Quote from ajp71 :IRL you simply couldn't kerb the FOX like you have to be fast at Fern Bay. Modern racing cars are designed to take kerbs, but only some kerbs can be taken, if you look at the lap of the Radical SR8, a car completely capable of taking normal kerbs, at the 'ring he doesn't touch a single kerb, this is because the kerbs there, like some of the nasty ones in LFS are quite simply like pulling a car onto the pavement at 150 mph (which you would do would you ). Road cars and older racing cars are even more likely to fall to pieces when you touch a kerb.

Yeah, I agree real cars are a little more fragile than lfs cars, but..

I had a race on Blackwood GP. 22 laps with FOX. But after about 18 laps, I noticed my suspension had bend! I could still drive, but it was very tricky.

And a few days ago, I was in a fight with someone, also FOX, on Aston National. And at the hairpin he braked a bit early, I braked a bit late. So in the corner we hit eachother, but it seemed everything was still ok, no damage. But the next corner we both wanted to turn in, but we just spinned because we both had broken suspensions.

So LFS is still quite realistic.

Quote from trackah123 :if you use adobe premiere.. then there is alot of nice plugins to check on the internet..

i made my back to the future movies with "borix fx continuum 3 plugin pack"

its good to have plugins

I think it's better to look for a plugin if I really need it. So I first decide what I want, and then see how I can make it.

If you download a plug-in pack, you want to try them all, and you get those preset-looks. And that doesn't look very professional.

Quote from tristancliffe :Don't you have to force Premiere to use square pixels with stuff like fraps outputs? That way allows me to make a widescreen project (like 2:1) but without distorting the LFS footage in the background

Stupid me! I didn't put it on square pixels. Don even said it... Hehe, thanks Tristan.

But I'll just make it 640*480 now. If I make it higher res, I will have to resize it for the download, later, but that won't be very good quality I'm afraid. 640*480 is most easy to work with too, although 800*600 wasn't really a problem (system is fast enough).

EDIT: cool, it works perfect now! It looks really amazing, exported uncompressed!

Hmm..

I got that TopGear-thing working now. But the resolution is not right.

I set it to 640*480 in Premiere. Imported a 640*480 clip. But when I exported it, I got a wider screen, with a bar at the top and the bottom of the screen.

The actual resolution of the video is now 640*434. So it's still 4:3 instead of 6:5.

Wow, fast replies. Thanks SaM and Don.

Quote from (SaM) :When you make a new project in Premiere, where you have to enter a title, press the custom tab and choose video for windows. There you can select the desired project video resolution. 800x600 is huge though, are you sure?

Well, if I knew how to record it as standard DVD resolution I would use that. And I don't want crappy quality.
But maybe you're right. 800*600 is very nice to watch maybe, but if I do 640*480 it will be better for people to download.

Quote from (SaM) :
And the darkened edges, yeah, I love those, gives movies an authentic look and I decided to find out how to make those myself watching Top Gear as well.
All you gotta do is choose the Image Matte Key effect in the Keying folder. Then you select wich matte image to use. (use one I made or make your own in Photoshop). Then select Matte luma instead of Matte Alpha.
If you dont know how to make your own matte image, just ask. I assume you do.

Ah, great. I already wanted to use this in my previous movie. I found a plugin for VirtualDub, but that wasn't with alpha layering, but just a normal layer, so you say the white part as well. Creating an image won't be a problem, but thanks.

Hi,

I got a few questions;

I recorded some clips, with the resolution of 800 * 600 (6:5). But when I load them into Adobe Premiere, it makes it 720 * 480 (4:3). :/

How can I make Premiere export the clips as 800*600, or at least 6:5?

Oh, and same for FPS. In LFS I record the movies in 20fps. Then I change it to 40 in VirtualDub. But when I load it in Premiere, it makes it 30. :/

Next question;

You probably all know the TV-show TopGear. It uses filters, which makes the corners (and the sky, but this is not very important for me) black.

Like this:

How can I make something simular to that?

I use Virtual Dub and Adobe Premiere.

Thanks.

LOL!

Just looked in LFS, under Options > Graphics. There it says "Hardware Vertex Shadows", that was OFF. But when I put in ON, and then restart LFS, it all just works fine!!

Did a race, with ALL the AI cars. And the FPS didn't came under 30 FPS.

So, SID135, try to set that on ON! Maybe that works.

Now I only need to solve the Media Player issue, but I think that's just has do with Media Player itself then.

Thanks for al the help guys!

