After a long stint away from the game, I've returned only to run into this problem.

Anyone here have O2 as their ISP? Did you have to do anything special to get it working? I've forwarded ports 29339 and 63392 as mentioned in another thread, but no joy.

Admitedly alot has changed in my setup since I last played online. XP SP2 with Sky as ISP to Vista x64 with O2 as ISP.

Any tips?

I'd go Yaris but Aygo is good as well. I believe the new 1.0 litre Yaris' are group 1.

Running 7.04 here and no probs at all. All my harddrives are listed nicely on my desktop out of the box. I hadn't used ubuntu in ages, but overwrote a vista install after being thoroughly unimpressed. Beryl blows vista out of the water on eye candy and is a hell of a lot less taxing.

But as mikey said learn about fstab and you'll be fine, plenty of help on the forums.

When I was demo I always thought having a passworded server where only pre approved racers can join would be a good idea. ie register on a site and be emailed the server password. If the user messes about revoke their license.

But then I went and bought S2 and the idea seemed kinda pointless :P
It'd be a nice thing for demo users, but just too much hassle to implement and enforce.

When racers say S2 is a totally different experience, it's not a marketing gimmick. Take the plunge! Go S2!

Quote from sinkoman :
People with more credits in Sim Mode are obviously better drivers.

So people without credits would be bad drivers? Or perhaps they don't have the time or patience to slug away at 'levelling up'. This isn't an mmorpg, there's leagues and stuff that does cater for this (CTRA for example) but I definitely don't want to see this as the standard in the game.

Quote from mrodgers :This is one comment that I wouldn't want to see. I race only in the evenings/night. I don't want to be racing at night all the time, only some of the time.

I definitely wouldn't want to see it as standard, god no. I'd hope that the current 24/7 sunny, no wind, day servers would still exist alongside a few real time servers.

I can see the benefits of using 'LFS Weather', the system wouldn't be dependant on a 3rd party, the weather would be set on the master server.

Setting the time of day according to the server time should be straightforward. But I suppose it would be best to implement server location based weather in a separate application. You don't want LFS throwing a wobbly whenever accuweather or whatever source is used changes their interface.

I like the idea. Another method could be setting the time and weather based on server location.

Good idea.

I'd prefer the yellow square and black cross, I don't want L plates on my shiny FZR!!

Probably very late but I'll make the naming suggestion nonetheless.

ULTRA : UKCT License Tiering Race Authority

(Tiering/tiered, race/racing, authority/administration?)

Kept looking at UKCTRA and thought that's so close to ULTRA

Push to pass might be fun for a while, but it strikes me as a little too NFS (yes, I know they exists in real racing). I'm sure the novelty would wear off quickly.

It could possibly be implemented by manipulating the voluntary intake restrictions we now have. The whole idea is to get 'NOS' like speed bursts. But there must be a server side option to disable this!

Although I really look forward to engine damage and user set rev limits!

That's something I've always found odd. Perhaps a better solution is to send the driver to spectate?
Car advice

I'm looking around for a car (used) and wanted to draw on the collective knowledge of LFSers

I've been looking into the Nissan Primera 2.0 GT (96-99) and it seems pretty good on paper. 34 MPG, 0-60 8.5s and only insurance group 9! If there are any owners here, please let me know what you think of the car.

I'm really trying to find something fairly economical, relatively cheap insurance yet is suited to motorway driving. Suggestions welcome.

As far as I know, if you have significant overlap you have the right to the inside line through the corner, ie the car you are overtaking shouldn't swing into you while sticking religiously to the racing line.

While overtaking you must allow the car being overtaken room on the outside. ie don't run them off the road.

If you don't have significant overlap the car in front is allowed to swing out for the corner following the racing line, you should back off.

I totally agree with Becky, entry level server has to be the FOX. The MRT is a harder car than the FOX, so you'd be going backwards from the MRT to the FOX.

I acknowledge that the FOX does nothing to prepare you for the other single seaters, but the entry level server would be an introduction to race craft rather than vehicle control. Once drivers know how to behave on track you can let em loose with the more difficult vehicles.

So as unnatural as it looks, I'd suggest FOX > MRT > FO8 > BF1 for progression. Possibly combine the MRT and FO8, alternating on the second tier server. Then we have the pinnacle of sim racing, the BF1 tier (where drivers aren't just going round in circles)!

Quote from Rtsbasic :Funny, I've been a customer of Savastore for years - used to pop down to their shop in Luton mostly (Watford Electronics it used to be called).

Same here, and the sign still says Watford Electronics . I've never really ordered anything from Savastore online, always popped into their shop (if you can call it that) and ordered. Always had someone to shout at when things went wrong . Although I'd never had any major problems with them I'd be weary of ordering online from them. Their stock level things been saying 2-5 days for the last 2-5 years.

I too went through a phase where I gave up on consoles and swore to stick to PC gaming. Then the hassle of maintaining disk space, calculating system requirements, patching everything, etc, got the better of me and thought sod it. Consoles are great for party gaming and the fact that it's just pop a disc in and play. The only 'game' I play on the PC now is LFS.

Now what I'm looking for is a place to get 3 controllers on the cheap, I can't see anywhere beating ebay for that and some more games for it.

If you have any Cash Generators nearby you should check them out, unless of course you want them brand new. I got 3 controllers from there (albeit quite a while back) for £1.50 a piece, and yes they still work . Hours of fun on Super Monkey Ball

Yep, it's widescreen and it does do 75Hz (goes upto 85Hz on lower resolutions I believe). I'm content with 60Hz just wondering why windows acts funny with 75Hz. It works when I set it, just causes problems when windows boots up. The POST screen is ok at 60Hz, so is the windows loading thing. But when I'm meant to get into windows the screen goes blank.
Help with refresh rate

Hi,

I'm having problems setting the refresh rate on my 19" Samsung SyncMaster 940BW. I have an ATI 9800 Pro. I can set the resolution to 1440x900@75Hz, but once windows (XP SP2, fully updated) restarts I just get a black screen.

Checking the monitor information it says it's in 320x480@60Hz (31.5 KHz NP, if that means anything to anyone). I then unplug the DVI cable, plug it back in and all is fine. If I run in 60Hz everything is ok as well. I'm baffled by this. 75Hz works fine until I restart!

I also use ATI Tray Tools (to set AA and AF settings for LFS) , but I've tried disabling it and still nothing. I've tried reinstalling the graphics drivers, no luck . Anyone have any ideas?

Quote from bbman :I can assure you, it definately wouldn't work, it would just limit the access to the servers, like "complete all trainings to go online" (which you're against, hello double moral)...

It's not a 'double moral'. You'd still have unrestricted servers for any Tom, Dick or Harry to join. Only I'll be looking for servers operating an Intermediate restriction for close racing, while trying to improve enough to take on the WR contenders on Professional servers.

Quote from bbman :In leagues, everybody has a common goal (finishing as far in front as possible), and everyone respects the other and is cautious not to crash, as it would result in penaltys (up to being banned from the league) and fewer points...

In any race everyone 'should' have a common goal (finishing as far in front as possible), and everyone 'should' respect each other and 'should' be cautious not to crash, as it would result in penalties (up to being banned from the server)...

Public races may not have this at the moment, but they should.

Most servers are enforcing rules more actively nowadays, they're trying to bring league racing standards to the masses. Surely this is the way forward?
