Hi all, recently upgraded from an early 2000s P4 3.6ghz based machine to a slightly more modern quad core machine, full specs are...
Win 10 home x64
Q9650 cpu 3.0ghz
8gb DDR2-800 samsung RAM
512mb HD5450 GPU
750w silent cooling PSU
I know my GPU is far from good, but this very card in my old p4 machine i mentioned (that only had 3.0gb ram and a weaker PSU) used to give me around 60 fps with all graphics settings at about half way, it used to bottleneck quite badly with lots of cars on turn 1 etc but still OK, hell, my agp hd2600 pro in my previous p4 2.53 could manage early 40s with modest settings!
but with this build, i can get around 20 fps, if that, regardless of whether i have the graphics settings on minimum, half, full, etc, barely 5 fps difference between lowest and highest settings, 1 car alone or a 20 car grid makes no difference to fps at all, all my GPU drivers are all up to date and everything, running LFS in win7 compatibility mode doesnt help.
i have tried the usual v sync on or off option which made no difference, 16/32 bit resolution also has no effect, i have an old monitor though so am limited to 1280x1024 anyway, however, the only thing that gives me 90 odd FPS with a full grid and all graphics settings on full is if i run in windowed mode but with it maximised, the problem is only with full screen mode for some odd reason.
this is an average reading using 4 scenarios with a full grid, cockpit mode, SO long...
maximised with full graphics ~95 fps
maximised with minimal graphics ~180 fps
full screen with full graphics ~ 16 fps
full screen with minimal graphics ~ 22 fps
I did have a search to find an answer but to no avail, so has anyone else encountered this issue with full screen mode?
I'm unsure of how it all works as I say but my mate swears his games well within the leagues of an I5, admittedly he is running a modest overclock though, as I also will be as well, it'll still be a heck of a lot better than I've ever been used to be for that's for sure, as my comp history is... 486dx266, p3 866, p4 1.9, p4 2.53, p4 2.8 and now p4 3.6, never anything good, so in comparison this will be nuts haha
Cheers guys, although to be honest I don't really game anymore, and for the initial outlay, which will basically be the CPU cooler and a mobo, I'm going to have something with significantly more guts than the single core P4 I have at the moment, I don't really know how it all works but my friend swears that his build, which has a smaller CPU than my chosen one can beat i3s and keep with i5s so that'll be more than I'll ever need, even if I can only maintain an OC of say 4ghz stable, that's going to give me 16ghz of speed in comparison to the 3.6 I have at the moment, plus A far better cache, and presuming I do get extra ram I'll see gains there, what I basically want is to be able to encode say an hour of music in 320k MP3 format and it not take nearly 20 minutes to save lol.
Hi all, I am finally going to upgrade from my HP dc5100 sff machine, as its up to its limits and can't really cut it anymore, I was going to go for all new, probably an i3 or mid range i5 chip, new board that supports ddr3 etc, but after a convo with one of my mates he said why not build a core2quad based system, he has done so, and it's quick, it can hold its own against a more modern i3 or lower end i5 system pretty well, admittedly his is overclocked to about 3.5ghz from the standard 2.83 (his machine has the Q9500 CPU) and the whole thing cost him about 100 pounds to build, I've decided to do the same and use the following parts.
an Intel DQ45CB motherboard, a Q9650 CPU (the fastest one the board can support) a good cooling system (with good cooling my friend reckons I could run an OC at 4ghz no problem) and then use an existing dell dimension 3000 case I've got (standard micro ATX) the existing 500gb sata HDD, the 4GB of DDR2 800 (4x1gb) ram and the hd5450 gpu I already have in my current machine, plus I have a 500w micro ATX PSU at my parents from another machine as well, so I can realistically build this for less than 100 pounds, I've found the mobo for about 20 quid, and the CPU for just under 60, I may go up to 4x4gb ram at a later date so it's maxed out but even with that added to the costs its still much cheaper than buying an entry level celeron PC off the shelf, and several times cheaper than an i5 based machine.
I can't really see any down sides to this plan, sure I'm still working with (at least) 5 or 6 year old tech but for something quick ish and being on a budget this seems to fit the bill.
Am I correct or is there some massive flaw in my plan that I haven't spotted?
I'm utterly shocked that my circa 2005 hp dc5100 pentium 4 machine is compatible with this, but I checked it from within the menu you get if you click the taskbar icon and it's fully compatible apparently.
One of my best mates was beaten up quite badly last weekend in Cambridge, he was a bit of a lad back a few years ago, one of those that your parents would probably tell you to keep away from as a youngster, he hadn't fallen in with the wrong crowd, tbh he was probably one of the leaders of it lol, so hearing that he'd been in a rumble wasn't really a surprise, despite him turning things around and being a lot less of a bad boy he still had enemy's probably, and all we thought was well I bet the other guy has come off just as bad, but regardless of any of that he would do anything for a friend in need, or even if they weren't a friend, if he was around and a total stranger was in trouble he'd always help if he could, he's just that type of guy, with a heart of gold.
