Not trying to get too involved here, but wanted to get my 2 cents in.

I have been out of LFS racing for a good year or two up until about a month ago which is when I found the FM junkies server, and have raced no where but there since.

The server is amazing (yes, frustrating at times...but take it with a grain of salt). Regarding the admins, esp failure, they are all excellent and do the best they can. I've had multiple incidences, esp with benni and failure, and although it may have gotten heated at times, they were all resolved because of maturity and mutual respect.

I've raced with jpeace many times. As said, he's very fast, and for the most part, he can be a decent 'close racer', yet he does seem to think that since he's the fastest out there, he needs to be up front, which is just the wrong mentailly to get into. I'm usually atleast a second off the fastest time on the track yet get to top 5 consistantly....not because of my speed, but because consistancy and respect for other drivers next to me.

This forum and at times, FM junkies seems to be filled with immature and irrational people. This may be because of their age (which is understandable as it seems many young people play LFS), or jsut their mentallity, but i trully hope the FM guys don't change a thing and keep doing what they are doing, as long as they are fair, people will race there. Regarding the ban, I always believe people deserve 2nd chances, but that decision is up to the FM guys alone.

Quote from dadge :and here comes the science bit..........

Not sure what exactly you mean.. By relevant I mean that it's silly racing 19 AI as I assume most race strictly online or outlap, as I do.

Quote from Jakg :Can you go at the back of a full grid of FBM's at South City with AI please and tell me what FPS you get at the lights?

I'll try that when I get home, but I was talking about multiplayer...don't think 19 AI racing is very relevent...Oh, and my fps are only from in cockpit views, as I've never tried others.

Well i guess thats true. I'm not running any texture mods for LFS. But all graphic settings are maxed out in LFS and nHancer (HQ, 16x,16x) at 1440x900.

Quote from Jakg :Yeah it does, but 120 FPS *all* the time is damn near impossible (i.e. at the back of a full grid even with an i7 were "only" talking 40 FPS or so.

I'm running an older system (e8500 at 3.8, 2 gigs at 1066, 512mb 8800GTS) and have it locked at 60 fps (unlocked 100+). I have never inched off of 60fps at any point of any track with full grids. I'd look into why the i7 is getting that performance.

Quote from pearcy_2k7 :Wanted a late night blast but there really is no servers, apart from 1 server the most playing online is 5 in S2. Ive even started going on demo just to get a decent race with a decent grid. IMO i shouldn't ever be finding myself going back to demo but i think its the hours im trying to play, i feel sorry for the yanks, LFS is dead for them unless you go into leagues.

Just started racing again after about a year break. The only server with decent amount of people around the hours that I play seems to be the FM Fox server, which is just fine with me because i mainly race the Fox. But thank god for that server, or else there would be nothing.

As an aside...what are some of the American leagues? or atleast ones that race with doable hours for us 'yanks'? I've tried looking through the list on the forums but couldn't find one.

So what's the disadvantage to doing this? Should I set my turn compensation to 0 or 1?

Hey, ive been out of LFS for almost a year now and now am planning on getting back into it on monday. I just got the DFGT wheel. I've never made set ups, and never noticed steering angles or locks, nor do I know much about it in real life either, yet using other peoples setups, I get around pretty quick.

Anyways, i used to use the R440 saitek wheel for the last 4 years of my sim racing. I don't even remember how much steering it had on it, maybe 270?

My question is, what are the best settings to use for me if I don't want to fiddle around with settings every time i switch cars or setups yet keeping it somewhat realistic in terms of steering? Should i use 720 on all but open wheelers and use a different settings for them? If someone can just spell it out for me in 'simple' terms, id appreciate it. This goes for both ingame and profiler settings. Again i'll settle for less realstic settings if it means i dont have to fiddle too much

Hey, I've been out of the LFS scene from about a year now. Looking to get back into it. The only wheel I have owned (going for 4+ years now) is the Saitek r440 (or something like that). Excellent wheel as it has lasted so long and never given me problems except that its getting a bit loose now.

From researching on here for the last couple of days it looks like the best wheel to get is the DFGT ($110USD is about as high as I'm willing to go). I'm just wondering why there are so many referb. DFGT on ebay. Why are so many people returning them? Are those DFGT referbs good buys off ebay (they go for around 60-70 compared to 110 on amazon for brand new).

Team Inferno Setup Field

I use it for most of my setups and hotlaps...real good. Since the new patch, not all setup combos are there yet, but the database is growing.

I say...how often does that actually happen to you? (car infront of you doesn't move) well personally, not very often...so my opinion, yea its annoying but LFS has a lot bigger problems and concerns to worry about so i say let those things come first

I found that car real hard when i first started out. Make you sure you get to know the basics and the rules before you get out into the servers...it will save a lot of people from getting mad

Quote from AndroidXP :What stops you from joining a league?

Like said before, I dont have the flexiblity to race whenever the league specificies. But i do agree...T1 in almost all servers is insane. People flying everywhich way and theres no where to hide from them. I only speed into T1 if im up infront with people that i know can race, most other sitauations im forced to give up a few spots and let all those people pass me. Cuase most of the time they all end up crashing and i get my position back as i go around the crash. And yes, I wish more people would vote to "end race" and pick up on a longer race as soon as the server gets a solid amount of decent racers.

I voted to even out. Each car should have its pros/cons but overall, if you take the best driver for one car, and race him against the best driver in another car, they should be more or less the same in time. Real life leagues do this by limiting gear ratios/adding weight...etc...something similar should be added..atleast as an option on the server side for setup restrictions/penalties....i think thatll work great for league races and events..etc...

It's one of two things, your racing line is off along with your Braking point/Apex/Trail braking...or mostlikely its because of the joystick. For your line, just watch a replay of faster players and learn their line/brake point/apex and that should help with that point. But as I figure, you cant get 100%brake of 100% acceleration while turning with the joystick beacuse of the design...and anyways, i really recommand getting a wheel, or even using Mouse/Keyboard which would be easier in my opinion.

I'm based in NJ and pretty much race just the open-wheel class...the Fox mostly..but do enjoy the BF1 and the FV8. I'm not sure how the whole SimFia works (was never part of an event in LFS before) would love to be part of some, esp in the US time zone.

Quote from Zsolt Nagy : When I attended league races, I even cooled the video card manually. There's no special cooler attached to the card, only the right side panel of the computer is taken off so that more clean air gets in the inside of the computer.

That doesnt help, even makes things worse...A case is designed with 2 sides for a reason. The fans inside keep a steady flow of air going in the case, if you takeoff a side you'll disrupt that flow and actually make the cooling worse. if you want better cooling get better case fans or a better case.

Quote from farcar :The best cure for wreckers / n00bs are server admins and sensible use of the kick/ban system.

Amen brother..i agree. That or join some leagues or private events...other than that..use a lot of brakes and stay wide on T1..usually works for me
