Benchmarks are not real-world usage. No actual conclusions can be made from just running Sunspider a few times. (Especially when Sunspider only tests Javascript performance)
CPU usage is through the roof. Using a full core doing nothing. No thanks, I kinda expect a browser to not use much CPU when it's not actually rendering or processing Javascript.
Other than that, the claims that it passes the Acid3 test? False. The animation's not smooth. The "top sites" thing is just eye candy, no need for it to be 3D at all.
Also, where's the full screen functionality? I value my screen space. The latest Chrome nightlies have it, why can't the latest and greatest from Apple?
All in all, it's a no from here. Of course, I'm rarely in Windows anyway, so I'd not be using either Safari or Chrome. It seems visually inconsistent too, the tab bar being totally out of place against the rest of the frame.
Except the entirety of the frontend, with the exception of WebKit. (I'm not including the GNU toolkit and things like Apache, MySQL, PHP etc in this, since if it wasn't bundled you could add it anyway). Cocoa? Closed. All the consumer apps? Closed. Overall, OS X is a lot more closed and proprietary than FreeBSD, Linux et al, but is overall a lot more open than Windows.
Have to disagree on the Chrome thing, both Firefox and Chrome have their place (I happen to really like Chrome, it's fast and actually looks rather nice)
Oh really? I'm sure if you just dump a Mac on an "old person" (by that I assume you mean an older person that has never used a computer before) then they'd be just as clueless as to how to use the thing as if you threw a machine running Windows or Linux at them. They'd work it out eventually but then again someone using any GUI-based OS would.
That, as has been described before, is not the model LFS uses anyway. IIRC it was Scawen that said they'd never paid a penny for the rights to use a car in LFS. There's always been some sort of deal that doesn't involve the handing over of money. BMW are unlikely to agree such a deal for the M3, however
Pretty much as the title says. I've had this in both Vista and now 7 using the latest nvidia drivers (and a few before this). As soon as I enable my second monitor the card clocks up to full 3D clocks no matter if Aero is enabled etc. If I disable the second monitor it'll downclock again, but I'd rather not have to do that.
So, anyone got any idea at all what could be causing it?
Every single time I try a new keyboard I find myself going back to my old, old PS/2 one. You can't beat a proper microswitch under each key for feel. Makes a racket but oh so worth it.
EDIT: Back onto topic. No, I wouldn't buy a keyboard for a screen. I have 2 (rather larger) screens right in front of me, why would I want to divert my vision to look at a third, rather small, one? (That and the cost, the keyboard I have now cost me nothing and feels a hell of a lot better to type on than any other keyboard I've used.)
That wouldn't work due to differing boot loaders. You could theoretically do it between Vista and 7 if you edited the BCD config and did the change in Safe Mode after giving yourself permission to
EDIT: Back on topic - LFS in Windows 7 is rather lovely here - no wheel because of desk not wanting me to fit it, but frame rates are way up
