Quote from TysCaargh :It is not about "non-Windows" compliance. It is about bloatware like Winamp 5. I know little people that use Winamp5, because Winamp 2.8x does exactly the same with less. Play music.
If you want to be compatible with most of the audience, find a solution that is viewable with Windows Media Player. And then maybe use only freely available software and codecs. That would help the linux/bsd/etc people alot.
If there is interest, I would like to do some research.
Otherwise, I will install Winamp5

Well I'm always open to ideas, if you can find suitable streaming methods which are more incusive of everyone, then let me know, i'm new to streaming, but have done some research.

By the looks of it, it would be possible to stream in WMV, but doubt that it much use as it is even more Windows orientated. I can't see any specfic stream format that works on all media players, but if anyone can find one, remember I need the encoder and every media player has to have the decoder, also it must be able to stream good quality at less than 300k.

Blimey, all those votes for the Commentary, I was hoping not to have to do it LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. Oh well :-)

Going to put a test stream up tomorrow, just a still picture and audio, for a few hours, feedback on non windows compatability welcome.
Ok

I've just been testing VP3 and VP6 and VP6 looks much better so I might go with that.

I'll setup a test stream soon so you can test VLC and others with it and give me feedback, stay tuned!

So, back to locking out all non-windows users. Thanks.

I'm sure there must be some other OS programs that can handle the stream, try searching google.

As the majority of LFS users are running windows, and being LFS is only supported on windows what's the big deal?

Dropping the plugin makes sense, it was odd to install for people not used to doing that sort of thing, it also means anyone stumbling across OLFSLtv by accident or for the first time, wouldn't be able to simply click and watch.

Hi everyone!

Some of you may/may not now, Fireball left OLFSL, I voluntered (silly me) to take over OLFSLtv.

Here are the first details to keep you going:
  • At least one Pool streamed per weekend (usually more).
  • Hopefully more coverage, such as other events, practice sessions etc.
  • More content, being creative, hopefully some more interesting stuff too.
  • Our TV service will be available to rent at low cost for other events/leagues etc.
  • Automatic director - for times when a human director is not available, a clever system has been developed that switches cars and views automatically.
  • Back to standard Winamp NSV, no more FDD plugin required. (Those worrying about quality, please don't, I expect equal or better quallity than we had before with only Winamp required by the viewer)
Looking good

Well I did a short test last night on redline racing, and I did indeed have an auto car and camera switching tv stream. Once the new hardware is ready, a 24hour stream should be easy.

just found a good program, although it doesn't recognise the tab key, any way to swap tab in LFS?

Hi there!

I'm about to re-setup the live video and audio streaming system for OLFSL. It was previously run by guy called Fireball, but I'm giving it a try now, will be a bit different, but hopefully pretty good.

It has proven sucsessful in it's previous managed state, but I'm also looking to create a 24 hour stream, with automated camera switching.

Is there an add on, which would cycle through the camera modes, cars in a set, or specfied order, for times when it would be unattended, like when I'm in bed or at work?

Forgot to come back and finish this thread.

I traced the graphics problem down to graphics card load, whilst trying to overclock, this happens more, so obviously the strain gets to it sometimes.

The BF1 and FOX display problem, was simply the option to change the colour of the display to black in the LFS settings, moved the bars to the right and walla, the display is back. Problem is, if you make the display black, the text should change to match so you don't lose all the text.

Both problems solved anyways.

Well most wheel races don't do that...!

I've had nothing but bad luck with LFS and gamepads, to be honest, I think Windows itself has a big problem. Calibration in windows always seems to fly off with me after a while, which is crap as games consoles, even wireless ones do not need calibration, even with different makes of controller for the same machine. Pisses me off as I like using pads for games sometimes.

I think the confusion between OLFSL race hosting and server hosting has happened again. When OLFSL wants hosts, we mean people who, start, watch and control the race. We're not currently in need of servers, though the offer is appreciated.

Quote from Mike85 :They count as characters for chat, so they loose their initial function. I still say the car should go to AI mode when chatting. And the name of the player would change ("playername" + "AI controled") so that others know that he is currently chatting. The AI would be the "learnt" AI. Or it could also be semi-automatic. AI + driver control. Like, the AI would drive, but the player could take control whenever he wanted.

I think it would be nice. I also have many more ideas which I have to write down sometime

I like the idea in theory, auto pilot sounds good, but, it would be too easy to let it do the whole race after it learnt what you did for ten laps!
well

I didn't want to make it sound boring. But, hosting means a lot of watching, and that in itself, is not as easy as it sounds when you're used to racing only
yes

on that note hosting two races then driving, or a combination of both, prepare to get bored too :-)

One thing that still bothers me, is when driving with my mouse I press Chat (t) you cannot control your car anymore. Please change this so people who can drive and type with mice don't have to pit to chat. Guys with wheels can, so why not us?

Programmer wanted

Hi there.

I have a defunct chat program, which I like very much. The servers it used are well and truly dead, what I want is to change the sever path the program uses, so I can find all my old chat friends and we can use this program again.

I got a dissasembler and think I found the relavent address string, but can't see how to change it etc.

Wondered if any programmers out there could help me.

Thanks
