Quote from Khiro :-Champioship mode: not al of us have the time to play a league online, and a chapionship "solo" mode (not carrear, that could be more complex) will made us happy. With options for selection the car and classes for the chapionship (all IA with the same car as the player / teh IA with the same class / or mixed classes with puntuation divided for the classes), Number of the laps or time duration of the races, number of races, selection of the circuits (maybe with some premade divisions for fast chapionship creation, for example, long circuits/ medium circuits /short circuits), set up te obligation or not to pit during the race. And, of course, an option to save the progress of the chapionship

I completely agree with this. Being an occasional off line player these days, a way of creating simple championships against the AI would add a lot to the game for me. I would LOVE this feature.

I love BeamNG, but it's a 'vehicular physics sandbox', not a hardcore racing sim. The tyre model isn't refined enough. So, the 2 games aren't competing with each other in that regard.

Having said that, I'm following BeamNG's development with interest. The devs communicate quite well, and they've also taken on board some of the top community modders to be part of the dev team.

Updates are relatively frequent, and it's always fun to see hoe things evolve.

Did a lap in the Mazda 787B around Nordscleife.

Fast lap! Well done.

One thing about AC though is that the ambient sounds are way too loud.

If you were in this car in real life with a helmet on (and presumably ear plugs in) I imagine you'd hear a more muffled version of the screaming engine and hardly any of the ambient squeaks and squeals you do in the game.
I wish they'd simulate this better in the game.

(and don't get me started on being able to hear the crowd clapping you on some circuits!)

Quote from Scawen :I didn't really say anything new there, guys. I was just saying once more that we are interested in user created content after S3, for people who have forgotten that or missed it. It's not imminent or definite. It's something we are interested in. But how long? Think years, not months.

Perhaps we could release user editors bit by bit, to iron out the issues, rather than dumping some big unwieldy mess on you all at once. But as I say, it's not relevant now. We have to get to S3.

Thanks for the clarification. Not being a programmer, I have absolutely no idea of the effort necessary to implement a track editor.
I would predict though, that it could well be the renaissance that LFS needs so much.
LFS still holds the advantage of having a beautifully simplistic and functional MP system that's not yet matched in other sims. This combined with high quality, community made content would revive interest a lot I think.

I also agree that an incremental release of editors would be the best approach. It will maintain interest in the community and help to keep things manageable on the development front.

Quote from Scawen :I am actually interested in releasing a track editor and providing a system to automatically download track updates when the creator updates their track and textures. I think the download would be a low priced paid service (like premium skins) even if the tracks are free (paid tracks are another thing entirely). But this is absolutely impossible to supply to S2 licensed users, unless we want to discard any possibility of making money. So it would have to be an S3 thing. This type of possibility is one of the reasons why Eric and I are working hard to get to the S3 license, because it will allow us to produce and release cool things for S3 licensed users.

That's quite a game changer there, I think. And I welcome it.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall the Devs ever hinting at the proposition of allowing user created content in LFS.

I agree it's unlikely that even S3 will generate a sustained increase in interest, if/when it's released.

After all these years following LFS's development it's pretty clear that the Devs aren't all that concerned either way. They continue to work at their own pace and are willing to leave huge amounts of time between releases. Despite community sentiment and declining usage they don't seem to be taking steps to counter this.

While I find this little bit odd and even frustrating as an end user, I realise that their aims and goals might not be the same as what I'd expect them to be, and that in the end it's not my call what they do.

They really are the non conformist beatniks/hippies of the independent games development scene. Smile

Regardless, I'll still follow LFS with interest.

Well said Anthoop.
I'd also add that people (myself included) can still play, just not play online. Something that's a foreign concept around here for some reason.
In the end, we all paid the same price for a ticket and have every right to use the software and participate in the community as we like.

Quote from troy :Scawen always said he wanted to finally get the tyre physics out so they can properly introduce new content (some free some for s3).

That would be confirmed Rockingham and VWS plus extra content, I think I remember something about another 2 tracks and 3 cars? But don't quote me on that, maybe I got that wrong.

But yes, some teasing by Scawen would be very nice Smile

Edit: one more track mentioned there https://www.lfs.net/forum/post/1876575#post1876575

He also said that if content is ready before phyics are done it will be released, although that is quite a recent statement and contradicts a lot of the earlier ones.

Quote :

We wanted to release S3 after the new tyre physics (and Scirocco) but now I don't think that is important any more. If we can get some S3 content ready before the tyre physics is finished, then it can be released, even without all the S3 things we would like to release eventually. So we'll see.

Another quick one from the last westhill progress report

Quote :
After the Westhill update, Eric will continue with the S3 tracks he has been working on. Scawen will continue with the new tyre model. The new tyres currently feel good to drive but some work needs to be done on heat, pressure, friction, tyre load sensitivity and wear which are all closely linked.

- LFS Developers

Thanks for the concise reply. I do read Scawen's posts with interest.
I'm keen to learn if these development stages were considered short/medium/long term.

Frankly, I'm asking for an expected timeline on these developments.

And before it's mentioned I know it's against Scavier's culture to respond to queries regarding'time' (though I've never truly understood why this is the case, as avoiding the concept of 'time' really goes against everyone's interests to some degree at least).

Anyway, there's no harm in asking...
What's next for LFS?

So, the new (and great) Westhill environment has been out for a little while now.

Just wondering: where to now?
Do the devs have anything in the pipeline for the short to medium term for the project?

Interesting.

Some aspects look great, but they've made few poor design decisions, I think.
To me it's just a too cluttered with buildings, trees and signs.
Blackwood to me is a humble place, but it's a matter of taste I guess.

The buildings in the inner loop definitely have to go though! Smile

Quote from rychlyjaromir :Scawen doesn't know the word "progress". It's not even about delivering new content. It's about not announcing things to come in 2 weeks as a remedy for lack of new content and then delaying it infinitely. They talked about Westhill in June...

Checking your online stats...

Do you know how to use the game ? because you made only 24kms and 5 laps... And last time online is 4 months ago... Big grin

What do his online stats have to do with anything? It does my head in that this is seen as a valid counterpoint over and over again...

So, LFS has online racing...
I think we all knew that. What's your point?

The argument that Rift is a bad idea because it doesn't make people faster completely misses the point. My H shifter and clutch probably slow me down, but realism and immersion is much better.
I'm not trying to be unrealistically fast, I'm trying to enjoy an accurate simulation of motor sport.
There seems to be a common delusion that most users of LFS pump dozens of hours each week into competitive online racing. Looking at the number of online racers, it quite clear that this is not the case.
The fact is that the majority of users don't play online. I'd bet also that they'd prefer realism over being competitive. Why wouldn't the devs cater for these people?
Don't forget that everyone has paid them the same amount of money regardless of how they choose to play, how often they play or whether they play online or not.

Picked up Spintires for 10 bucks. It's technically very impressive. Looks great and softy body physics and road deformation are high quality.
It's crying out for business elements to be integrated to it, so you can run your own logging transport or vehicle recovery business.
Well worth $10 anyway...
