Random connection drops?

So whats up with this? I can be having a great race, look down to the left corner and notice the lag bar going up. Yet there is NO lag, everyone is still racing, and chatting, but the bar still goes up. Eventually after a few seconds you get the lost connection to server. I get this randomly, I can be playing for 5 mins and it will drop, or an hour and it drops. Sometimes it stays connected the whole time which is nice.

Now before you say its a problem with my pc or my network.. I HIGHLY doubt it is. Any other online game I play never has a connection problem at all. Not even a ping spike.

It's really odd because the cars stay on screen, you can keep racing with them. Also send a message and get an instant reply...

Not on the road cars.
Manual Clutch V. Controllers.

This has probably been discussed a million times, but oh well, this is my take on it.

I'm sure most of you have your fancy $300 G25 wheel with the clutch pedal and all, which is nice. Not everyone does though. I use my joystick, and have been since I started playing LFS YEARS ago. It worked perfectly, and I saw no reasons to buy a wheel. Of course I wouldn't mind having a G25 like mostly everyone on here. If I did I wouldn't be complaining about the clutch.

With the current patch thats changed. I am talking about the forced manual clutch and clutch heat (which is way off). With the clutch assigned to a button it is basically an on off switch. Makes getting off the line fast nearly impossible. You either get it to hot, or you bog down on the start. Both ways you end up dead last right away. The same goes for down shifting and up shifting. It is pretty much impossible to be smooth with the clutch assigned to a button.

It would be nice if you could still have the option to have the auto clutch. I see no difference having the option, but letting servers decide to force if it is enabled or disabled. Sure, the hardcore league servers would have the manual clutch, still knowing that I can join a server with the auto clutch and have a competitive fun race.

*obtains flame suit*

PS. I know the patch isn't released yet, and things can change in that time...

I haven't tried the patch yet. But I can say that a road clutch can take ALOT of abuse..

My Corrado which has a rather torqey vr6, I abuse the hell out of the clutch during an autocross. The starts mainly, ~4000 rpm launches, not dropping the clutch, but slipping it out quickly. Never once have I smelled the clutch burn. Multiple hill starts too, never gets any heat in it worth noting.

A clutch should be able to handle the torque produced by the engine and then a decent amount more w/o a problem. So when the clutch is fully released, it shouldn't slip.

BTW, this is what it takes to burn a clutch.. I imagine these were already worn hence why they slipped in the first place.

EDIT: On that note. If you really abuse it, the gear box will usually fail first (on an unsprung clutch). Sprung clutches are much more forgiving on the trans, but not as strong as an unsprung one.

LFS really needs transmission damage before clutch wear/damage. I mean launching with slick at redline on a stock trans will break it, or an axle.

I brake with my left foot on the autocross track if I just need to loose a little speed. The gas is never lifted off. If I need to downshift then I brake with the right foot so I can rev match.

Quote from wheel4hummer :I have a life you know. I just post on here when I am:
  1. Not asleep
  2. Not hanging out with friends (BTW saw simpsons movie yesterday, funny but felt like a waste to pay for something that you can see on TV! :P)
  3. Not eating (Although I do play LFS while eating sometimes)
  4. Not programming a program which automates the process of editing an avi file downloaded from google video so that it is playable in windows media player
  5. Feeling like being an e-penis, since I don't care what I say over the internet. It's not like I'll ever meet anyone on this forum (and if I do, then they will actually know me better).
  6. Not watching certain videos on the internet...Youtube, of course!

youre a douche.
