Flooding in the area (and I live on top of a hill!!), 4 hour long thunderstorm, heavy rain, although it's stopped for now, looks like it's gonna start again soon. Muggy as hell too! I hate it when it's like this... HUUUUUUUUGE thunderstorm please.
For me LFS was great, then within the space of a day or 2 almost 2 years ago now I lost all interest in it, I went on cruise servers, had a lot of fun on them I must admit, but it was more for wasting spare time than anything.
Every now and then I fire it up just to see what's about, join a server, and I tend to do 1 race before getting bored and leaving. It just doesn't feel the same, the community spirit has gone from LFS, on most servers it feels like racing with either little kids or drones who are always first to blame you when they crash into you, not the full-of-laughs close and clean racing that it used to be.
Exactly my view, but I'd like to expand on that a little. LFS hasn't moved on much at all with time, hardware in particular has lept forwards over the last 5 years and LFS has been left behind with very little support for newer technologies and barely bothering any existing hardware. There is a lot of potential in LFS with current hardware (and I'm not talking about the newest hardware that 90% can't afford, I'm talking about borderline old in 'technology years' that's quite inexpensive today).
This too is a very valid point. There's nothing drastically wrong with the cars in LFS (although a Touring Car would be nice ), but the tracks are old, boring and very lifeless.
2007 - Present: 2003 Ford Focus LX 1.6l - Bought at 32,000 miles, up to 47,000 now. Great car to drive, especially on twisty roads, a little bit of a handful when it gets damp due to good tyres on the front and crap tyres on the back (must get that sorted at some point!). Comfy on motorways and dead easy to drive.
I've sent a PM to the OP asking this, but incase he doesn't reply, does anybody know the best way to attach one of these to the wheel?
I've just ordered one from Amazon (logic3 instead of madcatz though) and I'm wondering if it's easy to attach it securely, my initial idea is some velcro, but something more sturdy would be better.
Not really, the modelling in LFS is quite poor compared to most other racing games (not just sims) out there. Compare the models to rfactor mods like PCC07, Corvette C6 or CTDP F106 and such and you'll see LFS models are only at the tip of the iceberg compared to most things being released by people made in their own spare time for no profit at all! Even the recently released Touring Car Legends mod on rF has better models than LFS, and that's saying something!
Put it this way, put an LFS model into rfactor as a mod and without touchups the community will reject it as there is things out there that drive better and are better looking already available.
(and yes, I am aware running in DX8 + complex physics doesn't help)
*flameproof suit for saying what is essentially the truth, on*
It's a great sim once you get GTR Evo and STCC added to it aswell. I organised a league with the community I'm an admin of and we're going into the last round this week, every race has had full grids and it's been fantastic fun with a little controversy too (had to ban 1 person for dangerous driving), but the championship is also going to the last round!
It is best played online and with an organised community/events.
Sounds like an OS start-up file is corrupted causing the long load time.
I'd do what Jack suggests and see what happens. If it still does it then there's some hardware gone wrong somewhere, maybe hard drive if you knocked it over, although as you say it would be running slow all the time if that's the case.
