Quote from danowat :Who cares if the content is real, doesn't make the racing any better

Bingo. I dont need to know I am driving a licensed ferrari, porsche or mercedes to enjoy my racing. Thats what NFS & TDU are for. Driving carsr modeled and designed in a similar vein is good enuff.

Plus who wants to pay for the licensing fees required to get real makes/locations in the game?

Quote from tristancliffe :Anyone (and I mean anyone) who uses a blue flag message in game is a bad driver, and does not deserve to be racing.

Amen to that brother.

Usually replying that blue flag spammers are wussies will shut em up.

Quote from MataGyula :As you mentioned, at some place there's some stuttering, you need to make something 'bout that :P
Imho the "intro" was a little long ( the part with the "rocky music" :P ) . Loved the part when the FZR went flying, really good camera angles there.
Other than that, there wer no really outstanding moments. It's a well made video, for Your first try , so keep 'em coming ! =]

Thanks for the comments matagyula. I think i can improve on the actual capture process and once I can work vdub properly so i can use the clips in pinnacle, it should be better.

The "intro" wasnt really an "intro" to speak of. More like a story of a guy dreaming his fz50 from a road car, into the fzr race car. It probably wasn't told so well, but meh, next time.ShrugBig grin

Here is my first attempt at a movie.

http://rapidshare.com/files/31114002/lfs_movie.avi

New mirror: http://www.mediafire.com/?ffsmx91w9ms

OR NOW WITH YOUTUBE GOODNESS:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5aaHGCy578

It is approx. 3m20s in length (640x480, ~50mb, DivX)

There are very very limited special effects in this movie, in fact only two types were used in the whole thing. I did this for a reason. I wanted to see what sort of reaction I can get without using the fancy effects.

It "only" took me about a week and a half to make it (I was planning on one night!!!).

The video is a little bit choppy in some places, but I will improve on this as time goes on.

I think its a good fast paced high energy video, no orchestral music here.

Comments please, good or bad!!

Cheers.Smile

Does anyone use pinnacle studio in their editing? If so, can you use the avi files that fraps writes in Studio? I get the audio, but no picture. I can convert it to MPEG4 with virtual dub but then the resulting file is choppy and crap. The fraps avi's are pretty smooth so just want to try and do away with the compression until rendering time.

Any ideas?

Quote from Mike85 :This stutter shouldn't even be here. I dont know any other racing game that does that. Why LFS? The game is too "fragile". If its because of skin downloading, then I suggest we upload all the skins to the master server because theres 1000s of them.

I dont think thats a game related problem, I rarely get stutter, and when I mean rarely, it is rare. I found it started to become a little more frequent lately, but it all cleared up when i defragged my drive.

I have never noticed stutter upon connections during races or whatever.......

Socks for me all the way!!

I got speshul padded bottom socks so its real nice. I tried barefoot a couple of nights ago, but almost got a blister on me accelerator foot due to the ridges on the DFP pedals (yea i got weak wimpy soles).

Personally speaking, from my interpretation of all blue flag type rules is that if you get a blue flag it DOES NOT mean you have to pull over IMMEDIATELY and let the person behind you pass.

There are many racers out there who will abuse you and carry on like a pork chop spamming the text msgs with things like BLUE FLAG MOVE OVER etc etc when they think they are close enough.

If I get a blue flag and I am approaching, or in the middle of, a corner or a chicane I dont immediately move over as this is quite silly and dangerous as I could spin and end up crashing. I wait until it is safe to do so (like on a straight).

The other thing is, blue flag does not mean surrender your position which a lot of people seem to think it means. If I am in the middle of a race and I get a blue flag from the position behind me, I will not surrender that position without a fight. If I did, why bother even racing? If they end up passing me, well done, good pass, on we go. If I was a lapped competitor, well thats different, and I will move over when safe to do so. Often I will take a line off the normal racing line if I am slower and I know the faster cars are coming even before the blue flag appears (by checking mirrors) so they can get around me fairly quickly.

In real racing there are TWO blue flags. When held stationary it means there is a car close to you, when waved, it means somewhen is attempting to overtake you. I can't remember the bit where it says "when you get a blue flag - get the hell off the track NOOB"

The dude in the Ferrari putting it into the wall is definately, unfortunately, Australian.

It happened at Eastern Creek raceway in Western Sydney, during the "Powerskid" contest (seeing how long you could pull a burnout from a standstill WITHOUT using your brakes) which was a part of the Powercruise event. It was a couple of years ago though. I heard a rumour it was a Ferrari dealer that was driving but that is totally not confirmed.

Check this video, it's the same one, but with footage of two cars showing how it should be done at the start, then the ferrari dude.

First car is an EH Holden from about 1963ish, second is a Holden Commodore ute. Both with big freakin superchargers hanging off em.

My 2c is this:

I try most racing sims that I can play on my crappy PC, but I always come back to LFS. The main thing I think for me, is the multiplayer experience. It is just awesome. When I first downloaded the demo, way back in 2003 or even earlier, I couldn't believe the immersive feel of the driving model compared to anything else available at the time.

Even now, I compare other models to LFS. Graphics and sound are all very well for some, but for me, I've played plenty of pretty games with awesome sound, but if the car doesn't feel like a car, it doesn't last long on my play list.

Are you capturing at a slower than normal rate? This will help your pc performance.

Run your replay at half speed, and capture at 12fps instead of 24fps. Then, when it is played back at normal speed (24fps) it all plays, well, normal. It means your PC has more time to process and capture each frame (not slowing it so much).

At least thats how I think it works........

Quote from Bob Smith : However, hybrids heat up much more easily. On the rear of the UF1 and XFG, road normal tyres lose a little grip due to being cold. The hybrids warm up nicely without overheating, so offer more grip because of this. Hence the speed benefit. It also helps stop the car from oversteering.

I would definitely agree with this. The first time I saw the hybrids on a road track my first thought was that it must be because they heat up faster. Just try putting hybrids on the rear of a RWD car (such as XRT) and see how much easier it is to rip a burnout over having road tyres on.

I would say the benefit of the hybrids would detoriate over a longer race as they could easily overheat, and it would depend on the track and driving style too. I have tried them, and use it for short 4 or 5 lap races, longer races, I go back to normal road tyres.

Quote from DanneIce :Who in tha hell wants a electric "car" in real life?
I mean there are just bad things with it.
1. No Petrol
2. No real engine sound
3. Its doesent smell anything. Gasoline smells good
4. A real car must have 5 cylinders or more.
5. How in tha hell can you do a real burnout with an Electric "car"?
6. Can you do long jurneys with it? I donk think so!!
ect ect...

But in a car game it could be great.

I will never buy an elecric "car". Its just craxy Americans who will drive those "cars".

HELLO!?!

Torque, baby Torque! Electric equals loads of torque!

And I've seen many an electric car do plenty good burnouts.

Quote from KanseiDneova :Also, about that Jabroc plank on the bottom of the F1 cars, I think they should be fastened to the car with giant titanium bolts, so they will scrape all over the place, and make some pretty sparks.

Cheers,
Matt.

Isn't that one of the reasons they switched from titanium plates to the wood-type ones? To stop the sparks from flying all over the place?

Especially on your bumpier road circuits (take a look at some old Adelaide F1GP footage and you see what i mean).

Probably deemed a "fire hazard" or somethign.
