What resolution were you running at before?

Going from say; 1024x768 to 1920x1080 will make large jumps in the required performance needs. I really don't know anything about ATI cards but I do believe the 5770 should handle the resolution fine...

From that image, it seems you need to play with the bezel widths/offsets in the SoftTH config file. But if you are getting less than 30fps, I wouldn't go into an actual race. Even 30fps can be on the edge of playable (and that depends how consistent it actually remains).

But to me, in that latest image it doesn't look anything like what you described you wanted above. It looks more like the stretched image of the screenshot you took - which is how _I_ would expect / desire - as that gives you the best feeling of being in the car.

The "how it does look" looks far more natural to me. What you are trying to achieve (seems to me) looks like it would be three separate cameras at different angles to look 'OUT' the side window. Unless your side-monitors are at an extreme angle, I'd stick with the way it is. I do notice the stretching in the top picture, actually a little more stretching than I get here.

Thanks for uploading, as I understand what you want. A good hint for you, (assuming you don't already use/own) would be TrackIR, then you turn your head slightly to see out the window like you want.

Do you use SoftTH or have a hardware solution for the triple? I believe SoftTH (which I use at this time) has some correction stuff that helps a bit with the stretching, that said, I still get the stretching - and you always will unless there are multiple rendering points. High FOV values will start to break down the rendering math as I was saying earlier.

Spreading the front view wider (tripling the FOV) is the advantage to three screens. I'm not sure how your view is messed up, or what your trying to achieve; I know I use cockpit view with 3 screens, and it feels pretty natural. Based on the math in rendering a 3D scene to 2D monitors, the side monitors will be slightly stretched, but I haven't found that terribly distracting.

Try taking a screen shot of your cockpit view, and your custom camera that is closest to what you want. (Shrink them a bit and save as jpg or something obviously). Hope you figure out how to get it working for you!

A few weeks ago I started making my own physical world so that I would have to deal with all the hang ups I've hit of doing the AIRS project in LFS. While this might not sound as awesome to some people, the project goals and intentions still remained the same to me...

http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/4107/airace.png

I didn't get very far, I only worked on it for a weekend. The car doesn't have tires because I was planning on integrating my TireSim deformable tires, just because. The car doesn't move, there is no real engine or anything in it, just a cone and a car from my old TireSim project back in 2009. I am confident I will (at some point in time) work on the ideas behind the AIRS project... As always: too busy at this time though.

I know that it is possible to artificially control an LFS car. If you look up in the thread I displayed a few replays where I had the "AI" driving from point to point, but that isn't all I wanted done with from this project that seems to be not exactly alive... I wish I had the time to work on it.

But in any case, nice job.

I'm still around, and I'm sure de Souza and a few teammates might have interest in kicking around...

As for iRacing, I did a 3 months for the price of 1 awhile ago, which I bought some content... And I just reupped the subscription (as they ran the 3 months for the price of 1 again). It is superior in some ways, but LFS is superior in others (my opinion).

This is a link to my AIRS project thread, which has some of the Virtual Controller information. I saw a bit on post #100 where I had first got PPJoy working even though it still had problems.

http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=63807

Not sure it will be useful, there is a lot of stuff to sift through in there though...

As far as the OutGauge/OutSim responses to use the gauge speed vs actual speed - I wasn't thinking this would be accurate enough (especially for my needs) for a decent traction control thing...

Although since this is about Cruise Control, it should not be to hard to use SetCursorPos (Windows specific, which LFS is anyway), and set the throttle axis to use the mouse... I'm not sure if you can use the mouse for only throttle though. But I know you could create an LFS script to change the controls as needed as the cruise control gets toggled on/off.

Quote from MadCatX :There was a guy who wrote a traction control mod for cars that don't have it in LFS. He didn't release it so all we got was a couple of videos showing what it does. It's certainly possible, perhaps a proxy DLL would help?

Really now? This seems like it would require some information like wheel spin which I was running into problems with regarding my AI project ... I'd be interested to know how he did that portion of it, although I am guessing he simply used the RPM values and if it spiked he would cut back the throttle. Either way, this would need the virtual controller method being talked about - which I did get working after a lot of trial and error.

