i think the biggest problem with better cockpits is that they would lose compatibility. Right now, you can switch between kph and mph and even left or right hand drive.
That's no problem, because the gauges are vector graphics.

But to get high quality cockpits, you would have to use bitmap graphics, and therefore these would be in kph or mph, left or right hand drive.
I think that's the main reason, maybe i'm wrong...

So my suggestions would be: forget about mph and right hand drive!

like i told you, i still get this "server isn't online anymore" message.

latest version, yesterday, on this server:
lfs://|HighFiDelity+%232|0|S2|/
HighFiDelity #2

It seemed like the blank between the 'y' and the '#' was removed inside lfs.
In the statusbar the '#' is shown as '#' but the links says %232. maybe that helps.
I'm using Firefox 1.5 and joined from the live alert window.

probably. in the FO8 the line gets red in corners or uphill, even if you don't lose speed, just stopping gaining more (according to the speedometer, maybe the real speed gets slower by less than 1kph).
And maybe the same effect happens when you shift with a slower car.

maybe kegetys can tell us how the colors work

Quote from CrazyICE :you see it, for example, on the straight, where you accelerate (green path) and when the ghost shifts the color of the path changes... (to orange or so)
have a look on it!

"it's easy to see"

i think that's a coincident. The color changes to orange or even red if you stop to accelerate. With the FO8 in AS national it gets red in the very fast corners, but not if you shift.
I wondered about the red line on the straight, but i couldn't figure out what's the reason. And it isn't the shifting. I tried it.

I will try it again tonight and make some screenshots.

Quote from KNAPPO :just protecting my work

protecting it from what?

if it's just a showcase, fine, but if it's meant to be used as an actual DVD cover, your name should be somewhere at the bottom in small letters, but not bigger than the names of the 3 devs together! illepall

You missed the point of a cover here! It's about the game, not who made the cover.
You protected it by releasing it here, nobody can rip it off and say "it's mine". So you should consider removing that, and also what orion said about the fonts. It's a little bit too much everywhere.

Quote from Fordman :In a more friendly manner If you are quicker than the ghost car, whats the point of looking at it in your rear view mirror.

i think you are still missing the point!

if you are quicker than the ghost car, that quicker lap will become the new ghost. As long as you are seeing it in the rear view mirror, you are driving a new PB.

Quote from BBO@BSR :Just something to think about

I don't want to cut down Kegetys work on that but tbh i don't understand the hype about this application.

Everyone is talking about that LFS is the one and only, the first real realistic sim etc. and now it looks like you guys are "freaking out" about something that is part of most of the typical arcade games. A ghost car is imo more then unrealistic and should not be part of a sim .

I don't say don't use it (everyone can do what he wants) but I never used it and I'll never use it.

lol, sorry, but if someone really claims that LFS is the first real realistic sim, he has some serious mental problems!
A hud with a minimap, a between tire view, starts only after green light, a reset key, analogue displays on a digital readout etc.
There are many more things in LFS that are far away from realism. Some are
still in development and maybe will be fixed in a patch/S3, some are gameplay decision that there are for a reason (shift+s e.g.)

The ghostcar is a practice instrument for singleplayer and it's as unrealistic as the current hotlap mode where you can start your hotlap over and over again, even after a fatal crash!

A64 3500
X800P
256MB of 3200 DDR
Audigy 2
WinXP SP2
Xbox controller with XBCD drivers
The error message is STOP 0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER (Q293078)

Yes, same thing happened to me and another guy. We both had nvidia cards, but since you have an ATI we can rule that out as the problem.

Please check if it only happens the first time! I gave it a second shot and it didn't crash anymore.
I don't know the error message on the blue screen, because it rebooted immidiately.

Maybe everyone who gets crashes/bluescreens/reboots can post his system specs, so we find the problem.

Mine are:

XP64 3500+
GF 7800GT
1GB DDR400 Ram
nForce4 Ultra chipset
Audigy soundcard
DFP wheel

Quote from Kegetys :Well, bluescreens can only happen when there is a hardware or driver fault (Unless you run a Win95 based OS :P) so it really cannot be caused by the ghostcar mod. Something it does might trigger a bug in the video card driver for example, but I cannot do anything about that.

Well, if the same thing happens for 2 people trying the mod it has to be caused by it, even if it's not its fault.
But it think we can rule out hardware faults, because it's very unlikely that avih and i bought exactly the same faulty hardware
So it has to be the driver if it's not the mod, i use FW 81.94 with a GF7800GT and the latest drivers for an nForce4 Ultra chipset.

Maybe you should "release" the tool in the addon section, so more people will see and try it, maybe we can find the reason for the blue screens.

But it still doesn't sound like a driver problem, if it just happens the first time you crossed the line tbh. And that was the first bluescreen since 2 years or so.

Quote from tristancliffe :The trouble with ghost cars is that you can use them to drive a lap much faster than if you do not have a ghost car. So hotlaps will be artificially closer as people do laps they could not hope to do driving on their own. Which kind of defeats the point of hotlapping imo... One drivers versus the others in almost equal cars (i.e. setups).

illepall i highly doubt that...

Quote from avih :Yup, I've had exactly same ecperience. Complete and immidiate reboot 1st time I've tried it, but your post convinced me to give it another go. And it works beautifully. Great mod indeed.

yes, when i was over the line, 1sec later a very short blue screen and then an immidiate reboot.
I tried it again for a few laps and it worked fine.
