Quote from peterules :Mate, I've been playig LFS for some time now and was looking a some teams to join, after a few applications and no response i got fed up with asking!

Lol... yeah, i have seen a bit of that too...

However, im not asking to be in a team (i dont think i have nearly enough time on hand that being in a team would require due to my own racing commitments).

I posted this thread more to understand how deep this sim racing thing can go.

LET ME STATE THIS... THIS IS NOT AN APPLICATION TO JOIN A TEAM!!!

Good luck with your team though! it sounds like its gonna be a fun one!
Team advice (This is not a team request thread!!!)

**PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT A TEAM REQUEST THREAD, NOR IS IT THE PURPOSE OF THE THREAD!**

Hey everyone,

So im relatively new at LFS, loving it! i've been squizzing thru this teams section for quite a while now. and from what ive read, it seems best to join a team after a year or so, once youve kinda grounded yourself with a good foundation etc. however, it does appear that this is what everyone says, but not what actually goes on. I've been racing mainly on CTRA servers and find that just about everyone has a team tag...

So, im asking. Is it worthwhile joining a team? what are the benefit, other than the friends you make? Do teams race against each other on specific nights?

I race cars in SA for a living, and firmly believe, that you can keep your "eye in" using sims. Based on this, im sure being part of a team could be an additional benefit of sim racing. ( in addition to learning to set your car up without relying heavily on your race engineer.)

Anywayz, ive now forgotten what my question was originally... but id be keen to see the debate. I think it might be a more realistic discussion if posted here, because most people reading this section are pretty serious about their sims... i assume :-)

fluctating FPS

S2 licensed
Hi... I have no idea why, but my fps fluctuate between 60 and 120 during a single lap (south city sprint 2). has anyone got any ideas what could fix this, or any possible reasons...

thanks

Quote from Dajmin :You need to register both on the CTRA license site and on the server (or you did when I signed up). Then you'll start earning points.

But yes, once you get your S2 license you can do it.

But dont struggle and make the same mistake as i did... you must first get the Join2LFS programme, if you wanna connect to a server from the CTRA website!

ok... then its def not graphics lag cause im in the mid 90's. (what is decent FPS). cause if thats not great... i must go make some purchases to get lfs working properly, cause i love it... LOL

Quote from cmanns :Awesome

I get 92fps with everything cranked up on a 8600GT

I get the same with that card, however, i struggled with "lag" last night after running patch y22 for 1st time. seemed like it couldve been graphics/pc lag (im clueless with pc's)... but i know y22 was supposed to improve graphics and speed. do you think it could've been unrelated. (i do know i am far away from servers).

Any ideas?

Thats what i thought, but it really seemed to me that it was graphics lag yest, because it was close to perfect (as perfect as a south african can get on a European server). but as soon as i was near other people, they jumped left and right, and the smallest touches had huge consequences.

Quote from wsinda :Distance is not the driven distance (which is indeed slightly different if you take a different line). It is a way to measure how far you are in the lap, irrespective of whether you are on the inside or on the outside of a turn.

When I compare two laps, I want to compare what happened at a certain place on the track (e.g. the start of a turn). Where do they start braking, where do they apply throttle, etc. I'm not interested what happened at a certain point in time, because if one lap is much faster than the other, the drivers will be doing different things, e.g. A it still on the straight but B is making a turn. This is why I made LRA to always plot distance on the X axis. If you want to know where a driver gains or loses time, you can see this in the time diff graph (discussion here).

The LFSW analyser can do both time-based and distance-based graphs (using the Sync button). F1PerView also does both types of plots, and it has a time diff graph. AnalyseForSpeed has an entirely different approach: it ignores distance, and compares only by time (with, iirc, the possibility to synchronize cars). It is also purely for playback of the laps; it does not plot graphs.

Ja, u hit it on the head... i guess when we look at a replay to analyse, we both looking with the same goal in common, so i guess the easier question then, is which analyzer do u find most informative/beneficial?

Another thing, i see with patch y22, multiplayer replays are now the same as single player, does that mean we can use the ESC function and analyze multiplayer replays now?
Lag

Hi guys, im stupid with pc's, but i started using patch y22 today, and ever since i have been struggling with lag. it does not seem to be with the line tho as nothing has changed on it yest to today. the lag seems worse when im around other cars. (good on my own).

Ive tried to change graphics down, but im not sure why they'd be causing lag all of a sudden. please can some1 even half educated help, or at least, try to...

Oh ja, im racing on CTRA race 1... maybe i should rather have posted there... :-(

Retrieving laps/pb's etc while in game
Dizzydarryn

I was wondering if someone could help me with the shortcuts while in game (using chat) to retrieve PB's laps on circuit etc...

The commands at least to get the diff info...

/w pb gives your PB
/w laps give u number of laps on circuit

etc

yeah i suppose, it is if you on different lines. i was just confused last night when the graphs overlaps went out of sync... it was the only thing that my simple mind could think of last night... i guess what im asking is how to keep them sync's if you're comparing to a lap considerably faster than your own...

thanks for the responses guys.

Another question, it seems as tho these analyzers plott vs TIME. is there a way to change this to DISTANCE...

I find that as i loose time to the WR, the graph overlap seems to get bigger and bigger, however, if this was vs distance, i assume this wouldnt happen. Any ideas. thanks

Hotlap did not pass HLVC check
Dizzydarryn
S2 licensed
Hi guys,

I uploaded a hot lap last night, and got this email this morning...

" you have recently uploaded a hotlap at www.lfsworld.net, driven at SO6 with the XFG.

Unfortunately our additional hotlap checker did not validate your hotlap. As such, it has been removed from the LFS World hotlap charts.

The reason for the invalidity was: your hotlap did not pass the current HLVC check."

Not sure if anyone has received this before. As far as i remember, the lap was valid while i was driving it, and hence my ability to upload it...

Can anyone shed any light, so that the same thing doesnt happen again?

Thanks
Analyzing replays

hi all, please could some1 help me out. i am loking for replay analyzers. the 2 best seem to be AnalzyeforSpeed and f1perview. What i want to find out is if there is a way to analyze race data, or if it is strictly limited to hotlapping replays...

Thanks

Quote from unseen :The Wireframes are the outline of the 3d car model faces. They allow you to see where the exact edges of the model of the car lie to make it easier to skin accurately.

If they are getting in the way then either click the eye icon to the left of the wireframe layer to hide it, or just set the opacity of the layer to a lot less so it isn`t as visible.

They not getting in the way. i figured out how to hide them using the eye thing :-) i was just curious how to use the wireframe to make the skin look more "proffesional".

So basically, u can use it to make sure that your graphics arent gonna look funny cause they overlay onto a surface that isnt quite flat etc?
