With so many long yellow flags, it almost became a cruise, and at 35 laps, could n't avoid hitting a spinning/flipped car, and clutch temperature shot which was irreperable even after trying to cool it. Hoping to have a smoother GTR/Road car races
Although I prefer racing. drifiting is cool, fun and the satisfaction you get by delicately balancing and dancing the car at the limit of grip and balance. But what I hate is people drifting in a race server and crashing into people. Other than that, it is cool.
After making my way to 7th, after starting in 19th I thought I ll have a decent race, but two calls on my land line phone (which we never get, at this hour!) which disconnected my internet twice. Rejoined for the 2nd time, got a blue flag, slowed to let him pass, but probably I was in the racing line. Really sorry to whoever was affected by my entry in case.

What about this? "Car so and so is stationary - he might have rolled or out of fuel and needs help" I am sure In Sim gives information if a car is stationary.
It is cool, it kinds brings in the seemless app/OS interface usually seen in smartphones. Live tiles rock. Of course, I miss the useful Start->Programs. One bad thing that happened to me, ever since I installed win 8, my keys (steer/throttle ) etc get stuck mid corner, in LFS
I upgraded to Windows 8, and soon enough, the keys started getting stuck. So I am in a fast corner, and I turn right and the left steer keys and throtte gets stuck sending me to oblivion I first thought, it was due to my keyboard malfunctioning or key wear and tear. But:
1) Even when i remapped the keys, it is getting stuck
2) My laptop is just 2 months old.
2) Keys do not get stuck when I type etc. It seems to be a windows8-LFS thing.
Does anyone face such issues? Because of this, I have started using mouse now. I have to almost re-learn LFS. I am 1-2% slower now
I think I may be alone because finding a keyboard driver who has upgraded to windows 8 may be difficult
Even in 0.6B your sets rock! for nervous cars, like LX4, LX6, RAC etc. Thanks a lot Bob, I am a KB driver and I never used to be able to control the LX's though I liked them. With your sets, I can easily control them and it is my primary choice now and am able to get "great splits" and "good laps" with it, after making minimal modifications. So hats off!
Correct if I am wrong, but, I am surprised with that data. 22.5 MB/min would mean 384 KB/sec, that would mean 3 Mbps. (Megabits). I am on a 2 Mbps connection and play on maxed out servers all the time with no issues. Also if you would download 1.35 GB per hour, that is 16 GB per day, that is 480 GB per month.
I have played LFS on busy servers for 10 hours per day for many months, but it has never crossed say 6-10 GB per month. I have hi-res skin downloads enabled too. Probably you mean 22.5 Megabits per minute rather than MegaBytes, even then it seems a bit too high
I agree that F view may be unrealistic and may provide some extra info. But Morgan's post indicates that even in real life they use such devices.
First of all, you say you are faster with F view. Is it because you can see the naked tyres and the road clearly? In that case even the custom view provides similar thing. So you should oppose that too. Or is it that you are actually usin the red bars to gauge grip etc which is helping you fine tune your steering angle, braking etc?
In anycase, this is a sim, so there are many features in this which are not available in real life. But since a sim does not have the many luxuries of real life, like a crew of automobile engineers to help you out, accurate feeling of forces on your body (ignore FFB, FFB is also simulation or approximation), the smell, the sounds etc. Since a sim has many limitations compared to a real life racing, there are many extra features added to help you out, to balance the limitations of a sim, vs real life racing. And as someone said, when we use non-FFB wheels, joysticks, keyboars, mouse to drive, these kind of extra features do help.
But for the record, personally I get distracted by the F view. My most comfortable view is the custom view with "none" visible, not even tires, just the road. And just like the F view, this is unrealistic too. But this is what works for me, and this is a sim which caters to different kinds of people with different kinds of controllers etc.
And my main problem is, when you talk about unrealistic features in a sim, the F view may not be the biggest problem.
And I also sense a feeling of frustration that you have that after a month of driving you are not the fastest etc. But trust me, I don't know anyone who drives around in F view. We have people like Chesnos, who uses cockpit view, manual clutch, manual gears on a keyboard, and beating World Records! So don't worry that people are fast by exploiting some undue advantage. Those who are fast, have really earned it, with knowledge, talent, hardwork, practice and (1000 other factors which make u fast).
And, well ur FBM time is only 2 sec off WR in just 254 laps. With practice I am sure you will be up there.
Hey that is Cool work dude! Yeah glad ti know my theory was experimentally tested too. So acceleration increases. Interesting. But as u said since top speed does not increase, aa scawen mentioned, the error in speedo due to lessended wheel diameter persists i guess.
