Quote from Gai-Luron :Hello,

For now i do a break. Sorry for this , but i need it.

Please don't apologise. Your contribution to the community is, I'm sure, appreciated by many more people than those who have already posted messages of thanks.

Quote from Gai-Luron :For your problem, this occur if you use LFSStat in Live mode, but not on replay. This soft was made to work on replay.

Just to clarify this point. Are you saying that you will not be fixing the problem in 'live' mode or that you will look into fixing it after a break?

Quote from nmd.com.au :Not sure if anyone else has encountered this, but we have to end a race for it to produce the html and csv files, rather then just restart. Any ideas?

This is happening to us too.

Gai-Luron - are you aware of this issue? It really is a shame that you've put in all this hard work only for the stats to fail to be produced.

Quote from Jakg :Yes, they can, i meant that a server can be crashed without the crasher needing to even have an S2 License - it's so early in the connection that tbh i don't think a password could stop it but i'd like to be proved wrong.

Our server has been up since the password was applied (cue script kiddie attack).

Thanks for the info. I've now found the details. Password going on until hotfix released.
Server crashing - malicious or not?

I can't keep our server up for long before it crashes. It's been stable up until Saturday evening and nothing has changed server-side to account for the crashes. This post seems to suggest that a server crasher is in the wild and being used to bring down servers.

Anyone with more info?

Damn. That blew my guess that the next post would be along the lines of 'can't be bothered to tell you'

Quote from danworth :can you add a pause in milliseconds in a script?

As Jakg has rightly said, not at the moment.

But it has been requested and is on 'the list' so no need to ask for it again.

Quote from Doorman :Despite the prophets of doom we spend a great evening of racing fcv. Attendances didn't fall off and no-one complained....I lie; one guy joined, said 'Forced cockpit?', '???', 'Goodbye then' and left. He came back 2 seconds later and said 'A thought, you should advertise it so as not to waste people's time' He'd gone by the time I typed 'It's in the server list marked F'

Just so that I understand this ...

You have forced pistops?
You have wind turned on?
You have forced cockpit view?
You have 5 minute breaks between races?

You're doomed mate. DOOMED.
Ban autosaves replay

When a racer is banned, a replay is autosaved (with a file name beginning ban_racername_) on both the racer's and the admin's PC.

This will ensure that both parties have the evidence necessary for any followup discussions concerning the reasons for the ban.

Quote from dawesdust_12 :Is it that hard to remember all 8 people (including yourself) in a ventrilo server...

Ah but you're forgetting that the filthy rich amongst us are prepared to shell out the yearly 25 quid to get the superior team comms that Ventrilo provides.

Quote from Matt0snap :

is it just me, or is everyone saying "good work Scawen". but doesn't Victor and Eric still work on the game too? Shoudln't we be saying "good work everyone" or " good work devs"?

Oh we will. Particularly when we see the spinky new track that Eric has for us

Quote from felplacerad :Have you subscribed to _this_ thread?

W42 is out

Your link is missing but I know what you mean.

That doesn't work. Sometimes new threads are created for new patches, plus, any replies would also generate emails. That's why I'm asking for a single locked thread (no replies) where only new patch announcements are made.

Scawen

Could I ask you to consider creating a locked thread in this section where you announce the release of patches - test or otherwise?

This would allow hosters who always run the latest patch to be able to subscribe to that thread and so be automatically notified when a patch has been released. After all, it makes little sense releasing a patch if, initially, there are no servers running it.

You might also consider releasing the server file slightly earlier to allow the server admins to patch-up in preparation for the client release, particularly the major ones - e.g. 'X'.

I do try to check the release forum regularly but it would make the whole process of patching simpler if this suggestion was implemented.

Firstly, many thanks for taking this project on. It is very much appreciated.

Now a couple of requests

1. Could the filenames be generated with leading zeros where necessary?

2. Could the results folder location be configurable?

The combo might be useful in attracting people to your server. How you run it it will decide if they become regulars.

When the 'delay' function is added to the scripting then, amongst other things, hosters will be able to provide a next race countdown message.

Could we have a locked thread that is only used to announce new test patches?

This would allow people like us (who *always* run the latest patch on their servers) to subscribe to the thread without getting email bombed with reply posts.

Sorry to post a suggestion but it seems the right time and place.

Don't you love it when people join an empty server and start to 'talk' to the host?

Quote from SamH :Talk about timing! LFS hasn't, as far as we've seen, any issues with our dual-core. However, last night for no reason we could figure and for the first time ever, our BF2 server *suddenly* started showing lag problems. We shifted its process usage on to one core and the problem was instantly resolved.

I don't know if this will solve it, but try doing the same with your LFS server

PS: If you figure out a way to set an individual core or processor as the one an application process uses *by default*, each time it's launched, I'd love to hear about it.

Thanks for all the info, guys.

I used imagecfg.exe (from the Windows resource kit for W2K3) to set lfs.exe running on a single cpu and whaddya know, no mass disconnects. I realise that one night's testing is hardly conclusive so I'll give it to the end of the week then revert back to no affinity and see if the problem returns.

TAA - Will give ForceCore a look. Thanks for the headsup.

Could this be a clue?

http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=427339#post427339

Does LFS have known issues with dual processor systems? We run a dual Opteron 265 based system so, if it does, this could be a likely cause.

We at Dead Men Racing are having nightmare connectivity problems and would like to call upon the power of fellow hosters to help us sort out the problems.

We do not suspect our hardware or network to be at fault. We run an absolute beast of a server hosted in Hi-Velocity's London data centre.

Here's an example from last night's racing ...

The server had 16 racers on. Lag was obvious with the usual problems of warping cars and 'lag tags' above some cars. The behaviour of the Latency/Lag bars (or as we call it - the ping wiggler) was not quite as documented. We were connected by Ventrilo so we were able to keep each other informed of what we were seeing. The most common anomaly was when three or four racers would report (at the same time) that their bar was rising and that they were probably about to drop. What then happened was one of those would drop and the rest would quickly restore to normal. The link above seems to say that this shouldn't happen. Sometimes all the people with rising bars would drop - even though they're on different ISPs.

We've been running Pingplotter traces which show no real issues so we're stumped.

Is there any thing we could try to help solve these issues?

I should also add that we also run a CounterStrike server and the players on that server are seeing no lag at all.

TIA

Oh dear. If you're saying that auto is all that's needed then why make it configurable? If it's configurable then it should be saveable.
