The hotlap analyser doesn't extract the setup, though. I'm pretty sure it loads up a special LFS instance that just replays the hotlap and reports if the replay is HLVC invalid or goes OOS.

Quote from bunder9999 :got anything to back that up? i was under the impression that replays didn't contain enough information for it to be worth it, if it was even possible.

The replay does contain the full setup information, otherwise it wouldn't be possible to watch or "test drive" the replay at all.

First, set it up like this. None of the cars in LFS use more than 720° steering, so that is enough. Of course you can force the cars to use more than 720°, but the animation won't match up with your real wheel then.

As for force feedback strength in LFS, it depends a bit on the car. Cars with driven front wheels tend to have lighter FF, so you should set the strength a bit higher for those than for RWD ones. In general I'd say a value around 40% ingame FF strength is good.

It kinda depends on what you like more, though. Setting the strength lower gives you a much wider dynamic range of the force feedback, but small forces around the centre might be very weak or completely lost then. If you set the strength higher, you'll be able to feel those small forces much better, but at the same time the alignment torque forces (front wheels try to point in direction of travel) can very quickly reach the maximum FF strength the wheel can provide, making this part of the FF feel very on/off-ish.

Overall, just experiment and choose what you like best Smile

Just some wireless cables and you're good to go!

Sorry. I guess a wireless router and antenna would do the trick?

You can play together on a local server with the same license. You just can't go online with multiple users using the same license.

So it's back to being more of a guided self-extractor and won't leave a mess if you just delete the folder instead of properly uninstalling? Gets a +1 from me. The only thing I can see that would stay are the file associations, but it's not like that's any different to now.

No, there is no ingame voice chat. You have to use some third party voice communication software, like TeamSpeak, Ventrilo, Skype, etc. if you want to chat with others, but of course the others also have to use those services then.

Heh, now all Scawen needs to do is disable InSim for demo hosts

Quote from David 09 :wheels view serves just to be faster

And bonnet view doesn't help with that? Your main argument is that wheels view is unrealistic and arcadey, but the bonnet view somehow isn't? If people are faster than you then I can guarantee you that's because they have more skill, not because they're using the wheels view.

Wheels view doesn't only have advantages either; it's harder to judge where your car is in relation to others and from my experience you tend to look at the wheels too much instead of actually looking further away into the corner, making it harder to get your lines right.

Besides that, some people actually use real cockpits, what would be the point of showing them twice?

Some people have slow computers and the wheels-only view can help keep the fps a bit higher.

There is already the serverside option to force cockpit view and that is enough. LFS has lots of unrealistic things, but they have to be there because it's still a computer game, not reality.

Why? It's their loss.

Also, equally important, upgrading to a newer DirectX version does not result in better graphics.

If Scawen were to upgrade to DX11 right now LFS would still look the same, the only difference being that it would not run on DX9 hardware/WinXP anymore (as mentioned you need to have two graphics engines to support both DX9 and DX10+). Newer DX versions just give the developer more possibilities regarding special effects, or allow some effect calculations to run faster than on older versions due to shader language enhancements. Scawen would still need to code all these effects to begin with, and LFS isn't even using the simplest of DX8 and DX9 effects.

For the love of god, please don't post bitmaps

That reminds me, Victor, could you please go ahead and remove "bmp" as valid attachment format? There is no reason whatsoever to allow it - it's just an enormous waste of space and server traffic.

No, LFS has changed this some while ago. Calibrate the clutch pedal completely normal, without any special calibration / axis locking tricks nor DxTweak adjustments.

Now go out on the track. This is important, as it only shows when you're actually in a car. You're free to open the options / axis assignment page while doing this.

Fully press the clutch and slowly let it come. For the first 1/3 of travel on the yellow bar shown in the options the blue clutch bar in the lower right won't move one bit. Only the last 2/3rds actually affect the car's clutch, which then acts pretty much linear.

I repeat, you do not need the manual bitepoint calibration trick any more. It's built into LFS itself!

The scripts are executed every time you leave the garage, so if the scripts turn off all the driving aids then of course you have to re-enable them every time you adjust the setup.
