Tomorrow TBO will be at the classic BL1, and since the R2R guys have decided to jump start their training for the 6h from LFS Endurance Series next month, GEN server will be on WE1 with the GTR's!

Have fun!

Thx AndRand, had a quick looks and noticed some things are wrong
AS2R XRT time min was 01:12:69 RB4 was 01:1 3:16 FOX was 01:12:50
AS7R FXO had min 02:16:77

Has you can see FXO and XRT are pretty close everywhere!

Quote from Gener_AL (UK) :I think your wrong here becky, its very even with 3%, with FXO being faster usually for qualifications and races where tyres are not an issue.

The 3% starts to hurt when FXO tyres are hard to keep cool or in short sprint races.

Framaris could you provide some stats from server with fastest times for a selection of tracks you have had on rota on R2R TBO server?

I do agree with you here, we've tested it intensively for almost a year now and we've seen some very good fights between the two, some tracks favor FXO and others XRT, but always quite close, the only track where FXO really dominated was KY2.
The tricky part was to balance our series between those tracks, but like you said FXO heats up tires a bit quick which means that race pace is quite a bit off qual pace, when the XRT can maintain race pace closer to qual pace...

For some stats you can jump on our TBO server and check the top which has an XRT leading BL1, but if you want detailed stats for the tracks we've raced since September, check this link http://www.ready2rollteam.com/airio/ (note that we use path check on our servers, so no pb’s are done by cutting the track)

I think FXO with 3% is a bit like FXR, they are fast cars but not many great drivers uses it, so it is quite difficult to compare them, but if I take Pallu as an example, he manages to put all 3 cars very close to eachothers, yes even the RB4 can go very fast in the right hands...

I have been thinking for a while about balancing the cars down to the RB4, but sadly many ppls don’t like restricted cars, so restricting 2 out of 3 maybe a bit too much….but I keep this idea somewhere in my head, maybe for a later dailycious series….

Quote from Bean0 :I voted 'love them all...' but I don't really like the RB4
Although I prefer the LRF class, but that is even less popular for public racing than the TBOs.

Hopefully the TBOC/RSC will put some life into the roadgoing tintops again.

Maybe I should have write it an other way, but I mean by love them all, the sprint the races and the cars....so it's all good..

Quote from ACCAkut :I really like to race the XRT (like I do all XR cars), but today its a bit tricky to find a server with people on it that doesn't require a 200 points something license for its Airio system.

Many other topic to talk about racing system, let's keep this on track and between TBO lover.
We run a TBO server with restricted FXO and no licenses required to race the sprints racing and we run airio, so the application (tracker) is not in question here....
What kind of TBO driver are you?

Many ppls complains about TBO’s ups and downs, so I got curious and wanted to ask what kind of TBO driver are you?
In the last couples of years I have seen TBO go from very popular to completely dead without any apparent reasons, so I am getting the feeling that most TBO racers are occasional racers, let see if this poll will prove me wrong….

Be honest!

Sorry I've been away for a couples of days.....

Quote from bunder9999 :the reason i hate them is simple. "ignorant f#%ks" think "oh, i can install this on any computer i come across, because how will they know it was me, time to leech free cpu"...

there have been many cases where people have been fired from their jobs in america for doing said infraction. the developers of F@H and BOINC specifically say "install on your own computers only", for a good reason.

taxing a cpu to a constant 100% usage draws extra energy, wears out cpu fans faster, makes rooms louder, and wastes network bandwidth.

if i ever find out who has been doing it at my work, i hope my manager reams them out and sends them the bill for replacing roughly 500 cpu fans, labour for having dell install those fans, and the equivalent year's worth of power consumption for 500 computers.

Well I don't see how ppls's stupidity does make F@H or BOINC bad things or like you said ''cancer''??
Taking exceptions and generalizing is never a good thing, that is what xenophobia and racism does.... I believe most F@H members are good reliable ppls who want to help in an honest way!
They are working on real problems and offering real solutions to simulate things which were not previously possible...so they are in no way responsible for the ''stupid'' ppls abusing other’s networks.
I am a system builder specialized in custom installations and I've worked with many network managers the last 12 years, allowing services and applications installations on workstations has always been known as a big problem, I don't understand how you waited for F@H to make you realize that? is that not why things like Group Policy has been integrated to windows?

Anyway, I do agree with you that apps like F@H should be installed only on our machines, but if you do install it on a friend’s machine make sure he does understand fully what it means… never use a machine without authorization…

Sincerely I don’t see how 500 fans could have died from running one year at max T/m as long as they are running inside specifications? Going on and off and the variable speed is often what kills them….
If something like that would happen to me, I would ask Dell to research the problem with their fans and to replace them for free....

