Yeah there is a bit of a problem with the object limit. I did what I could considering it is at the limit already.
If you can point out a few of the worst spots I can make a better version. You could use the replay as a guide and say "at around 2:15 in the replay..."
I had a lot of fun driving this layout and spent a long time tweaking the object placement so once you get used to it it drives really well. The hardest part is getting used to braking late enough in the blind corners on grass
Hello all, here is another point to point rally stage.
The idea is to stay off the asphalt as much as possible. There weren't enough objects to cover the whole track so no cheating
Intended for LX6, it is fast with a few hair-raising bends. Of course the track was already built-in (except no water in the water splash) so I just placed a few markers to help cornering.
People ask why not? Because that's not what LFS is about! LFS got where it is because the devs chose their priorities very carefully and their main goal seems to be to give us the tools to race each other online.
Think of club racers who meet at a local track every so often to race. Can you imagine one of them coming up and saying " hey we should really rip up turns x, y and lay some new asphalt! this old track is so BORING ". ...
No, LFS is about driving at the limit and having someone close to you doing the same thing. People who do that have a lot of fun. People who give up early wish they could race elsewhere.
Go play NEED for speed
Besides, if there should be any new content in LFS, it should be 4D sports driving (with the track editor)
Oh yeahhhhhhhh.. the mini and the BF1 are so similar to the XRG. And what's the difference between the UFR and the FZR anyway, they're so generically the same
aston and south city... basically the same right?
some people will say anything! :uglyhamme
Demo users dropped off 8 months ago because the XRT was removed from demo. Maybe they went somewhere else to drift or bought S2 who knows? I guess the FBM wasn't too easy to drift
you know you're an LFS fanatic when you try to look left and right in 1nsane with the wheel buttons instead of the mouse. (gee is there a way up this mountain?)
you know you're an LFS fanatic when you tell people at work "it's not a game, it's a simulation"
you know, it takes a lot of guts to try to predict a release date. you always get burned when you try to be too nice to people
LFS rules. GRID? Where is the tight online pack racing in GRID LOL
great news that LFS is continuing to put a priority on close online battles with the limited setup options on yet another new car released in a patch we don't have to pay for
oh yeah and while you're at the helm steering LFS to success, please don't forget to spend some of my money on this online service I keep having great races on
of all the things I've paid for in my life, LFS has been the cheapest in dollars per minute. if S3 is only a few dollars more, I'll kind of feel like I cheated the devs but if they release some features that make S2 "obsolete" would anyone say they wouldn't pay a yearly fee?
I know I know terrible thought but then again, LFS has seemed like a total freebie for so long now.
then again you could say if they finish S3 they get to play the damn thing themselves, which is should we say more than money can buy
if it stays at S2 for the rest of time I believe I will still log in and have bumper to bumper heart pounding races
Not much to say except that I kind of got addicted to this one so other people might get a kick out of it. sub-4:00 times are possible but I don't know about 3:55s...
it is a mix of tight asphalt that is supposed to recall UK-style narrow lanes with some hairy sandy corners and hopefully not too much of a switchback feel.
for mini cooper only. set and replay attached.
please post times if you start having fun there are two more that might be postworthy if people find this point-to-point style interesting
I know what you mean. I got the patch then had a go at south city classic reversed in the FZR. I use Biggie's blackwood set, so my screen was really bouncy and harsh with the updated view physics. Turning down the amount of head tilt per g (somewhere in view options) helped a bit, but I still completely lost my bearings coming out of the chicane one time, because my line was a little too out of control.
Around about the 4th race it started feeling fun again, but it sure has changed completely. Before, if I turned the force feedback down and put a little engine restriction in the GTRs felt pretty tame, but now the sheer speed seems like more of a barrier than before.
I think you're right that a part of the game has been .. excised. Some surgery took out the easy way you could lap at benchmark speed without breaking a sweat in the slick cars.
I guess if you want to do the equivalent with what's left of S2, you can use the TBO cars to have some close pick-up racing. It might just attract a new crowd of drivers looking for the most realism in a package that doesn't get out of shape too easily.
You asked
and that's where there is going to be an opinion divide, because each person's answer to that depends on what they enjoy about LFS.
One other thing I noticed is that with the extra "weight" in the transmission physics, the car handling is a lot more precise around the limit. And with the clutch, well I had to back off a few laps into my first race, but as soon as I consciously went a bit gentler when slamming it into gear, the little heat slip delay went away.
To the idea of LFS-lite*, basically if you like the old LFS so much, just keep driving it?
I got a tip about Flipcams from a helpful poster in the LFS Movies forum. I haven't installed it yet, but I will use it to help me in making some edits to an onboard-cam-only movie I recently made.
+1 for helping to build the LFS community with your skills
oh, and, I read through this thread and so
+1 for being patient and supportive to help others use it. Very nice effort my friend
I do have one small question...
is there a way to copy the view files to another directory or with another name so that cams can be copied to another car? I realise the different cars have different sizes etc, but as a starting point to have already most of the view settings defined?
Use a smaller layout like Aston club or fern bay club, then put in many different cars, eg
3 UF1
2 XRT
2 FXO
2 FZ5
1 FXR
1 XRR
1 FZR
and then use a GTR class car yourself. If you are much too fast for them, use intake restriction up to 40%.
The reason for this is that after a few laps, the field gets very spread out and you begin to encounter cars to pass at almost every corner. It makes great practice because you get to use a lot of unusual lines as you drive around slower cars who are passing even slower cars.
The bad part is that a fast AI car will sometimes get 'stuck' behind a slower car and just ride the brake instead of trying to pass.
You are right. And your criticism is inspiring me...
Maybe it would be good for me to come out from behind the couch and do a little editing. Maybe no heavy metal music but at least cut out some of the longer bits without action and replace with some bumper-cam and external TV cam shots.
Because after all a fine example of what LFS offers to a racer should get more effort than just ripping and splicing 22 clips of onboard video Besides, I have succeeded some test footage using the sped-up capture to get smooth video, which is needed for external shots.
I have already spent many hours on this simple project.. it's kind of scary, the more I do it, the more I want to add. It's addictive this video-making. :camera:
Thanks for the added comment, Smokey. Glad you don't mind being caught upside down for the camera
I am thinking the stress of the moment led to some unwilling contact.. at least that's what I choose to believe Actually I think those two know each other and race a hard style like that to make it interesting but that's just speculation. Maybe Evo or Smokey would care to comment?
It's worth noting that at the end of the replay, Evo apologizes for nudging Teedot as they approach the first chicane for the 'final' time but that's racing and I believe this clip shows some of the finest action you can get.
Honestly I'm not into rock'n'roll videos that have about 60 cutscenes in 20 seconds. I mean, I envy the vision, talent and dedication that people have to make videos like that (:headbang::rock_band) I just don't share the desire to watch them over and over.
