Quote from Bose321 :Does logitech also send cogs?

More to the point, do they send out the gut's for the wheel and pedals? Maybe if they made them a bit better my G25 would last longer than 5 minutes.

Quote from dawesdust_12 :Pot's aren't really unreliable, nor are they hard to change.

I also love how my question on the quality of Fanatec's warranty was passed by without answer... probably because it can't match Logitech's quality of warranty at all.

I have never used Logitech or Fanatec's warranty/help etc so Im not in a position to answer that

Quote from Bose321 :I agree with you on that. I have a G25 for ages, and in the begin it was nice, but now (like all my Logitech wheels) they start to break. I mean bigtime. Cogs, plastic snapping, h-shifter doing weird, alot noise.

So once my G25 is dead, the fanatec is #1 thing I will buy. Logitech is fun IMO, but it just doesn't last. They use cheap plastic crap, and pot-meters, which suck.

And the fanatec looks sexy, orange with Porsche logo, and those pedals... <3

Thats the main reason I won't be buying Logitech again, pot meters. They are rubbish! So many people have had them break or go funny (like mine, throttle jumps about).

The Fanatec way of using a Magnet system is not only more reliable but also more accurate

Quote from dawesdust_12 :I've had my G25 since launch, and do you wanna know how many times I've used it in sequential mode?

0.

Zilch.

Nada.

I find more use in paddles if I'm gonna drive a sequential shift car. I don't see how the Fanatec pedals are anything different than the Logitech ones. Give me something with Load-cells, and it'll be awesome, but at at this point, what's different other than a few springs to vary the weight of the pedal?

Also, I've heard some great storys on people recieving their Fanatec wheels. Such as 6 month delays, and this isn't like on launch, this is RECENTLY... I'm pretty sure I'd take a G25 or G27 when I can get it overnight (at fastest) to 3 days (at slowest) from a selection of retailers.

Also, I'm sure that your wording change matters nothing, as you've just made sure to say that "OWNERS OF FANATEC WHEELS THINK THEIR PIECE OF CRAP IS BETTER THAN A LOGITECH WHEEL!", when if most sim racers think Fanatec wheels are better than Logitech ones, why do a majority of wheel users own a Logitech wheel?

Well lot's of people do miss that feature

Also I mean that people who own a wheel now, seem to prefer an upgrade of a Fanatec wheel over the Logitech. Of course Logitech have more users, they have been around a long time!

Quote from dawesdust_12 :I doubt "a lot" of people feel that way, when if you polled sim racers with wheels, most of them (I'd say 95%) are using a Logitech wheel, then there's some using Thrustmaster, Microsoft Wheels, crappy no-name ones. Then maybe a few morons using a Fanatec wheel.

I still can't get over the shifter on the Fanatec wheels. It looks like a piece of garbage, although the whole wheel is over priced as you're not paying for the wheel. You're paying for the Porsche branding.

Let me re-phrase that: "Imo alot of Sim Racers see the Fanatec as a better upgrade over a G25 than a G27."

The pedals are in a league of there own! Sure you pay for branding but the wheel is just as good as the G27. Although I do agree the shifter isn't exactly great from what I have heard.

The G27 is a quiet G25 with a few extra buttons, same crappy pot based pedals with a silly pedal moving feature and they take a backwards step by removing the sequential shifter. Not much of an improvement in my eyes, eh?

Quote from dawesdust_12 :Someone needs to write an application for it.

Nobody has yet, as most people who bought G25's, think it's a minimal upgrade to buy a G27.

Imo alot of us feel for a similar price the Fanatec 911 GT3 RS Clubsport Edition is alot better.

The problem with the Skippy for me is the brakes :/ Even at 54% balance any more than a quarter brake pressure and they lock up on me!

