You don't get it.
People who are doing such things don't care at all about damages and penalties.
They do it either for having a fast lap time or to annoy (I'm polite) another driver on purpose.
Only way to stop this is to add a physical barrier so they can't cut the corner anymore.

F1 also had some weird crashes.
Here is the most famous one:

Quote from wheel4hummer :How about just make it really rough so that after cutting the corner a few laps in a row, you get considerable suspension damage?

It works like that already but some people just don't care about damages.
That's the reason why we had to add a tyre barrier.

The problem also exists on some other tracks, for instance Kyoto (National and GP).

Quote from Lotesdelere :When LFS is in windowed mode using Shift+F4, I have a huge FPS drop when I hover one of the icons in the task bar as long as the little popup showing the full name of the application is displayed.

FYI I've found the culprit ones: AA and AF.
In the ATI drivers if I set the global quality control slider to the middle (balanced) and if I set AA and AF to automatic mode (application preference), then reboot, the problem is gone: there is no FPS drop anymore when the info balloons are displayed.

Quote from CharlieP :Any chance someone can mirror this patch somewhere else and make it something other than 7-zip..... I cannot unpack this file and have had similar problems with other 7-zip archives..... even though I have 7-zip installed ?!

Quote from Scawen :That's just some weird Windows bug, it takes nearly all your CPU power to display one of those tiny hovering info baloons.

However I don't get this FPS drop in other DirectX apps such as games, media players and DVB viewers, when the info baloons are displayed.
But whilst I don't get FPS drop at all in Windows Media Player and VLC, I do get FPS drop in Media Player Classic while watching at the same video. MPC is set to use WMR9 Renderless so I wonder if FPS drop in LFS might be an overlay problem.
CPU usage increase is 'only' about 3% when the baloons are displayed.

I was fiddling with the graphics settings and I've just noticed something:

When LFS is in windowed mode using Shift+F4, I have a huge FPS drop when I hover one of the icons in the task bar as long as the little popup showing the full name of the application is displayed.
Vsync is set to OFF in both video drivers and LFS.

Quote from zockmachine :if i lower the car volume, and leave the tire sound at the maximum, the tire sound gets lower, too. Would it be possible to fix this anyhow, so that i can hear the tires loud and clear ?

I second that, let us make the sound balance we want

Great, thanks a lot

Although tonight I notice more connections problems to the server than usual.
Either it takes a long time before the player can finally join and some regulars are losing connection during the race whilst they usually don't.
Server is still running on V patch. This doesn't prove anything though, but two players complained about having connection problems due to V3, claiming they didn't have these troubles with previous patch (V or V2).

The /rstend command allows us to avoid early restarts after the end of a race (which is good) but it doesn't avoid to start a qualify session.

Quote from AndroidXP :I mean, open source is good and all, but my experience with it was, that it is by far the most unintuitive and user-unfriendly piece of software I've ever seen.

Open source is made by programers with a programer point of view, so sometimes it's not as intuitive as some other apps.
However The Gimp is full featured and it's free.

Quote from the_angry_angel :Now that it's been mentioned, I resetup my wheel the other day and had a quick bash online, for the first time in a few weeks. I must say that whilst I know I was using the same set as the late U patches and the same force settings, things did feel lighter. Now that could be entirely my imagination.

You are not alone. I've experienced the exact same behaviour with my DFP and I also thought it was my imagination

But about 60% of the people driving on ConeDodgers servers had to update from T-U and 90% of these people did feel a change in the steering and/or FFB.
Even the keyboard drivers, and we have some good and fast ones, have been a bit lost for some days and had to fiddle with their steering settings.

Quote from Scawen :I think colour codes are correctly ignored. But codepage changes are not ignored. If you can find a reproducable case where one seems wrong, I'd like to know about it.

Join one of the ConeDodgers servers, say [CD] ConeDodgersRacing1
Leave it, its name is now stored in the Join Specific Game input box.
Click on the name box, remove the "1" at the end and try to enter a "3" to join [CD] ConeDodgersRacing3
You can't type in the "3".

Quote from AtomAnt :The 213.40.196.103 doesn't help as you cannot open any windows/system32/drivers with notepad to edit.

There is no Hosts file by default on Windows 98/ME but a \Windows\Hosts.sam
This is the one you have to edit.
And save it as Hosts without any extension (take care that Notepad may add a .TXT extension which might not be visible depending on your folder view settings) and reboot.

Quote from Scawen :By the way, version U won't work any more. You'll need U30 or later because they use DNS lookup instead of fixed IP - and that is the change which allowed us to move the master server.

This is a very important information and this new requirement should be stickied
