I'm a big supporter of electric cars but having seen the Le Mans diesel Audi live I have to say that Motorsport definitely needs to find a way to keep them petrol engines even when some day they are no longer accepted in general automotive transport.

League would still be interesting though. And wth hasn't Top Gear done any stuff on this?

FYI. Race 2 is live on Eurosport 2 today at 14:00 CET. First time I'll be watching this series although I have seen a demo run of the car and it looked and sounded quite nice.

EDIT:looks like race 1 was on from 11:00 to 12:00. Somehow missed it when I was checking the schedule on eurosport.com.

Quote from ajp71 :The US has a big club racing scene, lots of superb club circuits and plenty of different club level single seaters though. Given that the front running cars in F4 are built new for the American market there must be somewhere to race them. A very quick search reveals that SCCA have a series which FF2000 cars are eligible for.

Certainly does look like there is a reasonable amount of club activity but I still doubt it's comparable to the UK.

Quote from Logicalx :LoL so basically Overal Tracks....

basic start out cost for shall we say BTCC (Touring Cars) is at least £200,000 (and thats in the low class)
thats before running costs, team, sponsership and all the other lil bits n bobs main thing i think you really need is to get "Spotted" by a Sponsership you get spotted at some of these events then you have very very good luck on ur side but alot of things come in to play trying to get into these types of things and the 1st thing is money...

Nobody gets spotted. This isn't hollywood.

Sorry, should have said UK or GB.

In Germany there is exactly one SS club racing series. It has 3 races in Germany and you have to be happy with the safety standards from the '60s and 70's (historic Formula Vee).

Quote from tristancliffe :I very much doubt you are limited to the mentioned series/championships in total, but it depends what level of racing and investment you are after. There will be various 'club level' single seater championships throughout the country catering for many older and even contemporary chassis that will require budgets at a fraction of the level of Skip Barber et al.

You mustn't forget that England cannot be compared to any other country in the world when it comes to club racing. In most countries there's really only a handful of club series and it's quite unlikely that any of them are single seaters.

Quote from ATC Quicksilver :I think he should go to America, he would probably have a shot at IRL if he did some ALMS.

Yeah, might be a good idea.

Quote from Mackie The Staggie :anyone know of the next kid supposedly coming through the Mclaren system. I saw an article a couple weeks ago about the Scottish boy (say boy, he's 22) whose Dario Franchetti's cousin, or some kind of relative.

As you may gather I skim read the article , or it was a Sunday articale and was still too hungover to ackowldge it.

He's not some unknown kid, he's the guy who beat Vettel very clearly in F3 euroseries, both even driving for the same team. Then, similarly to Paffett, he didn't have enough money to do GP2 so he went for a payed drive in DTM. This weekend he still has a chance to secure the DTM title and next year it looks like Mercedes may be paying for him to go to GP2 after all. And yes, he's Franchitti's cousin.

EDIT: forgot a minor detail, his name, Paul di Resta.

Quote from ATC Quicksilver :Interesting read, have to say I feel a little bit sorry for Gary Paffett, Mclaren seem to have ignored him.

Yeah, I really wonder why he failed to impress them more as a test driver. He's been ultra fast in everything he's ever done. Right now his career is going round in circles a bit. He's dominating the DTM B class which will probably lead him back into the DTM A class, which he already won in 2005...

But where can he go? At 27 he's probably too old to do a di Resta and go to GP2 and F1 teams, other than the failed prodrive, have never seemed interested. Shame.

No big bother anyway, thanks for the attempted help

Quote from ajp71 :Looking at it the blue car seemed to be traveling very slowly (for a winged car), it looks like the white (unwinged car) had decided to slot in behind it on the outside letting Tristan take the inside. Presumably he was expecting the other car to be quicker than him round the corner as well and moved sharply to the right to avoid him when he realised this wasn't the case, I'm pretty sure the blue car was taken out by the white one but it is unclear and rather academic whether that was before or after hitting Tristan.

But I wonder if the white car was even aware of Tristan? It does look like it at first but then why does he move over to right so far?

Quote from S14 DRIFT :Well that was the only one in recent months (read years) to not play. It must be a sign.