Personally I don’t use dynamic frequency scaling ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_frequency_scaling ) on my CPU’s because it is known to cause problems in gaming, that said when testing my main rig (quad core TDP 65W) with or without 4 x F@H clients I noticed a jump of +/-30W compared to my normal daily use (GPU running LFS uses a lot more )… and personally I like to know where the money I give for charity goes and with F@H I can read about every project which are uploaded to my clients…

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folding@home
Quote : Estimates of energy usage per time period are more difficult than estimates of energy usage per processing instruction. This is because Folding@home clients are often run on computers that would be powered-on even in the absence of the Folding@home client, and that run other programs simultaneously. While Folding@home increases processor utilization, and thus (usually) power consumption, the extent to which it does so is dependent on the client processor's normal operating load, and its ability to reduce clock speeds when presented with less-than-full utilization (a process known as dynamic frequency scaling). Consequently, the total power usage of the Folding@home client on a temporal basis is probably less than the figure that could be calculated by summing the peak power consumption of each of the project's component processors.

Quote :Also, in a Folding@home client that is run on a home computer where a heating system is being used, the excess heat generated by the power usage would theoretically reduce the amount of energy needed to heat the building.

Sorry if I say it was an uneducated comment...

Of course Global warming and energy usage are definitely important issues, and I won't sidetrack the entire thread to debate this issue. But it's worth considering that the energy spent folding is going to be spent somewhere by someone - even if it's done by supercomputers in laboratories. The search for curing certain diseases and understanding the human body better is a very important one which is going to continue unabated, and by distributing the work it simply speeds it up.

It should also be considered that we waste an inordinate amount of physical and human resources - and hence add a lot more to global warming - in the continuing treatment of diseases which could otherwise be cured for good. Imagine how much less energy could be used in the future if we find cures or simple treatments for major long-term diseases like Cancers, Alzheimers, Parkinsons, AIDS and so forth. The amount of energy used to produce the medicines, machines and treatments for these diseases is huge, so folding could be a potential way to prevent even larger energy wastage in the future.

I have been a F@H member for years in the tweakguides.com team, I haven't been folding much for a while now, so I thought let's see if LFS had a team and I noticed this topic, but sadly I see that this team is dead with no production for a long time. I also noticed that many of us are a little bored of LFS atm, so I thought lets start an healthy competition with all that unused CPU/GPU power on F@H while waiting for the next patch....

I have setup a new team so that everyone can start at the same time, but before we do that I like to ask a mod if I am allowed start a clean topic to advertise this new little competition for a good cause? (also noticed an other dead topic on the subject which could be removed I think http://www.lfsforum.net/showth ... ;highlight=folding%40home )

If not I will post it here....

Also I like to ask the guys who have folded before if they would resume their work in this new team?

New topic proposition:
Quote : Folding@Home LFS Community team (competition for a good cause)

I noticed that many of you were bored of LFS, so that means that a lot of processor power is wasted during those times you’re not playing, so I thought let’s start an healthy competition to make use of our CPU’s or GPU’s when not playing…

Don’t know if many of you knows about Folding@Home, it a project which consist in using unused CPU power to fold proteins which play an important role in disease like Alzheimer's, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many Cancers. The idea is to offer scientist a way to realize projects which they couldn’t do with a super computer by using 100.000’s CPU’s around the world

What is protein folding?
Proteins are biology's workhorses -- its "nanomachines." Before proteins can carry out these important functions, they assemble themselves, or "fold." The process of protein folding, while critical and fundamental to virtually all of biology, in many ways remains a mystery.
Moreover, when proteins do not fold correctly (i.e. "misfold"), there can be serious consequences, including many well known diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many Cancers and cancer-related syndromes.

You can help scientists studying these diseases by simply running a piece of software.
Folding@home is a distributed computing project -- people from throughout the world download and run software to band together to make one of the largest supercomputers in the world. Every computer takes the project closer to our goals. Folding@home uses novel computational methods coupled to distributed computing, to simulate problems millions of times more challenging than previously achieved.

This is not new and it plays an important role now, check the result page here: http://folding.stanford.edu/English/Papers

Personally I have been folding for years for the Tweakguides.com team and I have folded a total of 21.921 WU (work units or projects) or 410774 points. In the good time we’ve managed to get in the top 100 teams for weekly production of WU’s (top 100 today would need 19.000 points a week now http://folding.extremeovercloc ... eam_list.php?s=&srt=6 ) which was really special for such a small team considering that some had 1000’s of members…..and I believe LFS community would do even better...
http://vspx27.stanford.edu/cgi ... age&username=Framaris
http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cg ... eampage&teamnum=50446

Each WU are different and will take different amount of time to realize, so different amount of points will given function of difficulty. So since we all like competition and we all have our PC running most of the day doing close to nothing, I thought it would be a good idea to create an LFS community team.

