Seat have also just pulled out of South African motorsport, announcing this week the withdrawl of their 2 cars in the South African Production Car series.
Wonder how much longer they'll be involved in WTCC
bwahahaha... that is incredibly funny i must admit! im having quite a laugh. Be nice guys...
Scotty --> its the baby FBM which means that u choose the FBM and then add an air intake restriction of 45%.
You'll then see that the car is like that UF thing, only slower!!!
bwahahaha... With Josephs antics, i would rather have had him drive into me AGAIN, cause at least that would've meant that he would actually have been there to do his job...
Thats great going... ive just tried to match u and the best i could do was a 57.7 but i ran wide and onto dirt on that lap, did a 30.3 1st sector (dunno if thats any good) but i reckon i only lost 1/10 or so.
The i tried a full race distance with race fuel (obvously) and 15kg ballast. my best lap was a 58.24 on lap 16...
I then got bored and decided to watch the motogp on about lap 19 or so...
Do think the tyres will last, i just wrecked mine by continuelly locking up the fronts!
Lol... what a rubbish thing to drive. the racing is gonna be awesomely close!!!
Not a bad set that you've posted. i tweaked one of my old sets and did a 58.28. Set will probably do 32 laps the way it is... might even have to soften the pressures a bit to last!
I think the ballast is gonna be HUGE at this place cause of the restriction!!!
I managed to do consistant 48's in testing, and low 49 race pace...
only to get to qualifyiung and get reminded half way thru that my ballast was actually 15kg and not 13kg. So i got docked the lap, as well as a 1 grid slot penalty for race1.
Got a horrible start to race one. going into the hairpin i bumped D. Novak into a spin. I then waited for him to regain track and repass me. and in the process, dropping to about 13th. i then struggled to get back up to pace and slowly got up to about 11th. then the nonesense happened which brought the safety car out and i found myself in 6th :-)
Some awesome last few laps and i think i ended up 4th.
Then heat 2, another crap start. but i somehow managed to avoid the rubbish in the hairpin, despite a slight bump.
The dice that happened after that between C.Ford and myself (for P3) was UNBELIEVABLE. I just watched the replay and sat there laughing. ONE OF THE BEST DICES EVER!!!!!!!! ask greybull, he had prime seats, almost got involved at one stage!!!
Anywayz, i managed to hold him off and finish P3.
Thanks for the awesome to races!!!!
P.S. Well done to both heat winners!!! had it not been for my lag, i wouldve loved to be up front with u! Maybe next time!
I like the idea of racing earlier... we could even make it an hour earlier than that for ALL the remaining races... At least then we can attned to our social lives!
hmmm, Dont think its possible to get those R1's to work for a full race distance, besides, once the R2's are up to temp, they are only a touch slower than R1's in quali set :-)
Low 48's to mid 48's (1m48) in quali will put u at the front i reckon. Race pace, ja, work on it
As for sector times... first sector, also between low to mid 48sec mark. second sector... oh ja, there is none!
I agree T1 is awesome, i ve done so many race runs with just a touch on the brakes, that i cant convince my foot to not touch the brakes on a quali run even though it should just be a little lift.
I think im running about 0.6+ at the front. Also getting pretty uneven tyre wear thru the race. (the outside is still blue) But ive found you have to reduce camber dramatically to get even wear, but then you are no where through T1 and the final corner. which are the 2 most important corners on the track!
Lol... his set does turn very well! But i managed to get within a ball park of his time. and im pretty useless at setting up a car in LFS if it takes more than camber and pressure adjustments.
Ive got round 8 of our S.A production car this weekend so i probably wont do any prac over the weekend, maybe sunday night?
I tried to get on the server last night but couldnt find it for some reason. If all else fails, we can always use the S.A. server which seems incredibly quiet of late (other than on race/prac nights!)
Just out of curiosity, why would you want to do that?
Most modern race cars, or even non modern ones, with a half decent logger (dash) can show you lap times/best split/ forecast laptime/ whether you're faster at a point etc... provided the circuit has a magnetic strip splitting it into sectors???
hmmm... ill be open about it in the hope to spur other people on because its possible...