Can't wait till the licence upgrades happen, as soon as Im C class I can finally race the Star Mazda and Radical

Quote from PLAYAPIMP :Isn't the max you can see if 4gb even if you have like 8 or 12 gigs running? I'm a noob with PC's just have heard that alot. Or maybe its the 32 vs 64 bit thing idk

The max my mobo can run is 16GB but if you don't have 64bit OS it will only recognise 3.5GB

New gaming Rig

Thermaltake Soprano Black Case
Intel Core i5 750 @ 2.6Ghz
Arctic Freezer Pro rev.2
Asus P7P55D-Pro i5 Motherboard
8GB OCZ DDR3-1333Mhz w/Heatsink
ATI Radeon 4870 1GB
500GB Samsung F3 16mb Cache HDD
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

Only problem atm is 4GB of the ram seems to be faulty :/

Didn't go too mad with this build, I only really play racing sim's and I might get FSX at some point too. If I need more speed in the future that I will just OC the CPU and get a new Radeon 5870 1GB when they come down in price

Quote from Gabkicks :I'm a fool. Just ordered an x58 motherboard, 3sticks ddr3 ram, and an i7 920 processor -_-

Will be a great system for multi-tasking, rendering etc

Won't notice that much of a difference in games though, unless DX11 will take advantage of it!

Still good buy though

Quote from Bose321 :Then why the hell do you need such a rig if you only play racing games?

I dont wanna have to replace it in a years time (well maybe the GPU but thats it).

I use a 24" screen at 1920 x 1200 so that kills some performance plus I run everything with max AA/AF.

Its quite suprising how much juice iRacing needs to run at full with AA/AF.

Need it to run rFactor 2 and maybe the Codemaster F1 game if its not like their usual crap "sim" games

Core i5 is less money that the Core 2 Quad 9950 so that was an easy choice, will be great for multi-tasking in Win 7 and Football Manager too

Quote from Gabkicks :Crysis likes high clockspeeds and is very gpu intensive. GTA IV likes quadcores and is very cpu intensive.

w/ y moverclocked e8400 and 5850, I'll get better framerates in Crysis than you, but you'll smack me around like I stole something in GTA IV, because you have a quadcore.

I wont miss playing GTA and Crysis anyway, will just play my racing games

Got my Xbox 360 for playing FPS with mates

Decided on this for my new rig setup:

Intel Core i5 2.66GHZ OEM
Coolmaster Hyper TX3 CPU Cooler
Gigabyte GA-P55-US3L Intel P55 Socket 1156
Patriot Viper 4GB PC3-10666 1333MHZ
XFX ATI Radeon HD4870 1GB DDR5
500GB Samsung Spinpoint F3 Sata II
650W TX Corsair PSU
Windows 7 64bit (Arrived)
Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 OEM

Will add another 4GB of DDR3 and a Blu-Ray player after I get my new Wheel

Decided i7 is pure overkill for what I need and i5 is better than Core 2 Quad Also decided on a 4870 1GB, reason being I only play sim racing games along with a bit of CSS and Football Manager.

Im pretty sure this will handle rFactor 2, the Codemaster F1 game (IF its a sim :P) and any updates for LFS and NKP!

Quote from Crommi : Edit: By the way, what kind of system you currently have and what is actually broken?
It's waste of money to buy new computer everytime single piece of hardware breaks down, which doesn't happen very often.
Over the past 15 years, I've had 1 broken HDD and couple fans with worn-out bearings.

My OCZ 600watt PSU (which has quite a good reputation) let me down by failing on me and taking everything with it!

Before I had an AMD X2 with 4GB DDR2, ATI 4870 512mb, 250GB HDD Sata II and Vista X64.
New Gaming Rig

Hello all,

I am planning on having a new gaming rig within the next month after my PC died quite a while back! So far I have this:

Thermaltake Soprano - Black
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz @ 3.6GHZ
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 PRO (Socket LGA775)
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3LR iP45 Socket 775
Sapphire Radeon 5870 1GB
2x 320Gb Samsung HD322HJ F1 SATA
2x OCZ 4GB PC2-8500 DDR2 1066MHz Gold Dual Channel (2x2GB)
Corsair 750W TX Series PSU
Akasa AK-ICR-01B internal Card Reader

Already have DVD-RW and Windows 7 64bit on the way.

Intel Core i7 is too expensive and i5 doesn't have hyperthreading and less cache than the 9950? It also needs more expensive DDR3 (Can get 8GB DDR2 for the price of 4GB DDR3)

I need it to play GTA and Crysis well along with future games coming out such as rFactor 2, Dirt 2 etc at 1920x1200. It should run LFS, rFactor, NKP etc easily with AA/AF at max

Opinions?

Matt.

Edit:// Budget is around £900 as I have got to put £300 away for the nice Fanatec GT3 RS Clubsport Edition as my Logitech G25 died just before my PC did! Talk about double whammy
