Quote from E.Reiljans :wtf is .mkv codec lol

You don't see it much, but it is great for ripping DVDs as you can easily encode a layer of subtitles and other information into it, which can be turned on or off at a whim.

The patents wars piss me off. What they are saying is after we create a product no one else can make a product as good. If the guys who invented the wheel patented it, everyone else would have to make square wheels. It is bollocks that does nothing but prevent advancement in technology as every new tech is patented so cannot be developed further.

I currently rock a few watches, each having it's own application.

General use is my trusty Smith & Wesson SWAT time piece (it did come with rubber straps but I replaced them with a black NATO strap).

For running, jumping, climbing trees, a CASIO W752, with a fabric Velcro strap. I just wanted a stop watch so got the first one I came across. The lens has been slightly melted when I rested it against a hot exhaust manifold (school boy error).

A stainless steel dress watch, picked up from a local jewelers, so I don't actually know the brand, but I've only worn it twice in the last 10 years.

A MWC G10 which I never actually use, but has sentimental value

For being a classy bastard, a gold pocket watch. I have two of these, one has been passed down through the family, worth a fair few pounds, I don't really use it. The other is only worth a a hundred or so, which I got when I turned 21.

Sounds like right wing bullshit to me. "Them there communists are out to get ye!" "SHOW YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE!"

It is also funny that the right are accusing Obama of corrupting American politics by only focusing on his own interests not that of the people, you know, like the Reps have never done that. Oh wait, hang on...

Quote from Mysho :any proof of your statement? this sounds like a total bullshit imo.

Brake fluid is hygroscopic, that means is absorbs water. Through general use the water boils away, you get gas in the lines, gas compresses, this means that your get a spongy pedal. There is nothing you can do to prevent brake fluid from absorbing water. Some of the newer fluids are more resistant to absorption of water, but it is an inevitability. So regularly fluid changes are the only preventative measure you can take.

Quote from stan.distortion :Good to know some countries test it, brake lines rusted on the inside are scary. They dont test for it here, maybe do in the UK though.

If only. All they check for here is signs of corrosion on the outside of the brake pipes.

Quote from Klutch :lolwut?

brake fluid lasts for years if you don't cook it.

Not really. At most you might get 5 years out of some brake fluid. The more humid the atmosphere, the sooner you have to change it.

Quote from jibber :Swag is used to describe somebody who is cool, hip, badass, blabla... 2pac had swag, biggie had swag... etc.

Nowadays it's plastic dolls rapping about prada and gucci, white skinned teenagers calling themselves n*ggas, rapping to what sounds like they fell over some toy-keyboard in a toys'r'us store, accidently recorded the noise they made in the process and then called it music. Those people use the word swag.

Maybe it used to be cool, but nowadays people using the word swag are mainly complete douchebags... i agree completely with S14drift regarding this one.

Erm, did I fall and bump my head?

swag noun 1 slang stolen goods. 2 Austral a traveller's pack or rolled bundle of possessions. 3 a a garland of fruit, flowers or foliage that is hung between two points; b a representation of this, eg in plasterwork, as a design on wallpaper or fabric; c fabric that is hung to give this effect, eg at a window. verb (swagged, swagging) 1 intrans to sway or sag. 2 to drape (eg curtain fabric) in swags. 3 Austral (often swag it) to travel around on foot with one's possessions in a bundle.

Quote from S14 DRIFT :

At 80 I get about 53, at 100 though my turbo is hovering closer to 20psi and I'm doing about 3000rpm, it does about 34mph per 1000 rpm.
Just because you have a druggie dillah car.

For those reasons, I regret ditching my van, she hardly touched the fuel.

Well I need a vehicle that is in-keeping with my career. By the by, need me to fix you up with anything?

Quote from S14 DRIFT :I'd love to see that. My Golf at 100Mph does about 25mpg as I have the onscreen readout which is pretty accurate I doubt your car does double. Now OK fair enough to you, if your trip computer says that 100mph you get 45mpg who am I to doubt that.

LOL! My truck gets better than that. Your golf must be shit. I cruse at 100mph at 2,500RPM, no worries and get around 26-27mpg. Get 30mpg if I obey the speed limit. Through town I really suffer though. Range Rovers weren't made for stop start traffic.

Mad, so much for BMWs being the perfect drivers car. If the imbalance is due to the car being designed for left hook and not amended for driving on the correct side of the car then BMW are spastics. But if it is the case, so be it. Sounds very wrong to me though and I really doubt it is true. More likely a convenient excuse for a larger problem.

Quote from danthebangerboy :Indeed, both rear springs were broken, so after putting the new ones in, it still sits about 20mm lower on the drivers side rear compared to the passengers side rear, although from googling this is allegedly normal, and can be combated by fitting a thicker spring top mount designed for the E36 on the lower side.

Yeah, that isn't normal. Did you try changing your dampers too as this can cause the vehicle to drop, although for a 20mm difference, you'd notice a shocking ride. Really, I'd be looking for a twisted chassis. 20mm is a massive difference.

Quote from Jakg :And no, I did not... Haynes recommended I did, so I looked on eBay - couldn't find any.

Looked on Rimmers, I'd need 4x £10.67 + 4x £11.17 + 1x £1.16 - I'm not going to spend £88 on 9 O-rings!

How did you come up with £88? I get what you're saying though, for little shreds of rubber they aren't cheap and the cost always makes me tempted to turn a blind eye.

[edit: just realised you need 4 at 10 each. Are you sure that price is right? That is more than a headgasket kit.]

Quote from Jakg :On a related note, cleaned out my inlet manifold the other day...

Although it doesn't look that bad, the inside was disgusting with all the soot / crap / shit the EGR has been pumping in there.

It'd also covered the MAP sensor in a layer of well... crap.

Took it for a drive, and she was very *very* smokey (even turned some of the gravel on my drive black!) for a little bit (guessing all the stuff I'd loosened being burnt off), but now seems ok - car seems to hold the boost a lot better towards the top of the rev range now though.

2 days later my hands still aren't clean!

EGR valves are a hateful invention - I'm sure they help with emissions, but I can't possible believe coating the engine with crud can possibly be good long term.

I hope you didn't touch the MAF with anything. It is a very delicate bit of gold, which breaks easily.

Also, I hope you replaced the gasket on your inlet.

Also, I though you got a blanking plate for your EGR dark ages ago?

Also, you drive a derv, it will get dirty without an EGR. But the reason it is there is quite important, forget emissions, that is a by-product. It was invented to inject hot air into the engine, this warms it up faster. Far superior to running it rich. But it should only be used to warm up the engine and nothing else.

4 were completely dead, 2 not far from it. Kinda knackered my starter because I had to crank her hard to get going. Also slightly worried that I've done some damage to the gearbox as some times it refuses to engage correctly. Though the guy from Land Rover claims a service will fix that problem, so I've got it booked in for one. Fingers crossed it does sort things and I don't need a new box.
