Two of the three people (me and unseen) from the old site are also working on the new one. The old site went offline because the owner disappeared and stopped paying for the hosting. I am not going to disappear and have given other people sufficient access to the site so that it can function even without me.
After the sudden disappearance of the old LFS-Database, many racers have wanted a replacement. Bose321 worked hard on a replacement, however me and Flame CZE were sure that there is much to be improved compared to his solution.
We have been developing yet another site for community made LFS content. Progress has been very good and in three months a completely new site has been built from scratch with the needs of the LFS community specifically in mind. While we are still uploading the best bits and pieces of the old LFS-Database and there are still many features to be finished, the site is ready for usage. We are proud to think that this is the best site for LFS files ever.
And so it is that we can announce the public beta test of LFS DATABASE.
LFS Database will be opened for public on Monday, 30th August
We also want to thank all the alpha testers who have helped us with suggestions and testing.
Exactly what he said. By giving infractions to people saying that something exists is illogical, as the rules merely say posting links to them is not allowed. The moderators are "employed" to avoid people breaking the rules. Their tasks DO NOT include making up new rules.
I have been pissed off by illogical moderator action once before in the last month. Who exactly is discussing this 'illegal' software going to hurt? It's not like people who want to find out won't otherwise. LFS is not going to lose sales because of people cracking some other game. The developers won't be harassed by the police.
All this is censorship at its best. Something which is not ok with their view of the world -> Delete/Close and give the culprit an infraction, or even better, downright ban him.
Maybe every thread speaking about drugs should be closed too? The thread about mexican mafia. We don't want people to know that such things exist now do we? If they find out we'll soon have mafias here too! Welcome to the USSR.
Asking a licensed user to upload your skins is not allowed in these forums.
Nowhere is it mentioned that uploading a skin by demo user's request is not allowed. As Degats said - you have paid for the slots bandwidth and can do anything you want with them.
I decided to stop this db because it's pointless. The necessary features should be integrated in the forum - enforced tags in the thread title '[WIP], [REL], [REQ]'. And somehow enforced tags describing the layout one would have to choose from.
I don't usually post on these marketing topics telling the devs what to do, but here goes.
There is a big opinion saying that improving the game itself would be much better than porting it to something else with all the people being nice and thinking about how Scawen would get more money.
What everyone seems to somehow forget is that porting to mac is very likely to get more buyers than some new physics.
Doing such a thing would mean LFS losing one of its best features.
LFS also has a very unique demo community. Put some kinds of limits on the demo and demo leagues are history. Demo leagues are history and demo racers won't really have a good understanding of the wonderful leagues in S2.
There have been many demoers for whom it took many years to buy S2. Some people need more time to decide or gather the money. If the demo is locked after a short time, it is likely that they lose interest.
And then there's the fact that if not only the licenced content is locked but also the DEMO content is locked, many more people will start looking for cracks or workarounds, which is likely to lead them into unlocking all of the content. This will change the current demo community into an underground movement and may even lead to another master server for crackers. And with all the content available, S2 doesn't seem so attractive anymore
All in all, having a no-limits demo is very good as demo users have time to really get to know the game itself and the community playing it.
This would be very interesting if only implemented for one car/class. While it would decrease really close racing, it would definitely increase the amount of passes. But it would definitely be interesting in small amounts.
