from Stang70Fastback :What program do you guys use that's free that would work to make a simple movie with title pages and fade effects. It really just needs to have the same basic features as Windows Movie Maker. I can't use WMM with the clips I create in FRAPS because for some reason it doesn't like them and freezes every 30 seconds when I try and work with it. Really, REALLY aggravating.

I've used WMM without any such problems with clips recorded with FRAPS.

You will need to do some troubleshooting, but unfortunately I don't have any good idea on where to start. Perhaps Process Explorer could give a hint on whats going on: http://technet.microsoft.com/e ... ysinternals/bb896653.aspx

Does it run if you start Windows in diagnostics mode, so that all extra services and applications are not started?

I sometimes think I might as well have not bothered paying for an S2 and just stuck with the demo

I had very little online laps just because of that, until I found a good team server. I went there pretty often, and was asked to join the team. Since that I've been learning lots of combos and have been able to concentrate on performing better. You need home (team) to feel like home.

Quote from pb32000 :So then, got rid of Vista the other day and have gone to XP SP3.

I've got the latest Nvidia drivers, old 8800GTS, and despite setting up a profile for LFS in the nvidia control panel, I can't seem to get AA working

Bearing in mind I've had AA working before on al my old cards and drivers, can't see why it's not working now?

Any suggestions?

As a workaround you could use SoftTH and force AA and AF with it. This does not mean that you would need to use 2 or 3 monitors, it will work ok if you have just 1 screen.

Quote from r4ptor :I'm having a very annoying issue. Two things, actually. See attached screen shots.

This happens on lots of track, but is most noticeable in Blackwood because the border line appears so late.

Same thing happens with cones and perhaps tire wall also, but they appear much much sooner though. But from an eye candy POV I would like to not do this - having LOD on max didn't have the desired effect.

Is there anything I can do about this - a driver setting perhaps?

I'm having this same problem, started annoying me only recently after upgrading from R9700 to HD3850. I'm not sure if I had it before. Is this what you all see or do you have stuff drawn all the time?

I have HD3850 which had same problems. Problem was solved by updating the BIOS for the motherboard. The motherboard is an Asrock with VIA PT880 chipset. The new PCIe 2.0 was not properly supported by the MB and it was fixed in the new bios. I also reinstalled the windows and put in the newest Catalyst drivers 8.1, so I did not really test what the bios did alone.

At the same time I got rid of AA problems that I had had.

I have exactly the same problem. I took the card back to the shop, where they tested it, and said it was ok. They claimed I had a bad PSU and I bought a new, but it did not help. Let's see whats happening next.

I never had this issue with my Momo wheel, so I have not tested this my self:
http://www.wingmanteam.com/latest_software/gadgets.htm

Logitech® MOMO® Force Center Adjustment Utility:

Description:
update Some customers have mentioned that even with the maximum values allowed by the utility, their wheel still remains slightly off center. Therefore, the utility has been updated so that you can enter higher values.
Even after installing WingMan® software version 4.11c or later, some users have reported a slight offset in the centering of their MOMO® Force wheels.
This means that if you were to turn the wheel completely to the left, then completely to the right, and then release the wheel, it would not appear to be centered with respect to the base.
This utility will allow users to "tweak" the center position of the wheel.
  • Download MOMOTweak.exe.
  • Launch MOMOTweak.exe.
  • Follow the instructions.

Quote from nikimere :Cool, thanks for the help. It's my birthday in a few days so this will be going on my list!

New card will for sure make a big difference. You want to have at least 4xAA plus other quality features. I recommend you to do some reading on the forums regarding ATI problems with AA before making a decision.

I get AA and other quality options to work only if I choose 1680x1050 (16 bit). If I choose 32 bit I do not get any AA or AF.

Any ideas?

EDIT: OK, self help works, and search as well:

Quote from Becky Rose :pedro88,calivyper,craigth,

Money talks. I could work with you to implement iVibe. There's quite a few people here who know how to do it - we all use different tools, in my case just throw me a dll with the function calls, 2 seats and £500, and you'll get your LFS support application.

Why two seats? Because i'll give one away as a prize in my league and slap some adverts for it around the track in our race broadcasts.

The other seat i'll keep.

The £500 is for my dying pet pigeon. Cancer you know. Terrible disease.

Becky, did you get the job? =)

Does anyone know if there's been progress with this?

TFS users: is it worth buying the TFS for LFS without proper support?

, braking is really random, too much or too little brake, that pedal is just so soft, oh yes and still pedals try to outrun me and I need to move them back after few laps, even I don't use excessive force.

Check this: http://www.nixim.com/pedmod.html
I got it a few days ago, but have not yet installed it.

I have a 3850 and performance wise it works ok, almost never drops below 60fps, but I have not gotten AF nor AA working in LFS. Driver version is 7.11.

Hmm.. How do you mean exactly? I have a box with about 16 buttons that I use for various kinds of commands in game. It is made of an old USB gamepad and a plastic project box. LFS detects it as a regular game controller.

Quote from Gmm :The best vga card perfomance/price is the HD3850, have a look it.

Performance is ok but the quality is not. No matter what the quality settings are on the Catalyst Control Center it uses the ugly default settings in LFS: no AA, no AF. With the older Radeon 9700 I could force the settings after the LFS was launched with a hotkey combination, but it does not work anymore.

I've lived about 28 years in Finland, 5 in Sweden and a few months in England. In my opinion what is worse in Finland compared to these countries is peoples manners. In England and Sweden when you meet a stranger he/she will most probably be polite and friendly, but in Finland people tend to be reserved. But that will usually change once the ice melts. However that has an influence on everyday life, since in a big town you will meet a lot of stranges all the time.

In Sweden people tend to have a friendly and warm attitude towards you unless they see a reason for disliking you. In Finland however too many people have "who are you" attitude until they get to learn and trust you. But I have a feeling that it's changing slowly with new generations.

But overall Finland is a good place to live. You will have enough to explore in culture and nature for another 107 years.

Quote from falcon5 :
Turned out that the Gamepad was the problem in my case. When it is plugged in no axis works. When I plug it out G25 and VPP axes work as usual.

Sad thing is that I need that gamepad to use my additional buttons on the G25. I hope this is fixable - should be as it worked perfectly in X10.

Same with my Thrustmaster USB Gamepad, if I have it connected the G25 wont work.

Quote from SladiVadi :I use the 8600GT at 1600x1200. 8xAA and 16xAF and supersampled TAA are no problem.

Thanks, now my choice is pretty easy. Just have to hope that my local PC shop will have as great service as before and let me change the card.

Quote from UncleBenny :i have an 8600 GTS which i believe is slightly faster than the GT and it runs at 50 fps for me with everything maxed out at a very high resolution (4440x1050) so i'm sure it would run fine for you on your system. if you want to play other new games too though, its not exactly the fastest card out there, it runs LFS just fine for me though.

How much AA do you have? I got a defective HD3850 and I thought to change it to 8600GT if it is that good with LFS. It would just need to run with 4xAA and at least 8xAF at 1680x1050.
