Its a shame really...
You are not doing anything wrong though
The reason why the scirocco will be in LFS is mostly because of vic really wanted this car in LFS and thus he did anything to make this happen. A while back he asked me to help with modelling but apparently Eric made it all alone already
So, Eric absolutely isnt slow like some people are moaning...
Just because he doesnt post as much as Sc and vic doesnt mean he is dead :P Life is more than just web forums :P
I like LFS most because its "the racing simulator" - the original... legendary :P
Andthing else is just a bad Ctrl-C Ctrl-V...
And of course the devs' approach is probably the most ingenious one in the games industry ever since. Its not like other developers dont want to do their thing the same way... its just not possible...
no chance to get a new computer for like 500$?
I have a notebook here, and I can clock it down to 400MHz. Its a Centrino though, but the fps rate is then kinda low'ish, about 10
It also depens on the graphics card, so if you have a very old CPU, your GPU might be old aswell. Just try the demo i'd say, thats why its there.
[edit]
are you really sure its 512MHz CPU? Could be FSB or the L2 cache aswell...
I have never heared anything about a CPU with 512MHz oO
anyways... try the demo! http://www.lfs.net/?page=downloads
Hm those are REALLY cool
Have you thought about rendering them with 'normal' lighting from the same positions, and sending the whole pack to the devs?
I mean, it would be really cool to see the brighter and colored cars fading in when you move the mouse over it
Maybe something for after S2 though, because the devs want to finish everything at first I guess.
Scawen is very right - there are indeed a lot people who are willing to wait and who know things will be good in the end. I mean, it actually doesnt matter all that much WHEN we get some new feature, because in the end, everything will the there anyways. So its baisically more like "A then B" or " first B and then A" kinda thing.
But on the other hand, you always have to take an eye on the dynamic process of the community.
At the moment this works very well for cheating - Sc is quickly fixing the annoying bugs and banning the cheats, so people can continue racing with fun. But from the point of some racers, the devs probably dont care enough about things that they (=the other racers) consider more important at the moment. For example, the esports community doesnt care about the new languages, they would like to see the collision bugs fixed etc.
Also, the times have changed and with iRacing LFS is probably going to get the first decent competitor (at least a lot other people say so; I have not tested iRacing yet).
Thus, the LFS way of development will work well for some time, but we really dont know if it will still work in 2 or 3 years.
The devs are not stupid though, so the community should trust them a bit more... they do know what they're doing, otherwise LFS would be rubbish :P
I made the icon, so its ok
But maybe you want to modify it a bit, thats ok aswell.
(just let me know if a psd can help you, so I will send it to you)
[EDIT]
Someone else asked, so I attached it here.
The icon is free to use for any LFS related program. Remember that if its commercial, you need to contact the devs aswell.
The psd layers are mostly vector format, so it might be relatively easy to resize it, except for the actual "LFS" font. I dont have the correct font, but maybe I can reproduce this if you need a much higher res. This one is 64ps for now, which might be enough I hope.
[EDIT2]
Well, when you try to resize it to a very high res, it looks rather crappy oO
Wow Gimpster I absolutely agree.. I talked about this with someone close to the community a little while ago.. I was trying to explain why I didn't play LFS as much as I did.. but I couldn't really find the right words. I think I'll just copy/paste your post because I agree with every single word.
And another one here...
Its just plain true that the new tracks and new cars provide a different feel of racing, but thats not bad either, and LFS needs this feeling also in S2, not just in S3. The only problem is, that the reason why people play LFS has changed.
The _real_ oldschoolers played LFS because its fun. Now, its more like a challenge. LFS is about winning, it has grown up and the fun has evelved to 'competition'. Most of the 'new' LFS players equal 'fun' and competition. But some people dont. Of course all racing is competition, but there are different facettes of 'competition'.
I would not call it 'evolve'. Its rather a sideways movement, with the result that different people like LFS in a different way.
The LFS racers of 2003 simply like to drive side by side through a corner, and pass each other like 10 times in a single turn
I remember amazing races with Cedje Dervo, Devil 007 and all the others most of you guys dont even know. This might sound a bit weird but driving LFS used to be more like dancing than wrestling.
Blackwood is not really as much fun as in 2003 (in the slow cars that is), but we still have tracks like fern bay club or rallyx, the slow aston tracks and south city.
For example, I drove almost no laps in Westhill, because Im not interested in only pushing a car to the limit by driving against the track and the time. I can drive pretty fast (well at least I used to... just got no time AT ALL right now because of uni), but this has never been the _real_ challenge in LFS. Its more about driving against other racers, and its an emotional kind of thing which you cant understand if you havent played LFS from the beginning. Thats probably the reason why so many people are moaning about the LFS developers lately.
Its just not true that they are not working or that they are doing unneccessary things. The people who moan simply dont know what LFS is all about. Almost everyone still thinks LFS is a game - its not a game, its a way of thinking
Honestly I dont like the way the wall touching is handled. Sometimes you just touch a wall so slightly that even even a fly between your car and the wall would survive it, but still its invalid
Maybe it would be a better idea to calculate the impulse and allow small values there, which wont obviously be cheating or exploiting. Prolly something for after S2 though...
Its really funny - people are moaning that there are no functions such as replay controls or an improved S1 license, and once those are there, they're moaning because there are no new cars and stuff...
I bet if there were some new cars, everyone would be complaining about the missing replay controls and empty S1 servers...
