Actually torrents itself nor discussion of them isn't illegal in any way.
Many TV shows are legally shared for free. I believe that ie. older Top Gear shows are available for download as torrent too and has nothing to do with warez.
And I'm sorry I can't really help OP cause I don't know any good police show torrents.
This thread actually reminded me of one unrealistic feature in LFS. Yes it's the small puffs of smoke from tires.
Weirdly if you get your tires hot enough, they will produce a bit of smoke even in the straights when you're not even burning any rubber actually.
This doesn't happen IRL.
It's not maybe the most important things to get corrected in LFS, but it can be a bit annoying sometimes, at least when watching the replay.
If there's no already, someone should make a improvement suggestion out of this.
Please no or at least if, then have a one slider in the options to make them silent.
Some games feature these sound effects and it always makes me annoyed to hear the same sound clip over and over again when I go past the main straight.
Plus the fact that I'm Finnish. In Finland if you go to a motorsports even't the crowd is quite silent. We don't shout "oooh lalala bononoo" when car goes past by, we like to actually hear the car itself. I always hate it when in a ie. rallying video some twats starts shouting and my ears blow up and I can't hear the car. Of course no hard feelings to you people in other countries, we just have different cultures.
And yes + this fact. You can't hear these noises inside the car. Maybe on replay you could hear some of this stuff, but I would still have them on silent cause I wan't to hear the car.
What? Usually when engine runs on 3 cylinders only it means there is something going wrong... Healthy engine runs on all cylinders. With a "tight" cam the idle can be somewhat "unstable" but it still runs on all cylinders.
But in general the idea of some little randomization OP posted is quite good I think.
I don't really like this idea TBH.
Because I'm pretty sure there is lots of people in LFS who have no idea of how real engines sound. I mean I wouldn't like hearing the .eng sound some 13 year old created with the thought of ricerITBfartcanturboBOVDVwastegatechatter ultimate performance engine in mind. And then with a massively bad sound quality too.
I've seen some of these in youtube and lots of people who modify .eng files don't seem to have a clue about how real engines sound.
The sound made by rumble strips is "the whole car". I mean when you drive over the curbs they shake the tire violently and it transfers to the whole car. The body and even the interior parts and basically everything on the car is adding it's own "sound effect" because of the big amount of shaking. It echos thru the whole car.
Generally we could have a one nice sound sample for it and it could be fairly realistic.
Tho I'm not really sure if I would want it. In many games it sometimes annoys me how unrealistically the rumbling sounds work in them.
They usually just shout me something like "hear how artificially this sound is produced".
I dunno how LFS models these things, but the rumble strips could be their own material like road, grass and gravel are and they all have their own sound samples and different "rules" in what situation they are initiated.
And BTW racing cars can produce some quite loud, so called suspension and chassis sounds too, even without any really big bumps on the road.
Many cars, especially older ones have a simple limiter like in LFS that only cuts ignition at the limiter RPM. IE. my own Sierra doesn't bounce much, it just cuts ignition and fuel when it hits ~6125 or so rpm. It bangs and pops a bit but doesn't bounce really. Also if I recall correctly, old Volvos cut only ignition and doesn't bounce. The bouncy effect is very popular on modern cars, tho I dunno why. I'm not also quite sure how it is produced, but the manufacturer has to somehow "engineer" the bouncy timing in there (maybe a some kind of relay or something, I dunno).
Basically modern cars bounce because the manufacturers wan't to, maybe it is to make it more noticeable for the grandmas on the road that they are over revving.
When I was younger I used to play around with these programs. Earlier eJays were very simple, but the more recent ones had synthesizers and beat machines and all I think...
So it definitely isn't a sim, but it looks like something I could have fun with and then get bored to it after some time. After all looks better than the NFS's what they have been making so far.
I can't hear any of that... I can hear the straight-cut gears whining but no DV.
