Quote from matze54564 :the new small pedal-bars are a bit 2 small for me.

I agree, as they are now they are even a bit useless, especially on CRT's.

Are you using large fonts with a resolution >= 120 ppi instead of the 96 ppi standard ones ?

And check what Romus74 said, does it work fine at 800*600 ?

Not a big deal though as www.lfsforum.net works fine but I have my bookmarks set to lfsforum.net.

Quote from Gunn :So does that mean that when I want to put my mates', high res skins into LFS that I have to put them into my skins folder - meaning that anytime I want to choose a skin for myself I now have a huge list of skins to browse through, skins that I never use?

Good question.

We have enforced the blue flag rule on ConeDodgers servers. Our servers our rules.

We have very fast drivers on CD1, from many different teams and even 'freelance' drivers, people who can do 1:39.xx or low 1:40.xx laps and D.I.M.O. is one of them. Check the !top command.
For doing such fast laps these guys are always driving on the edge and sometimes, not that often but it happens at least 2-3 times a day, the final gap between the guys on the podium at the end of a 17+ minutes race is less than 0.05.

There are some critical places on AS3 such as T1 and the last chicane where you can win or lose a race and where there is only one fast racing line, this is the reason why we ask people under blue flag to give the racing line to the faster drivers.

We have nothing against slower drivers, everyone is welcome on ConeDodgers servers as long as they have a clean and fair driving, but yes, we ask them when they are under blue flag to give the racing line to the faster drivers.

Quote from DeadWolfBones :The thing that keeps me from getting too worked up about these wants is that I just love the feeling of playing LFS, even in its current, unfinished state. Tonight, for example, I dropped in on the CHOPS Sunday Cup race without any practice and had a great battle that ended with me making up 12+ seconds in 7 or 8 laps and making the pass on the final turn of the final lap. My heart was pounding, I was sweating, and my hands were stuck in a clenching position for an hour after the race. And this was a race for third place!

Quote from Ball Bearing Turbo :because LFSs dynamics are just that good that I come back for more no matter what.

Yeah!

Quote from matze54564 :A sort-ability should help to find the wanted player a lot faster.

Good idea, but the network bars still must match with the connections list order because it's a very usefull and fast way for admins to spot on the people who are lagging.

Quote from DaveWS :Strangely though, if you use a sample with a very broad frequency range, LFS doesn't like it at all, and you get constant clipping. This is why I played around with different bandpass filters to get the best range.

Some tools you may find usefull:

Quote from DaveWS :when I made the sample for the RAC from white noise, first I put it through a specifically set band pass filter to get a reasonable tone in LFS

Have you tried to use a pink noise instead of a white noise ?
I feel you may get more body overall and also, maybe, you'll get rid of this synthetic thingy at high revs.

Just an idea

First backup your registry with ERUNT.
Donwload the .REG file from this page and run it.
Reboot.
The result is that you will see the new process flashing in the taskbar but the focus won't be stealed.
Notice that some apps use some kind of over the top forced window and in this case I'm afraid there is nothing you can do.

WinKill can help you to kill a process by using the command line interface. Read the help file included.

Quote from Fischfix :i think one of the best improvements which helps with frame rate is to reduce the quality of the mirrors.

Quote from AndroidXP :Resolution seemed to not affect fps at all, so I guess it's LOD you're talking about?

I have both U30 and W17 installed on the same HDD of the same computer. I've spent time to be sure both versions are using the same settings (also applied Scawen's LOD magical math formula).
Now in single player mode, AS National, on the starting grid W17 had about 10 FPS less than U30 but has about 15-20 FPS more on the back straight. Vsync is OFF in both LFS and the video drivers, no FPS limit applied in LFS.
So is it about LOD or hi res mirrors ? In all cases disabling all mirrors gives in a huge FPS boost, of course.
Maybe, for testing purposes, put back on the option to disable hi res mirrors ?

Quote from Tweaker :The cars aren't always the reason for FPS drops though, I blame it on the tracks for being pretty detailed... The tracks cause a lot of FPS drops. Heck, even on my slow system, the last chicane on Aston National is really undriveable with the lowest possible graphics settings and no other cars present.

Many players have complained about that since patch V. For a while we thought that the anti cheat tyres barrier we have added was the culprit one but removing it didn't help.

