And some people say touring cars is full of dirty 'banger racing' type driving... F1 this season has been full of it so far, while being completely boring in the process!!!

Quote :WELCOME TO THE GREEN HELL - GTR Evolution announced
‘GTR Evolution’ for PC from SimBin Delivers Horsepower-Heavy GT and WTCC Extreme Cars, plus Germany’s Notorious Nordschleife Circuit
SimBin Studios AB today announced the forthcoming release of GTR Evolution. Developed by the multiple award winning Swedish studio SimBin Development Team and published by SimBin Studios AB, GTR Evolution takes GT and WTCC Extreme cars to the Green Hell of Nordschleife, the holy grail of racing. Available as a stand alone game and also as an expansion pack for SimBin’s 2007 title RACE 07, GTR Evolution is scheduled for launch in 2008.
In addition to many other tracks, players of GTR Evolution will drive the modern version of the monumental track of Nürburgring Nordschleife along with the Nürburgring GP layout. Dubbed “The Green Hell” by racing legend Jackie Stewart, the track is revered and feared as the most difficult and treacherous track ever built.
“As the first PC game developer to get exclusive access to this track for reference, SimBin has been given a solid ground to work from and we hope that we will be able to give our fans a real hell, so to speak”, said Jay Ekkel with a smile, Producer at SimBin Development Team AB.
GTR Evolution for PC comes with 22 GT car models in 3 different classes plus a selection of exclusive production cars. Further to this SimBin adds WTCC Extreme, tuned concept cars based on the FIA WTCC cars.
“With rear wheel drive, extended body-kits and over 600hp the WTCC Extreme cars will give the GT cars a run for their money, said Diego Sartori, Creative Director at SimBin Studios AB.
GTR Evolution will be available as a stand alone game including all RACE 07 content, all in all 49 unique cars in 12 classes with over 500 variations and 19 tracks in over 40 different layouts including the new and legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife. A GTR Evolution expansion pack for existing owners of RACE 07 will also be available.
“This is the biggest game ever from SimBin and a must have for all gamers and we hope that GTR Evolution will satisfy all race fans since it is packed with a broad variety of cars and new features that should attract the gamer that wants to have it all in one high quality game”, says Henrik Roos, CEO of the SimBin Group of companies.
Scheduled for launch in 2008, GTR Evolution is distributed by Atari in Europe, Viva Media in the US and Akella in Russia. The release is scheduled for 2008 with detailed info to follow.

Thanks for the tips.

I don't really want to go down the Crossfire route as I'm not a fan of ATI cards at all - had far too many bad experiences with them in the past to even think about buying another and I've never had a single problem with nvidia cards.

I was thinking along the SLI route so I can get an 8xxx series card with SLI compatability, then when I need more graphics 'umph' I'd get another one to add to it as I don't really have the money to splash out on top notch stuff straight away (downside to owning a car).

As for the processor, I was thinking along the lines of the C2D E6550 - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130485

I'm not so interested in overclocking as I've never really been a fan of it to start with anyway, but maybe if I want to squeeze that little bit more power out of it I might have a look at it. I'm not too fussed about RAID, if I have it, great, if not, I don't mind.

My current set-up with hard drives is:
1x 250GB IDE - Windows install and all programs/game installs
1x 80GB IDE - music
1x 160GB SATA - Storage
1x 250GB SATA - Storage

The 250GB IDE is still fairly new, so ideally I want to keep that, but if I can't get a motherboard with enough PATA then I'll put this HDD in a caddy and use it as external storage.
Motherboard question

Now as a computer technician I should probably know this, but as at work I only deal with AMD motherboards/CPUs, I don't have much hands-on experience of newer Intel based motherboards/CPUs.

My P4 system is slowly dying and I want to replace it with a C2D when I have the money, however I have a question regarding 2 motherboards.

ASUS P5N-E - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/125082
and
ASUS P5N-D - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/142585

Which board is the better value for money? I want to spend under £100 on a decent motherboard if at all possible.

If there's any alternatives then I'll listen to them, but I want a board with SLI compatibility and if possible 2x ATA ports on it.Although I can live without 2 if needs be.

Quote from ajp71 :You probably aren't the typical person that BTCC is trying to appeal to though, I know quite a few people who have no interest in motor racing (except going to watch bangers) who like BTCC (and some who routinely go and watch) who certainly don't understand the concept of clean racing and like seeing contact and crashes. I think the fact that these people consider BTCC just another form of banger racing says it all. I'm not saying touring cars shouldn't be a legitimate form of motorsport just in this current guise you can't really call it true motorsport, if they did that kind of thing at other meetings they be permanently up before the clerk of the course and half of them would be banned. I had the pleasure of watching a days worth of clean and very close racing at Donington last week, far closer than the touring cars can race because drivers are able to trust each other in a days racing there were only two pieces of contact, only one of which ended somebodies race, every race I watched yesterday had either a red flag or multiple safety cars.

