Your AI seems to be about 3.5 seconds per lap slower than mine though. My AI ran a 20 lap race earlier today and the must have improved more than I thought. I didn't think there would be that much of a difference.
I agree terminal damage should happen, but improvements to collision detection must happen first. At the moment, things get caught up in each other an kind of explode which makes damage unrealistic.
It should be based on impact though and not traveling speed.

The Blackwood Head Start Challenge
------------------------------------- Race Setup:
Circut: Blackwood (BL1)
Laps: 3
AI Cars: 5x FXOs using 'Race S' setup
Player Car: FBM
The Challenge: How much of a head start can you give the AI and still win the race? The person who waits the longest before starting is the best.
You're allowed to roll up to the start of the checkerboard on the start/Finish line. Wait there and take of whenever you choose.
Golden Rule: Your car cannot make any contact with any AI cars or track side objects.
To get the ball rolling, below is my effort of giving a 30 second head start.
It was my 3rd attempt and will be easily beatable (coz I'm slow ). The key is to understand what the AI is doing and pass at the right time.
One thing though, the Live For Speed logo has been replaced with Dark Side racing one, contrary to your screenshots. I's OK though, I just replaced them from backup.
Hopefully Scawen will fix it so that if your car is detected going through that gap, LFS immediately bans you from all servers for 9 years. And if possible, then sets fire to your computer.
It's absolutely necessary in a racing simulator that aims at realism.
I'm not going to comment on whether it breaks too easily as that has already been discussed to death. Suffice to say, I can seem to drive forever if I shift properly and clutch-in if I spin.
You can now look 90 degrees.
Animated marshals and configurable mirrors would be nice and all, but I'd prefer it if the Devs did other things first like improved colision detection, engine and body damage. That's just my opinion though.
Finally, you look to have been using the demo for a hell of a long time now, so get S2 ya tightarse!
Re: the rest for your post, I reckon the game is playable just fine with auto-clutch, but now better supports proper clutches.
Win/Win as far as I can see.
Yeah, the FZ50 is such a pleasure to drive now.
So much more predictable, and that's in a positive sense. It was off the friggin' dial before. I reckon it can be driven consistently enough now to be raced by the masses.
I haven't really had a go at the LX6 yet, but grab will Axus' set and give it a whirl tomorrow.
Nice - See you on there. And to any OS people with decent pings to the Aussie servers; wipe the sleep crust from your eyes grab a morning coffee and join in. The Aussie servers I've been on are very friendly and competitive, although the language may stray occasionally.