Quote from Ian.H :The other thing as mentioned, WTF does LFS act like a women with connections and only be able to do one thing at a time? Why can't someone connect and someone pit?

http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=16019
I still believe that, with the current netcode, priority should be given to race events and not to players connecting or leaving.
Especially when the countdown for a new race has started it should never be stopped by a player connecting to the server, it sometimes takes ages to get enough votes to start a new race on populated servers.

Quote from geeman1 :LFS is a hardcore sim, so the only mode is the hardcore mode

This is BS, maybe 20-25% of the licenced users are hardcore racing drivers.
Lot of people just want to have fun for an hour after a hard day at work or even only once a week and they just don't care about stupid options like pressing on a button to 'simulate' a clutch, as if it could be realistic.
If they can't reset they will simply leave the server and/or the game.

Because yes, still it's a video game.
You won't stop people from drifting if they want to do so, you won't stop people from playing cops and robbers or from cruising on some carribean coast.
It's up to the servers owners to decide what kind of options they want to use.

Not to mention that not everyone can afford a G25. Lot of people are using a mouse or even a keyboard and LFS is an expensive game in some countries and/or for some people.
It would even be a big mistake from Scawen to ignore this large part of the licenced users: the gamers. Nothing worst for any kind of industry to aim at one (group of) customer only. The more audience LFS will have, the best it will be for everyone.

Edit:
Bit OT for the test patch thread, sorry about that.
Remove/move this post if needed.

Quote from DEVIL 007 :regarding the damage and tires its a feature.
There are now to possibilities:
"arcade" - so everything is reseted
"simulation" - nothing is reseted as well when you flip the car its not reseted.

There was already suggestion to incluide the middle option as was before that only car position reset so you can still continue with damage

And I still believe this mid option is needed because there are some people who don't bother with boring realistic stuff :P

We have lost the growl we had in U-U30 versions.
And the growl is really missing on the big powerfull engines like the FZR and the BF1 ones.

Quote from deggis :Do you mean Patch U sounded better? I don't understand who so many people still prefer the old sounds... I mean in general not only BF1.

I still prefer the FZR and BF1 sounds from U-U30 and overall I prefer how the general ambiance / environment sounds in U-U30 than it does in V-W+.
Example: when I'm in pits at Westhill, with U-U30 I can hear the sounds of the cars coming on the back straight but I don't hear these sounds at all with V-W.
I can hardly hear some of my own sounds (horn, skid) and I don't hear them at all from other cars.

Quote from Hyperactive :With the new bad sounds my ears were bleeding all the time

Indeed, same here.
Lack of body / low frequencies, everything seems so compressed / muffled.

Quote from Hyperactive :The sound editor is good...but imho just the volume sliders for different sounds would have been enough.

I second that, let us make the sound balance we want.

Quote from DaveWS :LX4 dual layer.zip

Quote from DaveWS :LX4 dual layer.zip

I like the LX4 sound a lot!
That's the kind of sound I expect for the FZR.
Would be nice if you could post the .eng file

There is some kind of high pitched loop in the LX6 sound that doesn't please me though

Quote from deggis :BF1 is probably as good as it gets with the current stuff... or is it?

Do you still have patch U installed ? Compare patch U and patch V/W BF1 sounds and tell me which one sounds more like a F1.

Quote from deggis :And FZ50/FZR... that's the other "bad" sounding. It lacks that kind of "soft" Porsche scream... you know what I mean

The FZR is the car I'm driving the most. Its sound definitely lacks balls and growl.

Quote from Ian.H :but now, everything's a damn echo!

Not only that but now everything sounds muffled and lacks body.
The whole sound balance is f*cked, it's even hard to hear my own horn! Although when I compare the patch U horn RAW sounds with the patch W corresponding WAV ones, they have the same volume and amplitude.
It's hard to hear other cars close to me, skid sounds are almost inaudible, I don't hear anymore the sound from other cars brushing a wall behind me, etc...
Patch U sounds may not be accurate but at least the whole thing sounded 'alive'. I have to admit I'm disappointed by the new sounds. It may technically be an improvement but the global result is poor

Quote from Adampell :You hit them, it will soften the impact.

Yes but they should be hold by some kind of net, so it'll keep the softness but the tyres won't fly and roll all over the track.
No flying tyres
Lotesdelere

These 'soft' tyres barriers placed in some critical chicanes (Aston, Westhill) are so annoying because the tyres are flying around and rolling all over the track when someone hit them. I haven't seen such thing on a race track since the 50's.
One hour ago my car literally lifted off like a plane on one of these tyres and thus ruined my race.

Keep the 'soft' barriers but please, no flying/rolling tyres anymore
