The first time I used signals to indicate how the pass hould occur, I indicated what side the faster driver should pass on. It was a reaction, and I've done it since. There's a lot of difference between driving a car on the road and driving a car on the race track, so the rules aren't always the same.

ATTN: The 360 does NOT RROD unless you do stupid things to it. One of my friends has had two 360s (his father plays one) and just recently, one of them got RROD'd. However, it was kept in a confined space, overheated, and apparently threw off the laser reader in the CD. Also, I'd just like to point out that the PS2 and other consoles had issues with their CD readers, but it wasn't as publicized as the 360's issues were. Another one of my friends likes to abuse his video game systems (the PS2 he sold me he had dropped on the video outputs) and his 360 held up for quite a while. Apparently, it RROD'd the other day, but he sent it into Microsoft and got it back a couple weeks later.

Despite all that, the 360 is a great console, I own one, and it's a lot of fun. The warranty makes it even better, just in case something does happen. I would suggest taking a look at cooling methods though to reduce the risk of overheating and possibly screwing up system internals. Also, if you do have the RROD, try wrapping a towel around your Xbox for 10 minutes or so, unplugging it, and then turning it on again. I've heard that this works, no idea how though.

Quote from jamesrowe :Ouch, hope all is OK! I'm glad we don't have ducks in LFS. Then again, I expect a lot of us would drive at virtual ducks

Reminds me of the Spyhunter 2 multiplayer mode, the objective was to kill as many chickens as possible...

What Tristan has said is right. The only tool you need for editing .eng sounds is LFS.
Shift-a, you can load and save samples, and tweak the way the engine modifies the sound. That's the ONLY way to modify the sounds.

If you've ever heard of an RTS project called Spring, then you'll know what I'm about to talk about.

The project allows users to create their own AI, and being an RTS, this is surely a time consuming and lengthy process. However, the end results are usually quite good, and these have to be some of the best AI I've ever played against for an RTS.

My point is, the same thing could happen for LFS. If there was a system that allowed users to create and program their own AI, we'd be sure to have some of the best AI out of any racing game in a short bit of time. For all of us who actually would like to see decent AI, this would be the best thing to happen to the game for us.

I just got my learner's permit yesterday, and my dad and I were doing a fair bit of driving this weekend (5-7 hours, don't know exactly how much.) We actually got out of our neighborhood about 45 minutes after I first sat down behind the wheel, and traveled on basically every kind of road except the interstate. Driving my dad's '91 300 SEL, and that's a lot of fun.

Let's just hope I don't have to hit spacebar or shift-s anytime.

Anyway, just found a picture that is, basically, the Mercedes I'm driving:

http://www.scootersofseattle.c ... /1991_mercedes_560SEL.jpg

Even though it's a 560. We've also got custom rims on our Mercedes, and it sits lower than usual, so it's pretty sharp.

Quote from Dajmin :I have no problem with adding thigns like a helicopter or boat for camera placement, as long as they weren't player controlled. Not only would it be an extra camera to watch from, it would add a little more to the environment.
I'd also like to see cameramen where the fixed cameras are now, which rotate as cars pass them, but that might be asking a bit much

Don't disrespect drifting so much. Sure, they're not running around the track trying to find the perfect line, but I'll tell you one thing most drifters are doing. Having fun. Drifting on LFS is relaxing to me, and that's why I do it, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

However, a lesson for drifting... that wouldn't be that easy. Drifting is an art form, you've got to practice it a lot to get good at it... I've drifted for a while, and I still make mistakes. It'd be hard to get someone to drift properly in a short amount of time to pass a lesson.

Yes, I had no idea what I was talking about.

The only solution I could come up with for that right now is- well, I've got no idea. I thought that textures could be alpha blended or whatever, but I was thinking of some other engine apparently.
Tire Sidewall Blurring

Just a thought, after seeing the topic about blurred sidewall textures, that we could have official support for this? I know it's unrealistic to blur the textures realtime, but perhaps a tyresidewall1 to tyresidewall10 type of thing, with 10 being the most blurred, and 1 being completely unblurred. I remember seeing something like this when I used to play RACER, and it'd be a nice touch to LFS.

P.S. I'm pretty sure those aren't the real names for sidewall textures, but it's just for example.

EDIT: Just thought of this, but to make the transitions smoother, maybe the textures could be alpha blended?

Quote from DTrott :And speeding over them in a car like FZ5 should damage the suspension or something.

Nothing like that lovely crunching sound to wake you up to the fact that you just drove over a speedbump at 110 mph.

I'm not sure of the name for the technique I use to drift, but here goes. (with the XRT)

I usually have a set that has the brake balance setup so the car has a tendency to bring the rear around. It's a bit tricky to live with at first, but you can control the car even under heavy braking after you spend some quality time with the set.

Whenever I enter the corner, I usually hit the brakes pretty hard, don't lock it up though. Then, I floor it and turn in the direction of the corner until the rear end is at a decent angle. At this point, I alternate between counter-steering and bringing the wheel to center, to keep a good drift going. Usually, I bring the wheel back at a slow pace, but if I have too much of an angle, I might have to jerk it back. Pretty much all there is to it, for me at least.

I guess it's basically weight shifting, now that I've explained how I do it.

okey, good idee for the noobs

when somebody join a server he just get a wall af spam shit;

take my sound!!!

my sound is better

...............

reintjan

And the begging for setups in servers isn't a nuisance? Wow, I didn't expect such a resistance. Since when have people had anything shoved on them like that? I mean, people don't go around forcing their setups on people as soon as they enter the server, why would this be different?

To solve the whole V8 XFGS, maybe the sound setups could be constrained to a bit more realistic values?

Quote from XCNuse :devs still have to figure out the alpha layer problem first (for those that dont know.. just look for skid marks through the windows of the FOX or other open wheel car with a windshield [yes.. looking through the shield]) you wont see any

lfs' graphics engine probably needs to be revamped anyway

This also happens in other video games, I can't think of a good example right now, but you'll notice it in games that have transparent effects and decals. I believe it doesn't draw those things at all, since they are technically not viewable, because the engine doesn't account for the transparency of the windshield.

Topic really explains it all. Either a setup like the skins system, or a P2P system, since the files are really quite small. We'd also need an option to disable sound setups for specific people, or in general, in case some idiot decides to run around with the loudest engine noise possible, though this would probably provide some fun >_>

It'd just be nice to listen to how different people's cars sound. Oh, and possibly a 'Send Engine Setup' button?