The question isn't whether you like BTCC it's would you rather see less contact? If you like seeing cars hitting each other and drivers barging each other out of the way then may I suggest you'd be better off going and watching at your local banger track, it's a far safer and cheaper way to get the same entertainment.

I must say what you presume the fans of the BTCC to be are completely wrong, I'd say more people watch F1, just because they're fast cars than people watch BTCC because of the aparent 'banger racing'. I go to Croft every year (have done since 97), and everybody seems to know a thing or 2 about touring cars, you can tell the people who are there just for the hell of it (mostly women dragged by their boyfriends/husbands etc.), or people dragged along by their mates.

Door rubbing is nothing new in motorsport (although it is to single seater fans), rubbin's racin' as they say. The BTCC provides great racing, overtaking. Not all drivers are angels but people

I've been a big fan of the BTCC since the late 90s... I'm guessing you're one of these people who says "the racing was far better in the 90s" Having seen footage from the early 90s, I'd honestly say they're much cleaner today.

Yesterday through the 3 BTCC races at Brands Hatch I saw 2 questionable moves, one by Matt Neal (although I may be biased, as I hate him) punting Chilton out of the way, and the other being Turner put into the gravel in race 3 which was more just a case of lots of cars going for 1 corner on the first lap.

Forgive me for nit picking a bit, but I am a very passionate fan of the BTCC and will defend it to the hills, but I do respect that some people don't like it, and for some reason respect the people who think F1 is everything

Quote from duke_toaster :The BTCC, as usual had a few driving standards issues. I'm thinking specifically regarding Mr Plato.

Plato had nowhere else to go, he went to do a legitimate overtaking attempt on the inside when Onslow-Cole moved over causing Shedden to move over, just because Plato was involved doesn't mean he's done anything wrong, it was just a racing accident.

Quote from ajp71 : A lot of the half wits that go to BTCC events would also get bored by the concept of proper racing.

You sir, are what I like to call an utter tosser.

I am a big fan of the BTCC, and I am no half-wit and take offence to what you have posted. It's not the first time, EVERY time there's a BTCC thread you post something like that.

I accept that you don't like it, much like I hate F1, yet still respect the people who enjoy it.

Think about what you post in future.

Quote from danowat :Ohhhh, the irony LMAO

Well he was driving for Team Dynamics (read: VXR) at Thruxton last year wasn't he? Letting through the VXR drivers then blocking Plato... to be honest Plato is a hero for even driving that weekend due to his burns.

He's always been a complete tosser ever since he started winning races, always making it look like he was the innocent, when 99% of the time he was to blame. I'm not saying Plato is an angel, he isn't...

To be honest the rivalry between Plato and Neal is what makes it so good, constantly having a go at each other on and off track like many in the past (Soper/Clelend, Reid/Rydell, Muller/everyone else etc) with no quater given any way. You might say it's dangerous, but it's a hell of alot safer than it was 10 years ago!

Anyway.. I'll leave this thread for now when defending BTCC i get quite into it as the BTCC is where my passion lies

I can see this turning into a flame-fest as ALL BTCC threads do on this forum... I've always liked the people who say "Driving standards in the 90s were much better than today" which is bullshit... I've watched all the season reviews from 1990-2007... and in all honesty... they're much better today than they were back then, they really were playing bumper cars back then!!!

Anyway... I've followed the BTCC since 1997, which was Jason Plato's first year, I've been a Plato fan ever since then. So JP for the title I think.

oh... and Matt Neal should be shot... The cheating scum he is

Quote from Ahriman4891 :I'm just curious about your terminology... would you say "overall it's a better sim than LFS" or rather "overall it's a better racing game than LFS"? Mind you I don't play online much, but it's not hard to be a better, more immediately fun racing game than LFS--e.g. Generally destroys LFS in this aspect, though it's not nearly as fulfilling when I'm in "sim" mood.

I really ought to try GTR2 again and maybe rFactor as well, now that I have a G25. Unfortunately I'm short on time with all the schoolwork

I would say it's a better sim than LFS.

Get mods like the Porsche Carerra Cup, Lupo's, BMW E21, Megane Trophy... along with more of them, they feel much more convincing than LFS does. Plus real cars and tracks... something that LFS NEEDS.*

*I couldn't care less if I get flamed here, fanboyism IS on this forum no matter how much you all deny it is, I appreciate both sims as they are with no priorities between either, but if I had to choose one, then I'd choose rFactor over LFS.

Best way to play rFactor is within a community like I do, find a community, sign up, they have organised race nights on the best mods going out there, everybody has the same version, joins the private server and has a blast.

Idiot and lag free racing, unlike LFS where 1 tiny hit can send your car into space.

I would recommend you rfactor yes.

Main reason being... overall it's a better sim than LFS.

I'm having much more fun playing games like rFactor and RACE07 than I ever have playing LFS. Simple answer to a simple question.