J.B, I tried your suggestion but WinRAR started having a spaz at me, so it won't play anyway.

Rename the avi not the rar.

Quote from S14 DRIFT :Btw Tristan, video refuses to play for me.

The file extension is wrong. Rename from AVI to MP4. And if you can't play it then it's because you're missing either Haali splitter or ffdshow.

Cool vid BTW. Did the blue car spin by itself or did you actually domino the other one into it?

Hamilton: he already beat Alonso in his first season and can only get better.

Alonso: showed that he can be as quick and often quicker than Hamilton last year, and IMO may well be the only driver to ever do so during Lewis' career. Some great drives this year also.

Kubica: first driver ever to cause problems for Heidfeld, great pace, few errors.

EDIT: I guess I didn't really answer the question, as Hamilton and Alonso as team mates didn't really work that well. So my choice would be Hamilton and Kubica.

Quote: 'Preload simply makes the diff behave as if it were locked over a certain range of torque difference between the wheels'

That's only part of the truth though. Fully locked means 100% lock. Preload makes sure that lock never gets to 0% but it doesn't do this by always making it 100%.

A good discussion is here: http://www.lfsforum.net/showth ... 831&highlight=preload

Quote from Jertje :I'll ask you again, why was Kovalainen in that position? Hint: because he had to mash his brakes and avoid his rampaging team-mate.

In videos you can see Kovalainen (and very clearly, too) brake hard after Hamilton locks up, right in front of him and only after that being able to steer right again -- I really don't see how anyone can argue that Kovalainen did anything wrong there. That's just blaming the bullet for killing someone.

Huh, so Kovalainen had a hard time to avoid a car that was in front of him that braked far too late? What does that mean?

But it doesn't really matter, the fact of the matter is that these kind of T1 incidents have never been penalized.

Hahaha, F1 is such a joke.

I went to bed after Lewis was given yet another penalty for an offense that has never ever in the past been seen as worthy of a penalty and won't be in the future (although it was a bonehead move).

Then I wake up and read about another ridiculous pro Massa decision and it doesn't even anger me, F1 just can't be taken seriously as a sport. It needs to break down and die already, public taxes are being paid for this shit ffs.

And this guy gets the prize for representing his team fittingly by behaving like a POS on live TV after seeing his driver spin an opponent around. Never seen anything like it.

It's called "TrafficShare Download" and you can use it if sign up. I got 10 GB worth of TrafficShare bandwidth when I signed up for 1 month, after that they sell it for about 18ct/GB.

Here's a full lap onboard from Alonso. Not a great lap but after that the director kept jumping around without showing a full lap.

FIA have clarified the chicane cutting rules: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/70526

Quote from Mark Webber :"But generally, it is pretty clear for people to probably not attack immediately again, which wasn't mega, mega clear in the past."

So there we have it. It's been clarified which means it was not clearly defined before which means they can't give a penaltly for it. Lewis will get his win back on September 22. If there are sane people judging that is.

I know I'm late to the party but I just had my first look at rafa and I'm quite impressed! Very clean and easy to use. In case you are still looking for feedback here are my suggestions how it could be made a lot more useful.

First, as yapper mentions above, a time difference graph is very useful to find out where time is being gained/lost. To save space I would put this in the same window as speed as that's the one that's going to be open all the time.

Also important would be IMO that when I zoom, all graphs are zoomed at the same time, so that the cursor line is still in sync with the displayed data. For example if I zoom in to turn 1 to analyze the braking I want to see steering and throttle all at the same scale and the same position.

And I think there needs to be a way to move the cursor position using the keyboard so that I can go through a lap step by step. For example one real life data analysis tool I've worked with uses the arrow keys to move the cursor and ctrl+arrows to move the currently visible range (when you are zoomed).

Not really important but nice would be if a live steering wheel could be added to the overview screen and whether it could be moved to the right hand pane as to not take away room for a real graph.

And why do keep saying names are not needed? If I didn't feel I needed them I wouldn't mention them would I?

And no, contacts on straights are usually caused by one driver alone.

I may give the time trials idea a try, although having to do so only reinforces my opinion of the SR.
