Quote from Forbin :Well aware, however I've been having problems with getting it stable at anything over 320MHz FSB (ASUS P5B Deluxe). I'm running the latest BIOS (507) and at 333 MHz, I get rounding errors in Prime95, even with the multiplier dropped to 6x from the stock 8x, so it's clearly a motherboard problem (RAM was also underclocked).

As a matter of fact, it's MUCH more stable at 420MHz than at 350MHz (instead of errors, the system reboots itself at 350MHz as soon as I start Prime95) but at 420MHz, I still get errors in Prime95. I read on the Anandtech forums that this particular board is weird like that, it has a range between 350 and 400MHz in which it just doesn't work right. I also tried playing with the motherboard voltages but to no avail.

I'm currently running at 300MHz FSB with the stock 8x multiplier for a core clock of 2.4GHz.

if you want it stable feed it ALOT of volts.. You need about 1.45V on the cpu, 1.65 on the chipset, and the fsb termination voltage around 1.4v

That seems to make it pretty stable here.

LFS needs something like VAC that steam has.. You cheat, you think you may have gotten away with it, but a week later, bam, your account is banned.

I just built an almost identicle system to that.

every power supply from every manufacturer will have a bad batch. You cant prevent it.

Quote from P5YcHoM4N :errmmm... I recommend not getting OCZ. Yes they have a nice warrenty, but also a high failure rate, with only one PSU worth getting, when you look at its cost, you're better off just not going that direction.. and Antec are cheap trash next to PCP&C.

Also, though popular, stay away from modular. They die faster the fixed wire.

That is not true. The few PSU's you see failing are like 10 out of millions

I have an OCZ Powerstream 520W and I know alot of people with OCZ powersupplies that have never had a problem with them. OCZ is actually rated up there in their powersupplies with PC power and cooling.

Quote from wheel4hummer :LFS doesn't have alot of things that GTR2 has, but that doesn't make GTR2 any better than LFS.... Is GTR2 made by three people? I didn't think so!

I never said GTR2 was better... I don't even like the game in fact.

Quote from micha1980de :that way you wont be able to enjoy "just played" music.
don't get me wrong, but if you mean that the sounds should be rendered to get more variation(s) (pitch, speed, panning) to the sound then ok...
otherwise i don't get you point.
sounds are just played (mainly) they don't need to be "rendered" for whatever reason, except signal-degradiation.

regards

Well look at GTR2, the backfire sounds in it sounds a million times better, but there the same sound. This is because its the sounds are rendered using the sound engine in game, with EAX and all thoes special things.

I think the problem with the sound quality in LFS is that the sounds in the little backfire mod arent rendered through the game engine, they are just being played.

Quote from iNfa-ReD :If I remember right "GTR" despite being a bad racing sim (imo) the sounds, particularly of whining transmission and what, where very good. Just in case you want something to check out

the current backfire sounds in the mod are from the GTR2 demo. FYI.

Quote from Lautsprecher[NOR] :The Video Card has absolutely NOTHING to do with image quality, only performance. You get the same picture no matter what comp. your running it on if the settings are the same.

not always, you get the same general picture, but the quality can vary.

Quote from bLaCk VaMpIrE :but what helps that high range of dynamic, when your display can only show you low dynamic ranges.
i cant see any argument to include hdr in games like lfs.
it makes sense, when you hava a game, where you come from a dark room into sun light, for example. there it makes sense, but you simply dont have so high lightvalue changes on track.
my tip:
leave hdr out and put an post process effect on it, like Roadie did. (not that much, then it would be ok)
that doesnt cost much more power and you nearly and it can help making lfs looking better.

Yah, I put alot of effects on it to just show it, so people wont go "I don't see a difference"... Also I really didn't notice a performance drop, I don't think there was one.

I don't think it would look bad if it was done right...

I messed around with some post filters, HDR and Depth Of Field. I think it looks good..