Quote from Whiskey :The more I could do was creating a virtual joystick reading my G25 input, but could't guess how to send that info to LFS or Windows

I agree this could have bad uses, in my case it doesn't, I want to alter iddle RPM, but I'm stuck.

What you would need to do is use ppjoy? or whatever it was for the virtual joystick. Then read in the input for the wheel/controller device (which limits you to wheels, and the settings could be different from LFS settings, etc etc list of problems).

Then when cruise control is set on, instead of sending the controller device info to the virtual joystick, you would send the cruise control algorithm information to it... Which this is relatively straight forward. I don't see any bad uses for this, but for a general mod - installing a virtual controller is asking too much... (imo).

I've technically written this before during my experimental AIRS in LFS project.

EDIT: However, it requires things that (in my opinion) make the mod not acceptable for general use... I'm pretty sure it can NOT be done while also giving the player control of the car.

Have a 15.3x as well... I KNOW I can do a sub 10 minute run, as I spent over 5 minutes at the top here...

Aint there enough picture threads?

Edit: Yet another thread with no point at all - just to pump up the postcount.

Meh, sorry for thinking the game would be fun and interesting to some. I don't care about post count at all, but I had not seen this one played (until the link above was given) and thought it was an interesting picture game that hadn't been done....

Guess some people care about post counts, but I don't. I'm sorry that you do, I'd just post when there is something to add, and I guess I miscalculated that some people might get a kick out of it.

Meh, I guess I should just call a moderator to come close this since apparently I can't try bringing enjoyment to some.

If the game continues;

True, but this one keeps it slightly more on topic with the addition of the rule "related to racing"

EDIT: Whoa, anyway to resize the image to say 50%?
EDIT2: Changed image.

Okay, this forum seems to have loads of fun little games with pictures so here is a new one that I saw from another forum. Simply find a picture and post it that has a number exactly 1 higher than the previous post. Since I am first I post 1.

The only rule I am going to add is the picture must have some link with racing. The other game I saw had over 1050, but they went "anything goes".

Enjoy.

Quote from jrd.racer :Do it again buddy!

Maybe someday, but first, I need to pay off these student loans. Maybe I will do it a year after that happens to really consider what else I want from life. Because at that point, if everything goes to plan, I'd finally be debt free - until I buy a house, but that can wait, or can it?

I'll definitely hike around, waiting for another chance to do an epic adventure again, but all I can say for now is: "I wanna do it again." Life was simpler, and actually more healthy for me in many ways.

Well with a record number of sign-ups it had to be known that there would be a record number of unclaimed dropouts as well. I was expecting Event 1 to have had far more participants than Event2 based on how many people actually responded.

With that minor detail aside, the events were great. Those from Event 2 that were on the server at the time Event 1 started were allowed to enter, considering the extremely low numbers. Only 12 qualified, and 13 participants is the minimum required for the 16 player event. So several were 4 people were eliminated. Andris Pavars went on through to the Final and knocked out Martin Kapal to take the win.

Event 2 went a bit better, with 15 people on the server - only one racer would get the bye race. Which was none other than Dave Williams who landed pole during qualifying. Dave Williams went on through the rounds making it to the finals against Andris Pavars, who pulled a fair lead in the first of four final races. Dave put the hammer down and caught back up, and took a minor lead from overall combined time. Dave went for a PTW after a small incident out of the chicane, and eventually took the win of the event. Well done.

Thanks for those that showed, and I'm sorry to those that were involved in MoE, we did not check the calendar for conflicts like we used to. Thanks to those who let us know they wouldn't be showing, and I'd like to know why the other 20 people simply didn't show without any notice.

Attached are replays, and the official results will be coming as soon as possible.

ati drivers work just fine
Possibly. But not in _my_ personal experiences. In anycase, I'd pick nvidia anyday, even with slight cost vs performance.

ram doesnt consume any noteworthy amount of power
Possibly, but when my rails are already under desired voltage, and my DVD already disconnected, and occasional bootup issues depending on USB devices, I won't risk anything without taking more pieces out.

2gb is more than enough for 7

Depends on usage and practice. I don't find 2gb enough for XP with my computing habits.
