Quote from Doorman :As far as we (FinnglishRacing) are concerned, for the last 7 weeks it's been a non event. We've provided combos that are a bit out of the ordinary but there's very little interest. Apart from us and the odd European you get Americans join, do a few laps, realise that turning right is too tricky, then leave. We've got 5 more weeks to go and unless things pick up we'll drop it.

EDIT: Apologies to Americans that CAN turn right.

My problem is that no one is around as late as I'm available. I can only really get on after about 1 AM here.

Since I can't really join hosted races much right now, I've focused on getting my license up.

Unless you get put into a split where you patiently wait 20 laps to get an opening on a guy and he comes down across your nose... Or a split where someone is so afraid of the wall he will go up to it, then jump down an entire lane into someone else to avoid it... Strangely enough, the guy was an A class driver...

It seems I find much better racing in the hosted sessions rather than the official sessions. You still get your crashes and rookie mistakes, but people are far less likely to block at all costs at the beginning of the race.

Quote from MadCatX :This post is a serious candidate for the most stupid one on this forum. What the hell is with everyone bashing and laughing at women drivers? Particularly with those of you who don't have their own license yet.

Girls might panic easier and might have worse spacial awareness, but 90% of idiots I've met on streets so far were men...

I tend to lose hope on that when a woman can look directly at me while on her phone and nearly take me off my feet when she saw me walking 10 feet away in a parking lot...

I think men tend to be more aggravated and offensive, where as women seem to be more absent minded and surprised. Only seen a few instances where I can draw my opinion though.

I loved the week of late models at Lime rock Park. It was freakin' awesome. Lately I've been in the mood to practice for the Indy 500. I know it's a few months away, but when it comes to a car and track combo that I'm comfortable with, I don't like being as far behind the other drives as I am... That's kinda got me determined to head out onto the track a lot more.

I've wanted to do that for years. I have absolutely no idea how to do it though. You'd pretty much have to re-texture everything at least anyhow. Getting someone familiar with the area to help with bumps and grades in the road would probly help to.

Honestly, I only have problems with Facebook for Android app. At random points it refuses to connect. I'll switch between WiFi and 3G and only half the time it will resolve the problem. Other times it just won't let me post anything while letting me read any damn thing I want.

I was just thrown for a loop last night after watching this.

Will dimpling a car, much like a golf ball, make it travel better through the air?

All that I know of aerodynamics would tell me no. It will grossly increase drag. This is why every surface of a car built for racing is smooth right? I even thought that the matte finish on the Army NASCAR a year or two back was at a disadvantage.

These guys took it over the top though. They tested in a water tank and decided to go to full scale testing after they got better aqua dynamic results with the dimpled car.

Before the video, they tested the car's gas mileage without clay, then put nearly 900 pounds of clay on and tested again. The video pics up after they make dimples in the surface of the car and he's putting all the excess clay from the dimples back into the car to keep the weight consistent.

I want some thoughts from others. I don't think something like this could be even remotely usable in sports like F1 with all the winglets guiding the air, but could this create some of the ugliest race cars we've ever seen in NASCAR, or GT racing?

I thought all interest was lost. I found Baccano! on Hulu and had really got into it. I watched only a few of the first episodes and had to stop because work had become a bit intense. Now, when I go to watch it, it's Jap dubbed with Eng subs.

I hate watching it like this because I end up reading the screen and missing what's going on behind the subs...

Maybe I'll finish Guren Lagan or Serial Experiments Lain then. Lain really tripped me up before and I couldn't catch it ever week so I don't know much about the story line, but it looked really trippy and interesting.

I wish I could find well enough populated races to count for points as late at night (or early in the morning) as I needed. Not many like to race at 3 AM.

Simply amazing! Just seems to me like Europeans can be extremely highly skilled suicidal racers. It would be an absolute dream of mine to race like that some day.

It's too bad that today if you even bump someone and it's declared "preventable" you get penalized... Rubbin's racin' damn it.

In Team Speak I have a problem with it messing around with the direction of the communications. I like my incoming to go to my headset speaker (XBOX 360 Headset) while my outgoing goes through the mic (XBOX 360 Headset Mic). I believe that's how they're labeled.

I've got nothing else that could help.

Quote from yankman :Relevant for the state of blackout are only the Gs pulling downwards -> sucking the blood out of the head.