So here goes... in quali trim no ballast --> i have an online pb at 48.1 but a more average lap is a low 48. With ballast in, the best i have managed is a 1m48.77 (and that was a balls to the walls lap)!
Anywayz, race pace. without ballast... fastest lap on lap 7 --> 1m 48.84,
slowest lap --> 1m49.4 (excluding standing start lap).
However, things arent that rosy with ballast --> fastest lap = 1m49.2 and slowest was lap 2 at 1m50.02.
Im running 22% fuel and its safe!
Im also seriously struggling with speed due to the super LOW pressures that you have to run to get the R2's to heat up. I also played around alot with cambers, and although reducing them for race distance, i have found that less camber on the right hand side doesnt hurt too bad, relative to the left. But on average im do2n 2km/h cause of pressures and 1-2 km/h cause of ballast. i expect ballast to be worth 0.4 in quali, and about 0.5 in the race...
What you guys think.
Im not against the idea of helping out during some of the free pracs if anyone keen.
Thats not too bad. I managed a 47.7 other night offline. but that was with no ballast at all! But running at that pace, will only managed 2-3 laps. with a big fall off to the hi 49's.
Im also gonna have to severley tweak the set to last race distance. Think i was running 4/5 as well... the traction out of the 2 hairpin type corners is a real struggle. i changed my line, went in real slow and tryied to square the corner off which made a huge diff (matched WR thru 2 corners) but i still spin every 4 laps :-)
Also finding the last corners (chicane section) pretty tricky. watch the WR and see his line... its awesome fast, but pretty darn difficult!
Y&eah, thanks to deko and joesph... nice job as always!
It was a fairly easy win for me which i was quite surprised about. i made it a lil more interesting than it shouldve been by spinning on lap 11. but nonetheless, good going to everyone. we defnitely have to work on improving the grids... so yeah, please lets spam all non shows!!!
I have spent a bit of time playing around and found the following:
Softer pressures cause the entire tyre to heat up quicker (core and surface). I went dramatically softer and both the core and surface increased in temperature very quickly!!! but def didnt last.
Going harder kept the core cooler for longer, but also gave me more life out of the tyre!
A smoother driving style also helped to control the surface temperatures which kinda goes without saying!
Lol... sorry man :-) I was just trying to join in the fun!
I really managed to find a neat race and quali set. Ive had time for this event to try things unlike the previous 2 events. Just managed to make the ballast work for me i guess. But who knows, race day is always a different story!
If only it were as simple as that... Last year i won the South African sports car championship... We ran on goodyear slicks (13 inch width on the rear). My race engineer believed the same thing you say above, and we found this to be true.
This year however, im racing production cars (sa version of touring cars just about) on bridgestone semi slicks. one of the engineers (working mainly with the formula vws - on avon slicks), who is an ex Rotax max World Champion believes the opposite.
But, im trying not to get into that debate, what im more interested in is generating more core temperature using tyre pressures, as my set at the moment, is only generating surface temperature. going to a different tyre compound doesnt help because the tyre only lasts a few laps.
Ive read thru quite a couple tyre temperature discussions (real life vs LFS etc).
But here's my problem... im messing around with a set to use for a 30 lap enduro around aston north. (FXR) I managed to get a develope a pretty neat quali set but am struggle with race set. the problem i have is that i am able to generate surface heat but not core heat.
I dont have much time on my hands at the mo so if anyone has an idea how i can play around with tyre pressures to generate less surface heat, but more core heat, please let me know.
Real life experience tells me that increasing pressures will create heat quicker but tyre wont last longer. and softer pressures will generate heat over longer distance but preserve tyre?!?! but then again, ive heard ppl argue the exact opposite, so i was wondering if someone could help me with regards to what works in LFS.
Or am i perhaps not going to solve this problem using temps?
I am trying to analyze some laps using f1perview. I have created the "smx" folder and downloaded the files, however, i still cant get the detailed track map using f1perview...
