The age of the cyclist was definately relevant. But I've personally been in numerous sitations, when I noticed the biker only when he has already passed me. I always double check my mirrors for bikers before maneouvring. I just wanted to say, that driver must alway be careful and you can't rely only on sound.

My cousin has killed a man while riding a bike with loud pipe. The old guy was riding a bicycle and crossing a road, didn't hear the approaching bike, and jumped in front of the motorbike. Loud pipe didn't save his life. In rural area there's nothing to reflect the sound, so it's only possible to hear a bike from behind.
I mean bikes are great, I ride a bike too, but while riding you must rely on your head and senses, and not on your exhaust pipe. Of course it's safer with a loud pipe, but it doesn't guarantee 100% safety.
Not quite. A bike approaching at high speed is impossible to hear in an open area. It's only possible to hear a a bike if there are houses or something else to reflect the sound, or the bikes rear is facing you (this means the bike has already overtook you). Of course slight chance of surviving is better than no chance.

Got myself a 1987 pug 205 1.1 . Still thinking whether to keep it or to get rid of it. Body is in great condition, and it runs quite nice. Engine is working a bit funny, but I guess it's because of standing still for two years so new spark plugs and cleaning the carb should do the trick. It's not a 1.9 GTI, but it's still pretty fun to drive, massively underpowered, but fun in the corners.
I don't know a better place to ask, so I'll ask here. Found a philips ap191 amp in a pile of crap. Has anyone else had any experience with those? Are those old philips audio components any good? It seems to be not in working condition, I've connected power to it, and illumination didn't turn on. If it appears to be broken, is it worth the fuss to fix it, or should I throw it away?

Aren't engine mounts placed different on 1.3 and 1.6/1.8 engines? You'll need to have some cutting/welding done.
