I think it does help a bit with gears and pedal control. The handling of the cars really can't be compared to driving a real car though, as you have no forces acting on you, and you can't really feel what the car is doing. It definitely won't do any harm anyway, I played LFS for a year with a G25 before getting my first car and I haven't crashed yet

Quote from pjuniorbra :Every time I'm playing online, in my folder LFS there are two setups that are not mine, appear from nowhere, fz5_after.set and fz5_before.set, delete them but is just starting to play online that appear again, my version Z8, and eliminate it, someone will help me correct it.

Actually, I've been meaning to ask what they are too. I noticed them earlier when I was going for a quick RallyX blast in the FZ

I have another one:

What's the result of each of these:

15+6

3+59

81+17

12+53

75+12

25+52

68+32

I know that it's not easy to count so fast but that's the task

123+5

Now quick! Think about a vegetable! Now scroll down a bit.

A bit more.

And a bit...

Quote from tongey :Dougie, The PSU mentioned in my post is a Dell Compatible replacement for the dimension 4700

You are probably right about the 9800 gtx not fitting though, which is why I mentioned it. Was not 100% sure

I am wondering though, could a Dell system just be moved to a new/bigger case? - I know it is not an ideal situation but surely less expensive than replacing EVERYTHING

Ah, so it is, didn't look at the PSU

I'd doubt that a Dell motherboard can be moved, they seem to be a completely different shape to new ATX ones. You could probably bodge one in to a new case if you were determined enough though

Quote from tongey :And more importantly check the length of this card (9" long) to make sure it will fit into your Case, allowing enough clearance for power plugs, hard discs etc..

Seconded, if you do get the 9800GTX. There's quite a big chance it won't fit into your Dell case. Mine barely fits into my case (when I say barely, I had to remove the tabs that hold the PCI cards in just to squeeze it in that last bit), and this case is far bigger than my last Dell. The Google pics for the 4700 show it has the same case as the 8300, which is what I had, in which case the 9800GTX will not fit.

If you want a decent upgrade, you'll probably end up replacing almost everything. The CPU (3.0Ghz P4 according to Google) is enough for LFS, but in anything that supports multi-core you'll be bottlenecked by it. It also has a 305W PSU, which won't really power any decent card. And of course, Dell PSUs are pretty much built into the case most of the time, which makes it a fair job to replace them with an aftermarket one without bodging a giant hole in the rear of the case to accomodate it.

So really, you'll need to replace almost everything just to get a new card

I'll have you know [NEC] is some kind of trademark, at least it's stamped on one of my DVD-RW drives

Also, IBTL.

I think that LFS in the future should have the ability to start a race from the pits, with the engine off, and the player has to go for a warm-up lap and park at the lights. It's just a small thing, but for league races especially it would add much more immersion, as it makes it seem as though it's actually your car.

But for the engine turning off, I don't think it's that big a deal. Plus it helps those with older rigs, as they only have to calculate physics for those actually racing

1. In a real race you wouldn't start your car on the grid, you'd have done a warm-up lap or come out of the pits, and pulled up at your box. In LFS we don't have to start from the pits and drive around, so it makes sense to be on the grid with the engine running.

2. That's to save physics calculations, to help others' FPS. If you're going to be sitting at the side of the track or in the pits for a few minutes, there's no point having every player calculate your physics

Quote from BlueFlame :It's not negativity, it's a question. It's a fact that 80% of Christmas followers don't know the actual festival of Christmas. Telling children lies about a man that doesn't exist and giving presents to people who know you love them anyway because you 'have to' because it's 'Christmas'. If you're going to show your appreciation, you do it all year round, not just when it's Christmas.