We will compete as team in the middle of 1000’s of others and as individuals for the general stats and inside our team, so if you care to join me, here are some useful information’s:

Handy stats websites (team was just created so it is not there yet):

To participate in this competition, some work will be required on your part, there are different clients you can use (single CPU, multi core CPU’s, GPU’s and even PS3), some of those will be less easy to use but will produce bigger rewards in compensation….care to compete for a good cause?

Happy folding!

THX in advance for answering!

PS: I know Folding is not a competition, but competition is always a great motivation and that's how we got in the top 100 with the tweakguides.com gaming community.....
If no one is interested in competing for this, I'll probably join the team Arco created....

Well I wouldn't take part in anything which could damage LFS, but I wish ppls would realize that our servers are not a part of what they bought with LFS, our servers are an expensive and time consuming service we provide for free and I don't see why we have to take all that bull….???

I’ve been a bit busy with the Stressmas period and a bit lazy too I must admit , so here I resume posting info's about the series....

On Wednesday GEN event we will be on LX4/AS3R and next Monday TBO event will be at AS7R.

And don't forget you need a copper license to be allowed to participate to the series, so if you want to race the events make sure you do some laps on the combo before them....

December driver of the month was quite a fight between R4R Matty and myself, I came 100 points short, congratulation to him!!

What amazes me is the amount of public servers still running today, when you see the amount of complains in this forum (mostly unfounded) and the amount of work needed to run those servers, I am really surprised there are still guys around willing to organize things…

LFS is the most ungrateful community I ever saw and I am a hard core gamers for almost 20 years, so go on like this and the next thing you will complain about will be ‘’why is there almost no servers left in LFS?’’

Feedback is always the problem, ppls seems to think that they should report only the bad things and I know negative feedback is necessary to improve things (when constructive), but constructive positive feedback is also greatly appreciated and will also allow us to improve/maintain things. Think about those guys who can’t race because they have to admin the careless drivers all the times, their only reward is to see happy racers!

Too many ppls spend more time complaining than racing and when you see them driving you ask yourself ‘’WTH was that about on the forum???’’

I always wonder what ppls think when they discover the great sim lfs is and then read this forum??

My advice to admins is don’t do only what worked in the past or what works on other servers, be creative and bold enough to try new things... The ambiance on the server is the key to its success...

The trackers we use (Airio or Lapper) are great tools build to feel a need requested by server admins, in no way they are the culprit here!

Personally I am still here because I love racing, LFS still has one of the best online experience and it feels like a big family, and luckily there are still some ppls like me around…
Are you one of us?

And one important thing to close this, don’t go to servers you don’t like, every popular server starts with one racer liking it, don’t spend time trying to change popular servers to your liking, we are all different and we all like different type of racing…if you don’t like LFS plz just leave and let us have fun with our favorite sim….if you stay, spend your energy in a positive and constructive way!

Hi,

Things have changed a bit and we now have one server set to change combo's every week, as you may have seen in the announce and rules many weeks haven't been programmed on GEN server.
For those combo's we are going to start votes in the forum, so if there is any combo you would like to see, this is the right place to post them.
I can't promise we will play them all since the part 2 of the series will take 12 weeks, but each votes will contain 3 or 4 choices, so I can promise that we will look to this topic before creating the votes.

So let's see what you want to race!

Please post you requests here: http://www.ready2rollteam.com/ ... mp;t=418&p=2477#p2477

Sorry this had to happen marsaz, I have checked our ban list and you are not on it any more, so it may have been a 12h ban.
For the story Masai has been too nice till now, since day 1 he has only banned 2 drivers which is very little compared to my score, lately I have pressured him to be more present and to sanction careless driving.
That said at Ready2Roll we believe that bans are only effective when short and drivers learn not to repeat the same things when they come back, nothing personal I can insure you...

If you have a replay of the action, I'll be happy to look at it...

Quote from james12s :when trying to connect i just get a tcp error, and the log file says my p activly refused the connection. windows firewall is turned off (xp), and im doing everything in the order above but no luck

Got the same error when I tested it first time, after looking for a solution on the port side and loosing much time, I found that I had created in the past an undedicated server which was passworded, I removed the password and aonio was working perfectly.

If you don't have the same problem, try it with a fresh install of lfs, if it works it probably means that something was messed up in lfs config...

Good Luck!

@EQ: Great stuff mate, I love the last updates!!
And the cfg offers some nice customisation options, I am thinking of making some rock n roll sound files for cars coming from behind and maybe some meditation music for what's in front...lol
