Uh, what? Sorry, but yes, more polygons does make things look better. Yes, it would make things slower, but most people run LFS with lots of fps to spare before it gets ugly.
Anyway, I'd love to have bolts on all cars. The formula bmw and the scirocco do have them, but adding some to the other cars wouldn't be too hard, aye?
Montreal wouldn't work, it's in the middle of the river, so the cars can be easily heard on both sides. People didn't mind it too much for a week-end, but for longer periods of time, it's not viable. Besides, it's also under snow ^^
Anything south enough to be used during the winter would work, really.
That would be kind of funny, but remember that most cars we currently have in LFS are far from new anyway. The XRR would probably be as old as those old DTMs.
Tornadoes? We never thought about that for LFS. How blind are we? We need tornadoes! I want every major disaster imaginable to be available at a ludicrously high happening rate! Including molasses spills!
I must say, I'd rather have your very occasional 1 inch of snow rather than my bi-weekly 10 inches. Besides, when it's not snowing, you get wind cold enough to actually freeze your beard over. I'm still not sure which of the two I hate the most. Snow is annoying if you've got a car, but apart from that, assuming that you hire someone to clear your drive-way, it's pretty much a non-issue.
I'd really prefer living in England, even if it means going around perpetually with an umbrella.
IMO, it should be limited to what you can really tune on which type of car. For instance, if you're going to race with a car similar to a XFG, the options available would be those that you would find and be able to customize on the real car. While things like camber and all the suspension stuff can probably truly be edited, I'm not sure it's so easy as it is in LFS to change the gear ratios on road cars.
e: I agree with Zen, here. The question really is to know what kind of cars we're talking about. If they're stock road legal cars, a lot of options would have to go. However, if they're road legal cars customized with some parts here and there, then more options would be available. On race cars, however, most things should probably stay as they are.
By the way: option 5 doesn't really work. I believe that a lot of people, me included, don't have like 30 setups on every car, one for each track. I usually have a qualifying setup and then a 5/10 laps race setup. Should I race for more than 10 laps, I usually just tweak my race setup accordingly.
It is indeed true that new teams lately have had a tendency to fail. However, I think this has mainly been caused so far by the incredible costs associated with F1. With the cuts in 2009, it could turn out different for the next team to join in. That thing helping with the costs of engine (and it seems, gearboxes), clearly would reduce the financial problems that all the new teams seem to have after a couple of years; especially the private ones.
Assuming that Mr. Anderson knows what he's doing and that agent Ecclestone doesn't try to suck him dry of his precioussss money, this could lead to something.
Seriously, it wasn't bad for the time, what was it, like 1999? Only problem about it is that the cars could be infinitely broken, and after a couple of crashes the whole thing kind of looked like something you'd expect to come out of Wall-E. I don't even think parts came out, they just got pushed in. Gee, I wonder what 2009 game that reminds me off. There's a message, there!
Personally, I think that's something that's been missing from F1, and could definitely make it much more interesting. There's nothing like a bit of over pond competition to spice things up a bit!
I personally think NFS II, High Stakes and Porsche Unleashed were very good games, and I think most people here agree with this. It's the more recent 'zomg rac0rz lolwoo1337!11oneleven" that I have a problem with. The original Underground (was it the 6th?) wasn't too bad, but seriously, does it need to be reworked ten times? I don't even know what's the NFS count now: is it like 12?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not entirely against the whole mod thing. It could be a good thing, but is it not because it is presented to the customers as 100% 12 year old arcade material. It is in no way representing the real world of modding, which we don't even know what is really like because it's been represented in movies as content 12 year olds would like (which they do). Now, if somebody bothered to release a serious modding simulation game, with content designed for people older than 12, something interesting might be achieved.
The only problem with modding is that it has been worked by crappy movies and video games into a stereotype of a ludicrous world, and most importantly, arcade type racing, even in the movies (let's go fly over some buses with our 12 feet high winged japanese cars, aye?).
So no, we do not want LFS to become just like NFS, because we like our older audience, and the level of simulation we have.
I think so far this winter we've got more snow than what we actually got last year at the same point, and if I'm not mistaken, it was a record winter
Here's what I see in front of the house. And yes, that's a tree buried under the snow. Last winter, it had totally disappeared from view. It will probably do so again this year.
And I don't think the schools have been closed so far this year.
I'm not sure this could actually be considered a bug, maybe rather something that has was planned to be fixed in the next viewer's version. In the viewer, when you change the color of the wheels, the whole wheel changes color, including the VW logo and the bolts, both of which probably shouldn't really change color. I'm assuming that is not wanted, because that is very ugly
I hope this hasn't been noted before, but anyway I couldn't find it.
Hey everyone. I've been working on this headlight texture for the Scirocco. I think I've achieved something, but I'd like your comments on it and improve it as needed
I changed the two head lights and the fogs, but not the turning signals.
e: here, I added the .dds
e2: There's something that scares me: how the hell is that gonna look with the lights on? There's no way to test this in the viewer and I do suspect it'll look weird (as I surrounded the headlights, the flash texture will probably be too large).
Quite true. Assuming that the number of potentially good athletes at any given sport is proportional to the population of each countries, China should have much more potentially good racing drivers than any other country on the planet. Yet, we don't see many Chinese F1 drivers, do we? To put that even more in proportion, Canada and specifically Quebec province has seen two race winning F1 drivers (the Villeneuves) and there's only about 7 million people in the province. What are the odds that China doesn't have any potentially as good drivers in over 1 billion? Racing really is an elite sport
Yes, that's the thing. So far, if you only looked at the front part of the car, it was mostly fine. It was only when you looked at the whole thing that you saw that it was out of proportion. The Renault's front wing and nose, are, however, genuinely awful. You don't even need to look at the whole car to see just how bad it is. The other cars wouldn't be too bad front wing wise if it just fitted with the rear wing.
I'm not joining any kind of club, it seems a little bit weird: is anybody 'not glad LFS is growing in beauty'? The Scirocco's interior does indeed seem to be easily the best to date, and I certainly hope this is the kind of work we can expect for the next interiors to be released. I do agree that this graphical engine does seem quite versatile, and it seems it has a lot to give, yet, there's only so far we'll go with textures: hopefully it will have some upgrade by the time S3 is completed.
I think we've got a new ugliness winner for 2009. That Renault is definitely the worse car so far: that front nose makes it look like a lotus or something
It just looks like they removed every single pieces on that thing that could make the aerodynamics just a tad better.
At some point during the season a rear wing will break, and... ... well since it won't change anything in the handling of the car, they'll just move it completely.
It is indeed comically small. The front wing isn't too bad, it just looks a little bit weak... I wouldn't be surprised this year sees a lot of front wing on the road. It is also too large, which will make it even easier to get stuck into other people's rear tires! The cars as a whole would be okay looking if the rear wing was a tad larger, and the front one a tad thinner. Apart from that, the slick tires will probably be fun.
I find it really interesting how they all look from very awful to okay depending on what angle the camera took the picture at. It sees that 3/4 angles sees a bit from overhead are really the worse.
