Quote from skstibi :Other than a slight whine in 5th, no. They normally do though.

I only had the truck for a few days and had not had the time to look it over before my sister took it for a 600 mile trip and it did not make the last 300. Ended up costing $2000 to put another trans in. That transmission is noisy, pain in the a** to get into gear, and grinds depending on its mood. 4 years later and I am tired of the POS that's in it and want the nice original back in it.

I've always trusted transmission sound. If it doesn't whine loudly, it has oil in it. Oh, I guess I was lucky.

Quote from skstibi :Have you ever wondered what happens when you believe a salesman when they say "All the fluids have been changed"? Well, this is what happens. They replaced the gear oil with a whole lot of air. Thank you Purifoy Chevrolet.

Note the discoloration on the outer bearing casing. Yeah, they get hot without any lube. Needless to say, that bearing does not spin anymore.
Result is a two piece input shaft. Amazingly the rest of the trans is perfect. The damn thing weighs more than a VW engine though.

Didn't transmission make loud noise while unlubricated?

Quote from jordyb :Certainly did, We drove 20 miles with a crumpled bonnet, no front bumper and the radiator scraping on the floor.

Much more fun than Goodwood imo.

Ouch. Well, at least it's good, that people weren't injured.

Well, I've located the power leak, and found out that door must be locked from the outside in order to be unlocked from there. The interior knob activates completely different lock. Everything's okay, I've just had some fun in the city lol.

I wonder if there was a paid witch in Moskvich factory to curse all the production, or was my car cursed somewhere else.

I had some stuff to do in the city centre. I sit in my moskvich to drive there. Battery is empty. I put in another battery - it hasn't got enough juice to activate starter relay, although it is charged. I take another car, jump start the moskvich. Everything seems to be going fine. I arrive at a petrol station, fill it up without shutting down the engine, and go to pay for petrol. My friend decides to try the car out. Stalls it. Luckily the moskvich starts again. The ampermeter (factory built-in!) shows that the generator is working fine and charging the battery. It's all okay. We drive trough the town, girls are waving to us and all the guys give us thumbs up. We honk horn and wave to people. We drive around, then the choke decides to act funny. Without choke the engine runs badly, with choke a bit retracted the whole street smells of petrol. Then we arrive to a shop and decide the battery must be charged enough, so we turn the engine off, lock the car and go into the shop. I ask for the item I need. It's not in stock. We go back to a car. The lock doesn't work, we can't open the car. We walk around it, swear loudly and kick the car. Then I opened the boot, and managed to remove rear seat trough it (bolts weren't tightened thankfully). We get in. The car doesn't start. F**k. We push it down the hill and bump-start it. It works. We then drive trough some parking lot, and some kids are sitting there and staring at my moskvich. I pop a donut and they give us thumbs up. Then the car decided it needs to idle at 2000rpm. Okay. I drove home, parked it and took the battery out.

The Soviet drama.

Quote from der butz :YAY!!!!

For some it's a shaky death trap, for others a dream classic
I've got a lamp under the bonnet too! The difference to yours would be that mine actually works and stops lighting the engine when you close it!

greetz

der butz

The lamp is working fine. Don't search for problems over there. In fact everything is working in the car, I was pleasantly suprised.

And it's not quite a classic, it was made in 1987, but the way they were made hasn't been changed since the 60s. Getting inside is like entering a time machine lol. World looks so cool trough those small windows.

Another good thing is, that Moskvich is quite heavy, and the whole engine is made from aluminum. This means that when the car falls apart, I can cut it to pieces and sell as scrap metal, and even get profit! Great!
Quote from Tinytacohead :Awesome description! (and color, haha) *First thing I read after I got up & I lol'd.

There was the same car, but white for sale in my town. Looks better, yes, but almost twice the price. I didn't feel like paying for color, and took this one. It's in great condition, so what the heck.

And I've just noticed how crappy the photos are, going to make some better ones someday.

Sold the peugeot, and decided to waste the money. This is currently the biggest nonsense I ever done.

Leaf springs in the rear, shock absorbers weren't working even in the factory, no power steering and tons of steering wheel free play. Also, non inertial seatbelts, weak brakes and crappy tyres. The Moskvich 2140 chassis is known to kill its occupants even on low speed impacts. This "car" is a real death on 4 wheels. Awesome.

At least it is rear wheel drive and fun to drive around, until either Moskvich breaks down, or you get killed.

Oh, and it has a lamp under the bonnet. Suck that, capitalists!

Quote from Rappa Z :This is the most incredulous load of crap I've ever read.

Everyone knows the earth is flat.

You are wrong. Earth is suitcase-shaped.

Sun seems to rise and set down in some stupid way right now, but it might have been like that all the time, and I didn't notice it.

So much better than the original.

Still uncomparable to original IMO. Not that bad tho, as it's difficult to ruin a good song, but...

Quote from Mackie The Staggie :Can't blame the ref on that one, he cant make that call from where he was so would have to rely on the assistants, and mainly the one on the line who did nothing.

Tell that to an angry crowd lol. No one remembered the face of the assistant, but everybody knows the referee. With great power comes great responsibility.
