Anyone have a BF1 setup for Blackwood?

+1 for me. This would be interesting since you'd start seeing players waiting to see what times others are posting before they got out. Giving people time to have there Qualifying setup.

I like the idea of returning to the pits, I hate the magic teleport.

Maybe a cool down limiter that puts your car at 75-80% throttle once you cross the finish line in to your cool down lap. It wouldn't slam on your breaks just slow you down until it hits the throttle setting for cool down.

Lap 1. Out of the pits warm up
Lap 2. Hot Lap
Lap 3. Cool down limiter kicks on slowing you to 75-80% throttle.

Server Admin adjust how many hot laps each racer can have. 3 or so, giving 9 laps total.

This all should be a option for servers to use or not to use.

I'd like to see different rule options. So you maybe racing FOX but the server is running F1 rule set. So there are preset rules to follow. In the Esc menu screen you can get the "Rules" button that gives the run down of them.

Just find it annoying and frustrating trying to race realistically only to have some one ignore pit excite turn out and you have to practically dive off the track not to hit them.

Would also like to see some sort of penalty for blocking. In F1 you get one blocking move. I was racing in Blackwood, was clearly faster then the guy in front of me by 20-30 mph. Yet every time I tried to make a clean pass the driver would turn sharply in front of me, causing me to slam on the breaks. Doing it once Ok, thats racing. But doing it 3 or 4 times in a row when the person behind you is clearly faster, not even fighting for the lead. (Was in about 6th at the time) that is just being malicious.

One thing I'd really like to see and I could be a minority on this one. A Rule that after the lead cars finish the race they have to do a cool down lap then pit before they are declared the winner. I lost track of how many times I might be a lap down or a few places behind the lead two cars, only to have it when there race is finished they slam on the brakes and stop in the middle of the track, or are doing dough nuts. When not everyone has finished the race yet. I've crashed and spun off because of this. A few times lost my position because of this. I lost 3rd once because 1st and 2nd were stopped on the track because there race was over, when I was still trying to hold third. :/

Was thinking it would be nice to have map options. Right now when I am racing I'd like to be able to turn off all the on screen displays. But in doing that it turns off the text for flags and penalty's.

I'd like a map option for two things.

1. To have a small black and white map (like a piece of paper) on the steering wheel that gives the basic outline of the track.

2. Would like on the on screen map to have sector lines and T's for turns. So I can see T1, T2, T3, etc on the map. The Reverse of the track the T numbers would change.

Just a couple days.

I would like to see this too. I've been on several online races, taking a break watching in spectator only to see some guy come out of the pits and cross the yellow line, go through the cones so they can get on track "faster". There should be a penalty for this. Right now people are doing it because there is nothing to stop them, and people don't notice it.

Is there any way to up the amount of AI drivers on the track? Sometimes I get board and like to watch AI Formula 1 races. Would like to have a full grid instead of 12. Frown

I agree, you need to make the tools for realism top thing to do. Then added other elements will be less of a headache later.

I dunno everyone I know that builds choppers also does cars,
hell most of them live on lakes. lol.

You misunderstand, I had never said I wanted this now. No, I was bringing up a discussion about future, not S3. Don't undermind me by thinking I would ever say hire more Developers. I've been on countless beta teams where the core programer/developer was one person. I know how long things take how you want to get it right before the public sees it.

This was a discussion on being multiple elements together over time. Being the world of racing together as one online community under the banner of Life for Speed.

Seems people here have a fear if you add something you lose something. My whole point is in the future once the car element is what the developer wanted, why not add other types of things. I never said drop everything and start making bikes and boats.

I'm a firm believer for the past 15 years when it comes to sims make the physics and the world modeling correct, and all other elements fall in to place.

I've said it before I love LFS (Even being a Mac user) want it to be the best racing sim it can possibly be.

I've from the East we don't have In-and-Out haven't been to one in years. I would find it making more sense if LFS was Live for Cars. But it's just Live for Speed and speed can mean anything. Only users seem to limit it to 4 wheels.