Quote from Brikkah :I had a RIVA TNT2 32mb in my pc, replaced it with a Geforce 5200 128mb, i didn't get any difference in fps too. Maybe reinstall video drivers and lfs ?

Stil have my TNT2 now

I already reinstalled it, but no difference.

I also noticed I can't play a video. At least nog in Media Player, the whole system hangs when I try to play a video.

Quote from joshdifabio :10 ai cars? AIs always make the game run slow depending on the speed of your processor. Did it used to run at 20fps with 10 AIs or with 10 people online?

There's no difference. I got a P4 3ghz, so it should work fine..

@ OPK, yes I did.
New videocard: very low fps [not a bug]

Monday my GeForce 4 gave up. Always had a lot of fun, and LFS worked fine (about 20 fps at the start, and when not more than 3 cars or so where in sight, I had about 55 frames, limited).

So, today I bought a GeForce 6600 GT (128 MB, AGP). But LFS doesn't seem to like it. At the start (10 ai cars) I had 8 sometimes 7 fps! And it didn't go above 20 fps even if it where just a few cars, with exactly the same settings I had with my GeForce 4.

I tried other games too, but they just worked fine, great speed, great graphics.

Anyone knows how to fix this? It's almost impossible to drive this way.

Usually I'm quite fast. But if you brake very late, I'll hit someone. If I brake very early, someone else will hit me. :/

When I'm on pole I try to brake as late as I can. But still 50% of the time someone manages to hit me.. I don't get it.

Quote from Cropsy :The GTR's are hard to race, mainly because of the cars different strengths and weaknesses of each of them. The FXR is fast off the start but slow on straights, the XRR is slow off the start but quick and the straights and the FZR is good all round.

With the FZR you have to brake earlier than the other two GTR's (which is a big problem on AS Nat in the first corner).

Quote from kamkorPL :That's why i suggested you one thing up there. The smoothing(view smoothing that is) will make your mouse moves more smooth. You should also try to not stop moving your mouse, even if those will be minimal movements. Up to you now if you take this suggestion for your next movie or not.

Ok, ok. I didn't say I wouldn't use comments at a next movie. I will, definately.

Haha, and yes I'm 18 now. Thanks.

@ BBO@BSR, I'll edit the FP.

Thanks for the reply's guys.

Quote from kamkorPL :You didn't get what I mean by camera smoothing I think. When you move it from left to right and so on, it looks like its moved by a mouse and not by a human hand.

Yeah, now I see what you mean. But the problem is that I díd used a mouse, so it's quite difficult to immitate a human hand.

Quote from StanleyCarter :Nice editing, one thing I don't like is that the beginning of the movie tends to be "dragging" too long, at one point I thought my speakers aren't working.

Anyways, the style is unique and refreshing, I'd give it a 4/5.

Beginning is a bit too long, I agree, but it wouldn't really fit if I hadn't done that (with the music and stuff)

Quote from deggis :Fantastic editing and very TV-like scenes. In the other hand I didn't like the stunts and other "funny looking" sequences, they didn't fit because the music was so dramatic. But great movie anyway.

Also it would have made more real life-look to the movie if you had used more than one skin on the cars.

Well, I didn't find the music thát dramatic. I used those jumps because that's the feeling I got when I hear the climax of the track, like you're flying.

And I used the same skin as a "theme".

The movie isn't made to show what LFS is, but more how LFS could be.

Just a different approach.

Ah thanks for the reply's guys!

Quote from kamkorPL :"Anyone else?" - Yes, me please. I think the movie was very good, I'm not sure if everyone will enjoy its style, but to me it is a 4.5(voted 5) one on movies pit.

And now a few suggestions,

You should use more camera smoothing on 'track side cameras'. You should also use less of blackwood, too much of the chicane I tell you. And a few not so important things.

I used Blackwood so much because it is thé LFS circuit, it's the most detailed and stuff. The camera is a bit shaky sometimes, but that's the style. I don't like perfect camera's with the cars 100% centered al the time. And for the not important things: check out the beginning. There's a real buildup in the movie (just like in the music).

Hey, thanks!

I made a thread for it. You can found it here:

http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=741

Actually it's my first official LFS movie. Made one before, but very sloppy, with info in the screen etc. But glad you like it.

EDIT:

Small mistake in the discription.txt (my fault), it says: "Music : Sigur Rós -", but that needs to be: "Music : Sigur Rós - Viðrar Vel Til Loftárása".

It has cost me some time, but here it is. My first official Live For Speed movie! I used a lot of effects in this, but not too much, to make it look a bit professional. Anyway, it's more that 10 mins long and for more info see the discription.txt, included in the .zip.
