Good luck!
Alfa's feel more rewarding to keen drivers. The head might say 'why', but the heart says 'YES'

There should be a setting in your BIOS to disable the onboard sound system. That would ensure no clashes with your new sound card

I also get crackling since patch V... but I've also started using new headphones so could be that (I'd be dissapointed given the price of them).
It's only in the right ear, and appears linked to engine revs - not there when idling. I can't hear the cracking when using basey speakers. No screen stutter noticed

Given the above, it's quite likely the fault of hardware. I'd better investigate more!

I was planning on building one like this with metal frame (lots of adjustability) but my new house doesn't have the room for it

Check out the work on show in this thread at RSC forum. I'm sure there's something there to inspire you

Go for IL-2 if WWII is your thing.
For modern jets, there's massive rivalry between Falcon 4.0 Allied Force and LO:MAC (even more than rfactor vs LFS !)

Quote from matt_green84 :I have a request for a mod if anyone has the time and energy.

Basically all I want is a much bigger shift light, like the red one on the dash, or virtual clocks.

Never really noticed it being an issue before, but on WEI at the limit, i could do with something noticable in the corner of my eye, instead of having to look for it for the perfect shift point.

Shouldn't have thought it would be tooooo hard to do, but more advanced than I, says I!

Thanks.

Back to the original question.
I use an external gear indicator with a shift light. http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=13973
Yes, the shift light is very much more visible

4) A cutoff for ping time would help with this, say anything above 200ms is ignored.

Just to confirm that the PSU must provide more current than your wheel needs, your wheel only draws what it needs so even a 2A supply is OK.

I looked at Maplins but only found max 0.5A

RS have this one with 24V/1A http://rswww.com/cgi-bin/bv/rs ... =I18NAll&Ntt=400-7156 if you are able to order off them?

edit: This ones cheaper from CPC http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/end ... artDetail.jsp?SKU=PW01531

Quote from thisnameistaken :I've found Theakston's Old Peculier in the USA before too - in six pack bottles, I think they were 12oz. O.P. doesn't travel all that well but having not had a pint of it for a couple of years I didn't really notice.

It's true of a lot or beers 'they don't travel that well'. O.P. tastes better the nearer you are to Masham, and Boddingtons tastes better in Manchester!

Just wanted to add that I don't have many must-watch TV programs, I get bored with TV very quickly. I prefer my entertainment interactive!
I hope eventually outsiders will realise it's just as valid a form of entertainment as TV

Some people say 'You play games!?' thinking gaming is for 12 year olds only. But the stats for LFS show the average age is 26 or something. Nothing I say would change their opinion so I forget about it.

Others are extremely interested that I enjoy a very realistic motor-racing simulator with people across Europe and beyond. They can't comprehend I'm racing bumper to bumper next to someone from Portugal/Finland etc.

I use one of them.
I have a jostick next to me with a roller I use for cycling through the views, but I can also press down to jump to cockpit view.

I'd be happy if 'jump to default view' remained, even if it changed to another button combination.

First the layout files must be loaded on the server.

Some helpful admin commands:-
/axlist X : Get list of layouts for track X - e.g. AU1
/autox X : Load autocross layout named X for current track

And of course Shift+U to go into edit mode (press space if controls are not visible)

I read about a simple 7-segment display at RSC by Vladimir Kadlec, and had a go myself. He wrote a little program to send data from LFS through the parallel port.
Read the instructions at RSC forum. You need a 7 segment display, a parallel cable, a few resistors and a bit of soldering.

I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned here so have taken the opportunity to show mine off.
I sometimes found I was messing up in corners when changing to the incorrect gear, at mid corner the in-game gear display is hidden by the arms crossing (I know you can disable the arms being displayed). This external display helps with this and also looks good.
It's also possible to have a shift light on the decimal point, but I've fitted a dedicated shift light for more visibility.

In hindsight, the display I chose was not bright enough (high-efficiency red, HE Red), but it appears better contrast than the picture suggests - it was necessary to have all the lights on for taking the picture.

Do you have more than one controller? Check in options>controllers which device is receiving the FF instructions, in case something/windows has swapped them round.