Actually, Christmas originated as a pagan holiday. Besides, extensive astrology...astrologies (:shrug have shown that Jesus was born on June 17th

Anyway, happy Christmas all, and devs! :bananalla

Unless we get snow or freezing conditions, I can't see it being necessary. Even if you're reversing around the pitlane, doing fancy manoeuvers, you're not going to be going fast enough in reverse to lock up and slide a hundred yards. Having said that, I'm not sure if real-life cars have ABS in reverse, I'd imagine it differs from vehicle to vehicle though, like the cut-off speed

A Gigabyte EP35/45 would be a good board, slightly overbudget though...Not sure how cheap 35s are now, can't seem to find them

LFS Mug sounds cool I'd probably get a sticker for my car if they came out too. I agree about the clothing though, for some reason I don't think I'd wear one

E: Ooh, mousemat would be good too! ^^

Besides, why would you want to put money back in?

If you could, all that would happen is it would probably fall into some tray that catches stray notes. And then you'd have a hard time explaining to the cashier why you need to open the machine

I've tried running LFS under WINE on 8.10 a few days ago, and it doesn't fully work. It was dead slow even in the menus, and as soon as I selected a track, it crashed

3 pics from me. First 2 are my usual setup, third is my special Christmas setup (Only problem is the lights seem to cause some sort of interference with the G25, causing it to "plug out" whenever I turn them on Plus they make my eyes REALLY sore after about an hour of use)

And of course, if you like HD movies (which are definitely worth it if you have a big TV), PS3 is the only choice, now that HD-DVDs are a dead-end

Getting shot by the last Japanese c*** that waits for you in EVERY level in COD5 is incredibly annoying. And them Banzai fellas that charge you and stab you, and make you reach to the complete opposite side of the keyboard in less than 0.00000000001 seconds before you're dead. Getting up the hill in that "storm the castle" mission on the hardest difficulty made me physically rage. I'm fairly sure it shortened the lifespan of my mouse considerably from slamming it off my desk shouting "Why won't you die????????????" at the keyboard

When I was young, trying to beat Demon's Gate in FF7 made me rage too, I just couldn't do it...And there was no way to get out of the Ancient City to level up more, so I was stuck there...

The original quake was pretty bad too, on "Gloom Keep", where you go through the teleporter and end up in front of the Shambler, who instantly fires a lighting bolt at you, and you die, whether you like it or not

I found the original Tomb Raider to make me terrified of water too for some reason. In any game, I simply refuse to go into water where there might be something needing a killing. I think it was them bloody crocodiles that sneak up on you and kill you...

Roundabout Question

Hi, I'd like a few opinions on a matter I came across today. This is my second day of driving (legally :razz, so please correct me if I'm wrong. The Irish RSA rules (not sure on other countries' rules) say that for the first exit on a roundabout, you should stay in the left-hand lane on roundabout entry, and indicate left. For the second exit, you should stay in the left-hand lane on entry, and indicate left after passing the first exit. For all subsequent exits, you should stay in the right-hand lane on entry, and indicate right, and upon passing the exit before your one, indicate left. The only exception is if the roundabout has arrows indicating where each lane should go, but this particular roundabout doesn't (it has a forward arrow in each lane, which is the norm).

So, I was coming along the red line, with a truck on my ass the whole way up the road (I had pulled out in front of him about 400 metres earlier, limit is 50 but he was obviously going far faster, as he was on top of me in no time). I wanted to take the second exit, so I followed the red line, by staying in the left-hand lane the whole way around, and indicating left at the orange dot. And then the truck blew me out of it and started flashing, etc., and my mam, who was in the passenger's seat, started giving out to me, even though I followed the rules to the letter. I haven't been able to ask an instructor on what to do yet, as I haven't had lessons, but I followed the rules perfectly. Half the people I've spoken to have told me that I was wrong, and was turning "right", so should have indicated right, and half have said although I was right, I should still indicate right as everyone else does.

So, was I right in what I did, or should I do it the other way? Nobody's been able to give me a definitive answer yet, and I'd like to know as it's a roundabout I use regularly, as it's just off the dual carriageway beside my house...

DX8 crash seems to be gone for me. I've been fiddling with the LX4 at FE6R, where it usually crashes for me, and all's been well so far, even messing with overlays and pitting and speccing. Good job