As stated in the report high banking and high speed are the causes.

Gs pulling sideways have afaik no effects on blackouts.

Stunt pilots are able the counter high G-forces by tense up but only for a short amount of time.

Indeed. I watched a few of the Redbull Air Races a few weeks ago and saw that they were tensing up pretty hard for some of the higher G changes. With how much they were straining, I don't think anyone of them, or any of the drivers would be able to keep that up for an entire race.

Also, IIRC, they did speak of a few drivers losing sight in one of their eyes. I'm pretty sure it's not due to lateral G's only, but could it have been the work of both lateral and vertical working together to effect the one eye before the entire brain?

Taking into account information from both videos, and personal experiences with no professional insight, it does seem that it is possible for some drivers to experience some troubles with endurance, but like you said, it does seem a tad exaggerated.

With the second vid, I can say out right, I've NEVER seen such incredible speeds at TMS before. I can only imagine the forces involved, but as you can see, it is possible for drivers to tough it out.

Just throwin' 2 pennies into the hat for ya.

I dunno. I'm not sure I'd like to see smoking bugs on my floor during the summer. Also having their wings float in a breeze every time the doors open would be annoying. I would think it would be fun as hell though to use outside!

"Quick! Blast them before they get into the building!" *poorly voiced Star Wars effect sounds"

I can only think it "cruel" because you're frying the suckers in mid air. That just sucks... It's not much different then a bug zapper though. Only one being with the laser, they don't really see it coming, and with the zapper, well... It's not my fault they can't see something wrong with oddly colored light...

While it sure as hell wouldn't hurt to indulge yourself, it is by far, NOT the best learning tool.

I have actually tried to take my sim racing experience and transfer it to real driving during my permit days. It was a pretty big failure. It pretty much only served as an aid to get comfortable with the car a little quicker. I've actually developed 2 driving styles, one for sim racing, and one for in an actual car. Even while pushing a car to it's limits, I cannot use any of my sim racing experience for it.

Absolutely nothing will beat real experience. I saw it wouldn't hurt to try though. It might help to be prepared to start from square one though.

I bought a Droid shortly after it came out.

The Android OS is quite capable. I've really not much bad to say about it. Google Maps however is a pain in my arse. I will not trust the navigation feature for quite a while as it told me to turn around 30 miles into my trip to go back to where I came from. I even checked and I DID have the correct destination. It just wanted me to go back for some stupid reason.

Also, at least around my area, the place marks are all wrong. It gave me 6 different entries for the same rental car agency at the airport...

The only other thing is that it keeps trying to launch apps that I don't want running. Why the heck does "messaging" keep popping up when I haven't used it for hours, and am not receiving any messages? Same goes for the alarm clock, calendar, and several others. I find myself using an app killer EVERY time just before I turn off the screen...

Still the best investment I've ever made even though it put me in debt for 2 months.

My Droid specific problem is the headphone jack crackling during playback. Still looking for a fix on that as that's 80% of the reason I bought it.

If the iPhone is anything like the iPod (I'm almost certain it is) In order to replace the battery, you need to send it in to have it serviced. In this event, after they receive your phone, they will send you a refurbished one, fix the phone you sent in, then give it out or sell it as refurbished.

Was interested in replacing the bat in my iPod before I broke it, so I looked it up.

I'm not exactly sure of this, but with the way Apple seems to completely seal everything off to people who don't have tools, it seems even taking off the cover might void the warranty.

Just my 2 cents. Great.... Now I need to work 2 days of over time because of posting...

I too have had 'de ja vu' dreams, but not for several years.

I've had many dreams that were incredibly vivid, especially recently for some reason. I've even had dreams so vivid that I've actually woken myself up speaking the words physically that I was speaking in the dream. After I woke up I wasn't sure if I should finish the sentence, or just leave it be...

Where are you guys going to get all of this? I thought Torrents would be the most popular way to get them, but I'm seeing every talk of other ways.

I've gone through pretty much everything at my local shop (VERY small...) and was actually thinking of getting a wifi laptop so I could go to campus and use the highspeed there (I love employee perks ). Then I could bring them here and sync it up to my desktop or just hook the laptop up to my big screen.

I would have done portable apps on a flash drive but they updated the firewall right after I got one so I can't access the internet with any other app on their computers... Different story one a system of my own.