More info then emerged that he was actually very badly hurt, he had been found unresponsive at the side of the road by a passer by and was revived by the ambulance crew, rushed into theatre and had an operation to remove skull fragments from his brain, and that until he'd come out of the medically induced coma there was no way to know how badly he would be affected as they didn't know how long he was without oxygen for.
On Thursday evening his sister contacted us to say that it was far worse than we all thought, and despite the hospitals best efforts he was showing no brain activity at all, in essence he was already gone, and that in accordance with his wishes as an organ donor, the life support machine was to be turned off at midnight, and he very sadly passed away shortly after.
A lot of sadness, and a lot of anger too, sad because he has gone, and anger towards whoever did this to him, let's hope these bastards are brought to justice, because despite his past, he was a loving and kind hearted man with as I said, a real heart of gold, and he will be very deeply missed, my other half was also very close to him, as was I, and our 11 month old sons little face used to light up when uncle Jeff came round, i still can't believe it.
I have tried all tracks and all weather conditions and the problem is still there, taking the car shine down in the cfg file all the way down to 0.7 hasnt made any difference, heres a few screenies...
No I do not have any add on textures or anything like that as I only reinstalled my os a couple of months ago so it's essentially a clean install of LFS.
I'm yet to try other configs or weather settings, I will try and report back
I just had a blast on my nearly 10 year old machine and it runs beautifully
However, for some reason im getting a strange OTT bright reflection off the car, it didnt do so in 0.6F so i can only assume its something in the update thats causing it, i have attached a screenshot of what i mean.
System specs if needed are, intel 521 p4 2.8ghz, 4gb ram, win7 x64 ultimate, radeon hd5450 512mb GPU
They've gone already I think, it had standards in when I had it and one of the few owners before my mate got it back has fitted them but also left the originals with the car, the standard lights did have aftermarket angel eye rings fitted to them but they were as similar to a standard look as you could get, not the tarty max power style blingy ones lol
After I very sadly had to part with my pride and joy e36 328i sport coupe about 2 years ago, it's been sold on and on, used, abused, broken, but by a twist of fate the guy I originally sold it to now has it back, it's currently got a new m52 engine ready to go in, an m3 diff is on it's way, as are US spec m3 cams, lightened pulleys, a new vanos unit, enlarged throttle body and an m50 manifold, then it's going for a remap and should be well in 250bhp territory
Yes it is pretty old, it's a hitachi sr 1100 which is circa mid 70s, I'll shoot over to my former workplace and borrow the PAT tester and bench, and see what it comes up with, thanks
Yes a standard set of PC speakers, and also the built in monitor speakers work absolutely fine off the output of either machine, one is an HP 09e8h motherboard which is obviously an intel on board sound setup, not sure which chipset it is but it's an intel and uses the ac97 driver, and the other PC has an Asus a8v-vm-SE board which is again an inbuilt sound card, and I'm using the green speaker output of each machine.
I have used this amp with the former PC in the past, the only difference being that I had everything, PC, TV, tape deck, CD player and 2x turntables all on their own channel of my 6 channel mixer, so all i can think is that having that piece of hardware in the chain did something that prevented this behaviour.
There are no shorts of any kind that I can see and the leads in question are also tried and tested, as it's the same one that I have tested all the available amp inputs with using my phones output.
Hi everyone, I've got my old solid state hitachi amp out to use, all speakers are hooked up and it all works, well, the radio does, as does an external output connected, as when I connect my phone to it using an RCA to mini jack lead it works fine on either phono aux or tape monitor depending on which RCA connection I've put the lead into,
but, as soon as I connect that same mini jack plug into either one of the PCs speaker outputs, (which is the whole reason that I want the amp for in the first place) the second i turn the amp on it trips the breaker in the fuse box, which takes all the electricity out.
I have tried a replacement lead and have tested on all three amp inputs as mentioned above, and with 2 different computers but with no joy.
I was under the impression that the usual speaker output on the back of a PC can simply go to any amp and be perfectly fine, as that's what I've done in the past, yet this amp is having none of it.
Being someone who's in and around various setups regularly as an MC id have to say that the DDJ wins hands down, pioneer gear really is the best in the business, and is as you probably know industry standard, maybe not DDJs per se, most clubs have CDJ 1000's at least, if not 2000's, and if you're intending on getting into this to the point of maybe playing out some time then going with pioneer would be sensible, as you'll be confident on equipment which will be essentially the same when you arrive at a venue. Theres nothing worse than learning to a decent standard on something then going to play out and its all different. For me, plugging into anything other than a DDJ all in one or a DJM series mixer causes me problems, mainly because i know where the mic gain and bass/treble controls are from below, backwards and in bad light, anything else and im having to ask a busy DJ to sort the mic out from the stage in the early moments of a set because i cant find any of the bloody controls to do it myself
Not exactly in mint condition or sporty in any way being the pre HDi 2.1 TD, but its a decent sized practical and fairly economical car that goes well and will be fine to house a baby seat for when little one is born with ample boot space for prams etc, much more suitable than something like a fiesta or a corsa punto etc would, plus at a buying price of £250 with 11 months MOT on you really cant grumble.