Could say the same for the cars, there is no track temps, no air temps, no air morsture or any kind of weather. No slick spots on track, no dirt or gravel tossed on the track after someone has a off. No oil on the track after a crash. But thats not the point.

The post isn't about soley boat racing. It's about all types of racing. Bringing as many types of racing in to one online community with one software front end client.

Why is it so hard not to flame? Anyway, this is not about one persons personal likes or dislikes. I don't really watch power boat racing, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't have something like the realism in LFS. Just like I personally find Drifting the lamest form of "racing" there is in the world. There are people that enjoy doing it, and I welcome that because it brings other aspects in to the fold. Do I like it personally? No not at all, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be there.

I was going to mention planes, as a person that has hosted several air races with another sim. In all honesty I felt even saying boats would be to far out of the box for people here to understand, but that it was worth a shot for discussion purposes. Boat racing wouldn't be much different then autocross now. You'd have a flat area of water, with markers laying the track. The tire smoke effect would be changed slightly for a spray effect, the surface of the water wouldn't have 3D waves. The surface could be set as a really bumpy road as in LFS.

I'd like to see two wheeled action before I ever saw boats, it would be fun having a bike team to race for. Would like to have it as real as possible like cars in LFS. I also understand though the control system. For me, I physically can't use a steering wheel for LSF so I have to use a game control. So with a bike I'd still be using a game controler.

I see more types of racers a better thing. You will get cross over racers to try other things. Heck I might try Drifting (Seriosuly doubt it lol)

I'm not posting this to start some off the topic discussion. Or to have people flame about threads that had been posted years ago. Some topics need to resurface from time to time so they aren't lost forever.

Live for Speed is wonderful, and I love it. In it's title it says Live for Speed, doesn't say Live for four wheel automobile racing Speed. Why not make it all racing. Making LFS the Meca for online racing fans.

What I am picturing. Imagine the realism we already have in LSF, but you are racing your motorcyle on the tracks we have now. New challenges for racers, skinners, and setups. New types of racers will be coming to LFS.

I'm a Formula One fan, so prefer that type of racing above all else, but in the interest of community and all racers everywhere. Adding more types of race cars such as a CART/INDY type, NASCAR type, Rally type, even Truck Racing. MotoCross, SuperCross, MotoGP, World Super Bike.

Now let's take this further, we now have the best online community for Cars, Bikes and Trucks, why not power boat racing? There are many types of boat racing. Currently some of the LFS tracks are near water. Even more challenges come in to effect now.

New types of races, that aren't lap based, but more like rally, where you do one very long track, that is broken in to sections.

Dawesdust_12 I tried what you suggested and it worked. Took me a bit to figure out what path it would read to the program. Can't seem to get the window size bigger, but that might be a Quartz issue since it needs my original Intel Mac OSX disc, and can't remember where I put it. :/

Vortex3K thanks for the suggestion but VPC doesn't support 3D game enivorments. I've used it several times in the past, and if I remember correctly MS never made a update to support Intel Mac's. :/ I've tried Parallels but never even got it to read my WindowsXP drive. :/

Hmm.. Just installed GIMPShop and it doesn't really look any different then the other GIMP I downloaded earlier. Only difference I see is it opens everything in one big window. Instead of your palettes and work area opening in separate windows with your desktop behind it.

Guess I'll just start back in Mac OSX work in Photoshop then come back, will be annoying.

What Format are the cars in for LFS? Maybe there is some Mac app I can open them with. But then the UI mapping would probably be different. :/

Trying GIMP, took a while to get it installed. Not liking it all that much so far. Kind of annoying, since I already know how to use photoshop. Oh well. Still wish someone could port just the viewer to Mac.

I know this is a long shot.. But here goes, I use a MacPro restarting in to WinXP to run LFS. I want to do my own paint scheme for a F1 car, or any car in LFS. All my graphic programs are Mac so I have to restart in to WinXP to use the small 3D car viewer App. I wish someone could port just the car viewer app, to Mac so I didn't have to switch back and forth to see one little change.

