Quote from Niels Heusinkveld :rFactor is NOT improving Lococost! LFS is improving slowly, like the gearbox improvements we have now. rFactors base code has been the same for years, most of it comes from F1 2000 which came out in 1999..

The quality of the mods might improve a bit but the actual physics code has basically remained the same for years.

OK Niels, sorry, I expressed myself wrong then, I meant that the good newer mods seemed to handle better, for me that's improvement.

For the 'feel' thing, you'll find as many Rf drivers saying LFS 'feels' wrong as you have LFS players saying RF 'feels' wrong, but anyway, just wanted to backup what Tweaker said, now I'm out before this turns into another useless Rf-LFS bashing thread.

Quote from Tweaker :Yet time and time again, when you can so easily pass this comment to try and stop an argument in its tracks, it fails to recognize the fact that the word "finished" is such an overstatement with how current development is progressing, and if you look at the overall value of truly 'waiting' until it is 'finished'. LFS will always be a 'package' you have to look at. S2 Final seems to be nearing more and more, and what else are we getting that is new besides the usual grooming of this old cat?

Have we had any new track environments in the past 3 years? No. Have the cars been given more external detail, so they don't look like matchbox cars? No. Has Scawen been doing a good job keeping this simulation alive? Yes, indeed. Other than that, the only hope for this game to not drag on and on with the same old stuff is to make it look better... and give us some new tracks. Then you get the usual "oh that is what S3 is for" crap. Gimme a break, I'll probably have a family to take care of by then. Quite a long outlook.

What does this have to do with the BF1? Everything. The BF1 looks rushed, hasn't been touched since, looks terrible, and can be improved in so many ways, including the physics. Furthermore, if you put it versus rFactor, you can see the obvious differences that LFS falls short with... no matter how many times you can say what is finished or unfinished, it stills says a lot about efforts. And to be so ignorant and think LFS looks fine already as it is, you should really explore around more.

How impressive do you think S2 is really going to be? How full of shit are you?
(not directed at you, but a serious note)

EDIT: I am sure all of us here get a good LFS fix every now and then, I do too. It's just that there are certain things which are getting older and older... Imagine from an outsider's perspective: It's like a senile old man saying his work-in-progress wood carving is superior to anything else out there. Keep carving old man!!!

Good post Tweaker!

The thing is, Rfactor is improving at a much faster rate then LFS is. There are good mods out there with decent physics and they will keep on coming. Mainly what keeps me in LFS is the ease of pick-up races, something that doesnt really work in Rfactor. If LFS doesnt improve, soon we'll be stuck with something like GPL, great phisics, but just too outdated.

why can't we just have virtual side mirrors and get it over with?

Quote from Linsen :Now that's a comprehensive guide to proper sequential shifting!

Missed that on the other thread, thx a lot!

That's basically what I comprehensively wrote above in an answer to your question

The LFS cars above use dog boxes (not sure about the F1). IRL this is how you shift:
To shift up, You put some pressure on the shifter, release the throttle, then you'll FEEL you can move the shifter, so you slam the shifter into the next gear and get back on the throttle. You don't use a clutch. You could use the clutch but you'll just wear it out, it has no advantage.
As shotglass said, in a more advanced system with some basic electronics, you don't even need to get off the throttle, the electronics detect when you move the shifter, cuts the ignition and all you do is slam it into the next gear, with your foot flat on the throttle.

To downshift you do use the clutch, just like a normal box. You can use a bit of throttle when you get into the next gear, but that's for stablising the back end. You can do clutchless downshifts with throttle blip, but it's a very precise work, it isn't recommended and is usually associated with a bit of intervening electronics.

What doesn't work IMO is the way the upshift is simulated in the FBM, because you can't FEEL when you've selected the next gear, so I find myself trying to get into next gear and it works sometimes but not always. I have no idea when i'm supposed to get back on the throttle, can't even hear it. For me it's a very unrewarding uninituative system.
I would like to hear how other deal with it. I'm sure there is a way to shift fast without ever missing a gear.

Quote from tristancliffe :
Look again, think a bit, and you'll come to the other, correct, conclusion. It's REALLY basic mechanics. The only thing that's complicated is trying to imagine the stress distribution on such a short ARB, but I wouldn't expect most to be sitting there doing that...

I stand corrected.

The tube might be hollow and have a mechanism inside, that lets the top bit rotate if enough force is applied. If so it would be easely adjustable.

Quote from J.B. :I'm not sure why you think the rollbar can't twist? I've added another arrow in the picture to show how it is supposed to twist. It's the vertical bar Tristan was referring to. And I can assure you there are no torsion bars in the rockers. I've looked at the pictures and they are perfectly normal rockers, just as on any other race car.

If that's the ARB, it moves in the wrong direction... (left suspension goes in, would mean right suspension goes out, so you'ld have a rollbar, not antirollbar) So, it's not, bad speculation guys. Looks like there's only the one monoshock for accelleration/decelleration and no movement side to side (cant see any springwashers), so no need for ARB, but that's a guess, not a fact.

thanks Scawen!

Apart from the FB02, are there any other changes in the CMX viewer car wise?

wow 40 quid! Go for it mate! I agree on the brakes, they do take a beating. If you're scared of the car taking damage, you don't have to drive constantly (I presume), I've been to the ring a couple of times and I only drove a couple of laps a day, that may not seem like a lot, but together with all the off track spectating and taking in all your driving experiences it is great. Man, 40 quid, why dont I live in Brittan.

2 things spring to mind:
Using standard skins will make everything blend, why not stick to our own skins and have some individuality?
What about passing? if someone makes a stupid mistakeRB4and doesn't want others to get by, it'll get pretty hectic, maybe something like a full course blue flag could be enforced?

Arch I have a 8800GTX and a dualcore [email protected], still only get 15 to 20 with high settings, Guess the only way is to go SLI then?

Also had to resort back to the 163 drivers (thnx for the tip bladerunner), the beta drivers gave nothing but trouble. I do love the game, ran trough the demo 3 times, detail is just amazing even if it it is only DX9!

Before this turns into a flame war vs Bawbag, Its a joke people! do a search on bagbag!, no its not a good joke anymore now and I should have used the sarcastic smily, wasnt a good joke in the first place anyway

Bagbag is still the worst driver in the world <-see, but never had any problems with Bawbag, we did some nice races together on the nations cup I think, all fun, and he flies by me from time to time now and then . He's just a big soft cuddly bear really, He wont admit it though
