It has been said numerous times that there is no contract. BF1 is in LFS as a result of Intel advertising campaign (hence we have Intel logos plastered all over the place). FBM is due to the deal with V1 motorsports (or whatever). There is no agreement with BMW itself.

What you suggest requires a substantial reworking of the graphics engine. It will take a long time, and Scawen would have to drop everything he is doing and concentrate on that exclusively. It's not going to happen and 99% of LFS'ers don't care for it anyway.

Surely some of you Euro guys heard of Opel GT.

Quote from only.one.RydeR :The reason they gave the FZR an H-pattern gearbox is for class balancing. Being able to change transmission would just disrupt that balance.

I read this when patch Y was released.

I know. I don't think that's the best way to do balancing though.

Quote from Primoz :Sequential boxes are veeeery expensive for Porsche racing cars AFAIK. Thus only the most wealthy teams can afford them (Alzen had an H in their 996 biturbo).

A budget required to run a single BF1 would eclipse the cost of a Porsche gearbox by many orders of magnitude, and yet every LFSer has access to one. So let's pretend the player's team is the richest. Not to mention we don't have money/team budgets in LFS, so I really don't think cost is a valid argument. I believe GTR class should just let us choose a gearbox, just like LX cars have roof/no roof option.

P.S.
Are sequentials expensive only for Porsches or in general?

At best, hopefully iRental lights a renewed fire under our dev's respective arses like the rFactor F1 and NetKar releases seemed to do (iirc we got some major content updates around the time of those two).

That's what I was thinking. Hopefully every developer in the genre gets a bit energized. Hell, if the physics/damage are good, let Simbin lincense it for GTR3, I'll buy it in a heartbeat.

I think transmission switching should be in for GTR class. E.g. FZR w/ H-gate is not something that should be enforced--realistically, certain teams could opt for sequential.

I would agree to pay $40-$50 for the "engine" (and all subsequent patches, naturally) and $10 or so per car/track (again, that includes all future updates, if there are any). For about $100 I would have months worth of gameplay (Formula Mazda + Laguna Seca + Watkins Glen + 2 random cars/tracks). But they would have to be mine forever, none of that subscription business.

EDIT: actually, if I found out the cars and tracks were THAT good, I could probably pay $20-25 for them. But I would like to own content.

Every time a player crashes a car in game, he has to pay real life money for repairs. Would certainly get rid of the wreckers.

I guess +1 for cold tyres and I suggest the warm-up lap option, which we'll need in that case.

Quote from nihil :For me, its not the expense, its more a structural principle that's the problem.

That's why I wrote, "Product vs. Service debate aside". My comment was aimed more at the folks who lament about it being "tons of money" as if that's the main problem.

I'll honestly say that I'm still undecided on the subscription issue, but not too happy about it.

Also, they can always change/abandon the subscription model if they find out the userbase is smaller than projected.

Yes GT5 will sell millions more copies, but perhaps iRacing can too, if they priced themselves lower.

Product vs Service debate aside, I find the amount of grown up employed men from US/Western Europe calling $13/mo "tons of money" frightening. Maybe myself, axus, and BBT should join some frugality courses Seriously guys, I'm not rich, but when I go to Manhattan to hang out with friends (no rich people there either), it's at least $60-70 per person, all things combined (nothing upscale, mind you--just not McDonalds). How is $13/mo so impossible?

Quote from bbman :Why don't you get there are people who don't like paying for something they have absolutely no power over?

That's an interesting point, and while emotionally I agree with you... what power does this community have over LFS? Let's say the devs decide to do something "terrible". All you can possibly do is not d/l a new patch, and play the old version on some outcast servers in the company of other marginals Sure, you still have the "product", but if it's getting morally obsolete and the userbase is greatly reduced, is it still worth the money you paid originally?

Oh shit, I forgot LFS devs can't do wrong, my bad

Quote from DeadWolfBones :It's not a demo license. Essentially, there is no demo--you just pay at the monthly rate for as long as you like. You can do one month at the monthly rate and then either stop playing, buy a year's subscription at $13/mo, or keep playing month to month.

True, I stand corrected. I still don't like the $20/mo thing. At least make it $13/mo regardless of subscription plan. Not that the extra $7 will make me poorer, I just don't like this way of doing things.

The original plan was to have a month-long demo license for $20. I hope they reconsider.
