its certainly the most realistic driving game ive played so far. it would be better if it had real cars though like they have on gran turismo.

on a side note, a big mouth at uni was blabbling on about games and he blurted out that san andreas is the most realistic driving game ever lol, to which i reply'd "can you drive?" and he says "not legally". he went bright red then shut up waste of a paragraph i know.
Blocked ports on network
Dac

im using the universities LAN to connect to the internet and theyve blocked certain ports but i dont know which ones and for what purposes. one of my computer science lecturers is trying to get certain ports unblocked especially those for second life , anyways i am unable to start a online race.

so which ports need unblocking?

thanks,

Quote from The Moose :A 5 year old MS Sidewinder wheel to be precise

same here lol, awesome. i have 240 degrees i think though. and its really loose and clunky around the centre so its hard to keep the car straight.

can i ask, have you managed to seperate the throttle and brake? mine are on the same axis.

Quote from The Moose :I just watched the replay with the wheel in view and the steering wheel movement is ridiculous. I think that's because i only have a 270 degree wheel. The tiniest movement on my wheel is exaggerated hugely on the in game wheel.

Oh and i wasn't criticizing your driving btw Just offering advice Use every bit of the width of the track on corner exits.

ye, it kinda looks like a rally driving technique lol

hey no probs mate. i play sims to improve my driving so i welcome any comments/critzs

just out of interest though, ive studied that reply a few times and i counted only 2 corners where i was about a half a meter off the apex on lap 3.

if you mean using the bump strips and canvas on exits i try not to use them as much as possible because they are bumpy and upset the balance of the car.

Quote from The Moose :The first two laps were utter shite , i was trying to go flat out with no idea whatsoever of braking points etc....
I am at complete n00b level with that combo. Not driven it for at least 9 months, and hardly drove it at all then. Prob only done 20 laps of that in my life

I watched your laps. You don't use enough of the track.

yeah. well im a n00b, n00b lol. only been playing lfs for about a week or so now. i will get better though, thanks for looking at my reply

Quote from The Moose :Here's about 12 laps of BL1 in the XFG.

These are the first laps I've driven with this combo for longer than i can remember so i apologise for the scrappy nature of some of them.
Unmodded Race_S feels horrible with this car

I'm not sure this will teach you anything tbh.

They are mostly 1.36's and a couple in the 1.35's

I'll put together some better, more consistent laps for you tomorrow, with the XRG as well.

only watched the first 2 laps, id say the driving was 6-7/10 at best. lots of yawing the wheel midway through the corners and sliding....eek. but your lap times are very very good with the standard setup.

this was done with standard set up, except the colour scheme. tell me what you think;

problems with fraps
Dac
S2 licensed
hi, big problems with fraps. it records the whole reply but after i close lfs to view it fraps goes all crazy and turns the 4gb file into the last 20 seconds or so of my last lap. then it says stuff about it still being in operation and memory load dump or whatever.

my original intention was to ask for comments on my driving but i need it put into a movie first.

so how do i upload the .spr file?

thanks,

ive not read the whole thread so apologies if this has already been said. but for the major components they could just be weighed individually, all dealerships will have parts redily available or better still be even to tell you the weight over the phone. then just place where they are on the car roughly for the centre of gravity.

it is entirely plausable that one could recreate the same movements with a mouse. i dont think anybody has ever tried this in a real car though so its not been disproven.

Quote from tristancliffe :Car Porn + Screenshots = GT5
Handling, Physics and Realism = LFS

Unfortunately, GT5 is utter poo for the latter.

i hear that. i used to think it was the bees knees of realism till i played WTCC. then i found LFS and my word. GT4 feels like Ridge Racer in comparison

Quote from danowat :The short answer is yes it is.

The long answer is, it's not "realistic" per say, but it's about as realistic as you can get currently, and it's the most realistic out of all it's peers

thats what i like to hear

ive been struggling to find a decent racing simulator for a while. im a GT veteran and a bit miffed i cant afford a PS3 for GT5. the only other game i play/played is WTCC 06.

so how does this compare do you think to GT5 prologue?

ah ok, thanks. ye im new and so will probableys have the new version anyways. btw i cant go online, im on a university network and they ban certain ports. if anybody konws how to get around this id appreciate it
new versions

how does this work, when the LFS developers have made the improvments do we just download the new version and use our existing code?

if so, how often do the new versions come out?

thanks,

why dont you try it in your car? tbh i think its very realistic. the only thing that i feel is a problem is the shear lack of speed sensation in games. meaning when your in a car it feels much faster, not sure if its because of the real danger though.
Sidewinder Precision Pro - seperated but brake is on/off
Dac

ive got the 4.0 software installed and in the menu everything is working correctly. however in LFS every thing works perfect except the brake pedal is treated as an on/off switch. if i try hard i can get it to display at ~40% but thats about a 2mm depressed and completely unusable.

obviously in game even slightly touching the pedal and the wheels lock up. help please

Quote from mulberrycrush :This is exactly my problem and wheel.

Thanks for posting.

There are no new drivers for these wheels. Vista and XP have them in as default.

you need these drivers http://rapidshare.com/files/3040815/MS_SW.zip.html

the only problem now is that they seperate the pedals, and you can see they are on axis in the sidewinder properties menu. but on LFS it treats the brake pedal as on/off for some reason.
Dac

its good now. last problem, i cant seem to find the drivers for this wheel. so i have to combine the throttle and brake as one. which you can understand is annoying. so anybody got drivers for a sidewinder without FF. im in the process of getting a new wheel though.