Or does anyone know of any program on the Mac I could use to open LFS cars to help in painting them?

I'm a Mac guy, only way I play LFS is to restart my MacPro in WinXP. So IGA hasn't really hit Mac games yet.

I play BF2142 also, now they started using IGA and it has really taken away from the game a lot. Since before you would see billboards of propoganda for what ever side you were playing "Join the cause fight!" kind of thing.

Now when you play every flat billboard is filled with Intel Core Duo 2
adds. Which really takes away from a feature conflict game when you look at it, thinking "Wow 135 years from now Intel is still pushing Core Duo, or are even around in a post apoctolypic world!?"

For LFS if it is done right, where track billboards have stuff. Not in our cockpits. Or if you had a designer tool for your decals for companies you want on your car. So lets we open up the 3D car viewer app, in it we have the company logos to choose from on one side. We can drag the logo the logo on to the spot of the car we awant it on, the it automatically sticks to the car and we adjust the scale. These logs could automatically update if the company changes there look.

The down side is you would have to connect online to get the info. One major draw back in BF2142 is even the offline game you have to connect online. I've had my high speed internet go out a few times and couldn't even start the game because it checks online first, no other option around it. They did make a slight fix, that if it doesn't find anything it will go to offline mode. But any unlocks you have are unusable.

I'm not for in-game adds. But if they have to happen they should ONLY be for related products to that game. Ads that would actually be there. Not racing around a track with "Play super ultra FPS shooter now!" or ever billboard is some game websites logo and URL.
Graphical and other Effects

I'm all about realism when it comes to simulation games.

Graphically wise, for LFS I'd really like to see track reflect, even pavement has a shine to when the sun hits it.

Would also like to see a option for a time, so you can set server times. One where it is currently the sun position never changes on the track, one where you could set the rate in which the sun rises and sets. One where you have real time, where the sun rising and setting would take actual 24 hours to do. This would require car headlights.

I to would like a weather effect, but would like different types of weather effects. So lets say it is going to rain. You can even have it from start to finish of a race it is a constant weather, be it sunshine and clear skies, or down pour of rain. Have to ability that the weather could change during a race, this would be great for longer races. Since you may start a race where it is nice and sunny but by the time it finishes it might have start raining. Or have a race that was just a light rain shower that turns in to a heavy shower. So give servers the option of being able to have some weather choice other then on and off. This would also make it possible to have to use both dry and wet tires during one race.

Air and track temperatures to be modeled in to LFS. Types of tires, wet weather, dry, slick, groved slick, but only on the type of car that would use those tires.

Parts breaking away from cars when they wreck, I've hit my F1 car hard in a crash which in real life I'd see my aero package skidding down the track without me. Or that should have seen my tire bouncing down the tarmac.

The ability to have failures to your cars. Maybe hitting the bumpers in turns to hard, you have a chance that your suspension is going to give way and brake, shift gears wildly you may break your transmission. Blown tires, that literally give way, not just go flat.

My idea isn't for all setups it only for setups you give to another racer. So Racer 1 gives Racer 2 a setup, Racer 2 types in the name for it they choose, but by default LFS puts in the track name your on as the suffix.

So days later when Racer 2 comes to practice on or offline he quickly can see that the setup he got what track it was meant for.

This isn't about your setup, or people changing it. Since once you give a setup more then likely the person you gave it to will change it slightly for themselves anyway. Your favorite setup, you probably wouldn't give out freely anyone.

I'd also like a check box to lock a setup, so you don't mistakenly change one. If a setup is locked you and you try to change it, you'd get a window telling you, you have to save a new setup.

I'd like to see when you get a setup from another racer that once you save it in the setup name field it also has a listing what track you were at when you got it. I have a few setups right now that I can't remember what track the car setup is meant to be used at.

Have a suffix after the name you give the setup would be handy, similar to the replay naming that you can have a idea what track it was taken at.
