Me too, I just watched those videos again about half an hour before I saw this. I reminded these because of what we´re talking about in this thread http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=38158 . The group B cars were awesome machines and the sound they made was pure "music" for every motosport fan, especially the Audi.
Yes, it was in the Rally of Portugal in 1986 when the Ford RS200 of portuguese driver Joaquim Santos crashed into the public killing 4 people and injuring about 30 more. In the 80´s the portuguese rally was considered the best of the world, but the behaviour of the spectators was incredible... I watched some of them, by that time, and it was completely insane what people did, staying on the road and just moving with the cars on top of them... For those who don´t know the story here´s a video about it:
We can´t say at this moment, that anyone got away with it... After all, the final results ain´t out yet, and I´m convinced that these kind of situation will deserve some kind of attention from the MOE organisers and admins....
I have to agree with this. If you treat disconnetions as DNF, you´ll need to do the same regarding accidents and getting stuck on the track, not allowing Shift+P. But that way, a race like the 24h of Aston would loose all interest because after some hours you´ll have 5 or 6 cars on the track. For example we had 2 disconnets during the race that problably cost us 2 laps, so I think we were already penalised enough. If there were times when a disconnet work as an advantage to the team, the admins can have a look at those situations and issue a time penalty in order the restore the unfair advantage that was gained.
Sorry, but I don´t understand what you´re trying to say...
Aston has been like this since the release of version T in April 2006, that's more than a year and a half!!!
First of all, I don´t "drift", don´t know how to do it, or like to watch it... But, I don´t think that the "real" drifters, the ones that are serious about it and really know how to do it, would be here complaining about Patch Y. First, because they would buy the game, so they would have more cars and more tracks to drift, instead of going months or years, round the same track with the same car. And second if they really know how to drift, they will be as happy as any of us racers that is more realistic now...
In theory you´re right, and I agree that that´s the way LFS should behave, so even if you decide not to use 1024 skins anymore, you'll still use the ones that you already have. But there should be another option, because, for example, if you´re having problems with your computer you may not want to use any 1024 skins, even if you already have them. So there should be a way that you can decide one of 3 diferent options:
- always use and download 512 skins ( even if you have 1024 skins in the skins_y folder)
- use and download 512 skins, but using 1024 skins if you have them in your skins_y folder
- always use and download 1024 skins
I´m at work so I can´t open LFS, so this is just a guess of what´s happening. You had the option to use 1024 skins enabled, so when you´re going to watch the replay it would look for the skins in the skins_y
folder. But since you change the option to use 512 skins, when you try to watch the same replay, it´ll look for the skins in the skins_x folder, and since they weren´t there, LFS downloaded the low res skins...
Like I said before this is just a guess, but I do think it has some logic considering how the skin folders are organised.
You have to understand that this has nothing to do with what you think, or what you like. LFS is a comercial product, not freeware. So the demo has to be something that will make people buy the game after they try it, and not a "complete" game they can use for free and even think they can say what should be there or not...
And now for what´s best for LFS, we have a better demo:
- 2 road cars, a FWD and a RWD, that can race against each other, and very diferent to drive, so this is the best option to learn how to drive in LFS
- instead of the XRT - that´s is nothing more than a more powerful and turbo XRG - we have a single-seater, with downforce and a sequencial gearbox. A "real" car and a again a "totally" diferent driving experience from the other 2 cars.
So if you don´t want to pay for LFS, you can allways go and "drift" with other games... But don´t forget that probably none ot them will be as good for "drifting" as LFS is, and they are not free either!!
I'm in too... Most of us will probably have to learn how to "drive" in LFS again, and forget all the bad habits we've been collecting over the time we play the game, but for me, that sure is a good thing. For those that were always complaining that nothing new happened to LFS, we may not have gotten 10 new cars and 20 new "real" tracks, but you sure got a all "new" game to play...
I have a DFP and always adjust the degrees of rotation of the wheel, to the maximum lock of the car in LFS, and I can tell that it won´t make go faster because it´s harder to drive that way, specially if you need to correct a slide ( the relative slow response of the DFP also helps in this). But, to me, it makes the driving much more fun, and now I'm so used to it, that if I change from a single-seater to a road car and forget to adjust the steering in the setup, I always crash in the first turn...
But one question still remains... If you were doing a game associated with the name Ferrari ( that by itself could sell thousands of copies), what would you do? Make it so real, that at least half the people that would try it, would realize that, just like in real life, they can´t drive a Ferrari, or make in a way that they would buy the game to keep on dreaming that, if they had the money, they could buy a Ferrari and drive it really fast?
Not an easy choice to make, if you ask me...
First of all, great work you´re doing. I really hope you can carry on with this ideia.
Good to see your report on LFS, altough I would like to point some things that you said that are not true:
- the development of LFS as nothing to do with the Intel Racing Tour. Intel asked the devs to use the sim in that event and in exchange we got the BMW Sauber in the game
- there are 3 real cars in LFS - BF1, RAC ( http://www.raceabout.fi/index2.php ) and MRT5 ( http://fsae.mcgill.ca/ ). The LX4/LX6 are not Caterham Super Seven
For those who think Bender it's not a great free software, take a look at Blender Nation http://www.blendernation.com/ or download some of the Blender Magazines http://blenderart.org/download.html ... After seeing what Blender can do, then come here and tell us "how it sucks".
