One look at his post history will show that he's just a sorry knob, not worth spending time typing relies to. Hopefully a mod will ban him permanently for his multiple infringements on the forum rules.
Scawen was contracted by Turn 10 as a consultant for physics and tyre deformation in Forza 3, thus had very little time to develop LFS over the last year. Now that Forza 3 development has finished, he's been working full time on LFS again and a release is imminent.
Can't wait for the laser scanned (and hopefully bumpy) track. Also more than happy to pay the small amount of money required for this and future S3 content.
The recent news has put a much needed aura of 'fresh' on the development of LFS and will take it out it's perceived wilderness. This is a new era people.
I suspect that Scawen has been toiling hard over the last year or so on many of the core components of LFS (and not just what he's told us about). While this has meant a very long time with no releases, the results will mean the team can roll out new content and improvements not previously possible and in shorter time-frames.
As customers, we'll start reaping the rewards relatively soon.
To the detractors; stay patient and stop whining like little girls. You're honestly embarrassing yourself....
While it's sometimes entertaining to see whiny teenagers abuse each other on the internet, for the greater good I'd like to see an exclusive section opened, just for cruising.
The mods could move any thread remotely related to cruising in to this section which the majority of the LFS community would actively avoid, this saving us from the dribble posted by these puerile dickheads!
Here's my guess which is based on nothing but random thought and speculation:
The Scirocco and the unique way it will exist in LFS somehow opened an enormous can of worms for Scawen in terms of physics issues.
True to form, he decided to take a step back and get it all sorted before the Scirocco is released. This is where most of his time is being spent.
Getting the physics fixes out of the way will make it much easier for the team to deliver new content going forward.
The net result will be:
The next patch will have the Scirocco, new physics and not much else.
Late this this year we will receive new content. (This is the 'I'm expecting some good releases this year' thing that Scawen said....)
June 2010 S3 will be released with another bundle of new content (tracks & cars) and a revamped game structure (integrated leagues/rankings revampled LFS World etc)
December 2010 LFS will be open to modding.
January 24th The first crappy iteration of Nordschleife will be released.
January 25th 2011 The Four Horsemen of the Apocolypse will arrive....
I've only glanced over this thread, but would I be the first to conspire that Scawen is secretly on the Forza 3 development team, coding tyre deformation? Under an assumed name of course.
He is the only person in the world to have done it previously, and Microsoft would have a hell of a budget to pay fo him... It might also explain the dramatic slowing of LFS development in recent years.
I have an A1 GT Pedal set which I'm rapt with so far. They're made in Australia, so shipping might be expensive to The States but I think they're licensed out to a manufacturer in China, so there may be an American distributer somewhere.
I've got an Act Labs shifter which does the job, but I suspect it's not going to be all that durable.
My wheel is a Logitech Momo which I'll use untill it breaks, then get something more hardcore and industrial strength.
My philosophy is that it's definitely worth paying more if you can for strong and durable equipment. Consumer grade stuff generally malfunctions after 2-3 years depending on usage, and doesn't feel as good anyway.
It's clear that have either not read or totally misunderstood the words I typed (and you quoted) because your post isn't on the same planet as what I was talking about.
My post was about the phenomenon of 'moaners' putting a stop to communication. Your rant seems to be some misconception about a canceled update.
Strictly speaking, it's not a reasonable request and no you don't have the right to demand estimated development timeframes.
When you purchased your S2 licence, you were buying LFS as is. Yes, it's very likely that the S2 version you purchased will be updated, but in the end, you're paying for what you got on the day.
If the devs decided to leave LFS for other ventures then it would be a nice warm glass of bad friggin luck.
I think that this is a bit of a myth. When you pit it in to perspective, the 'uproar' was a relatively small number of threads & posts by a tiny section of the community, most of whom the majority of the community could not care less about.
I don't quite understand why this phenomenon could not be handled by board moderation (the mods here are more than capable IMO), but instead it put a stop to all communications by the devs, aside from a very rare and informal posts in the depths of an existing thread.
I think that regular news on the main page would be far more helpful to sales than that.
It's a bit late for the devs to change their tune before the next patch, but I really hope for a change in attitude afterwards.
Regularly updating the community is a really important thing IMO. Doesn't have to be detailed or specific, just a means to touch base and confirm that they're still active in development.
The Apple OS is probably fine.
What I have huge issues with is their ridiculously overpriced hardware and the restrictions they impose on third party software. It makes them twice as bad as Microsoft.
See, I don't think so. In real life, your own eyes provide the motion blur effect, and it's really not any different looking at a monitor. Objects in my peripheral vision are still blurred. Not by a graphic effect, but by my own eyes.
Motion blur can provide style to some games, but does not look at all realistic. LFS should look realistic because it's a sim, attempting to replicate real life.
